Notice the "lol" at the end of my statement. It denotes laughter. Commonly associated with things like sarcasm and jokes. Pull the "holier than thou" stick out pal.

And I didn't call anyone out specifically. Your post proves my point. Maybe a bit of guilty conscience or are you just mad?

Oh man... I'm starting to think that there should be no posting available in the polls... If the votes alone did all the talking it would save us from worrying too much...

No, you just posted directly after me, attempting to say something without directly saying it. I know what you were doing and so do you. That is why I called you out on it.

Sounds like you know a lot about something while not knowing anything. Tell me, what are today's lottery numbers?

That doesn't even make sense. I'm not interested in arguing with you any further. Have a wonderful day.

EDIT: I just realized the Caliornia was yours. lmao.

Come ooooon guys. Stop it now.

@bmxmitch Has the thread been closed? Deadline has expired but I haven´t seen any closing or even a poll...

I sent the top 20 a few hours ago so it shouldn't be long now 👍

The wheel looks like a Jaguar wheel and thats not Italian. What company is it?

:ouch: Ups, sorry folks. :scared:

This wasn't intented.

I took the photo some weeks ago. Unfortunately I must have mad a mistake in labeling. Of course I am disqualified then.
Please take my apologise

So this is a lesson to double-check old photos out of the repository before taking them into the contest. Lesson learnt.

I see nothing has changed around here. I find myself visiting the photomode forums less and less lately.

Since the AUP has been brought up a few times already here, I'll remind everyone that text-speak definitely is specifically mentioned there. Constructive criticisms are encouraged... content-free provoking isn't.

It's quite tempting to make the polls closed threads, stopping the expected "my shot was better" comments and arguments... but they'd just spill into other threads. Perhaps a giant "Warning: Judge's tastes may differ from your own" is needed in the OP every week?

Heres the thing. the majority of people voting aren't photographers. They just vote on "OH COOL IT"S A FERRARI" Or something else. I'm not gonna lie, that picture having 10 votes is insulting to me, like that is better than mine or the Murcie, Maserati, even the STANDARD BARCHETTA, which is brillant for a standard car.

Oh ****, shoulda voted for the RED BARCHETTA!

Rush ftw lol

oh, and I gave the Zonda my vote! The only vote for it btw.
Don´t know why noone voted for it, but I think it is a well made shot that presents the Zonda pretty good. One of the best designed italien-car and simply a BEAST! And the picture gave me exactly that feeling, nice angle on it and a great sense for the speed/power!

Btw, is the world record of the Zonda still current? 6:27 on the Nordschleife I guess?

Ah, thanks for your vote.
At least someone like it. :D
And yes, it's the current record. Unless the X2010 has smash it under sub 5 minutes.lol :P

I also agree that California shoot is no more than just a random shoots.
I sense no artistic nor realistic but hey, it's their opinion and favourite. ;)
It's surprise me it's on winning.
And i'm not flamming here, just give my thought about the shoot.

This got fun!

I personally like the California shot. It's not brilliant technically but it's got a real feel of movement about it. It's not terrible by any stretch. I never voted for it mind you, I think I went for the Delta S4.

I think a lot of the complaining comes from frustration, although I'm not making excuses for it. It can be annoying entering competitions each week and not making polls when you try to come up with a shot that's a bit different only to see lots of similar partial car shots with the cool filter on it. It's worse when people even say that your shot was good (like mine this week). I imagine it's a lot more annoying to see your shot make the poll only to be outvoted by other ones which you don't like. That's the joy of polls people, they're about multiple opinions, not just one.

I'd joined this community with such high hopes - I've got to say that I'm genuinely disappointed at how things seem to have been going in the past few weeks as it regards the contests. Ordinarily, I'd keep my opinions to myself - but seeing as how this has apparently become the acceptable forum in which to vent these thoughts, I think I'll throw in my $0.02. :irked:

First, I've been very disappointed to see the number of people complain bitterly about the fact that they didn't make a poll in a given week. It's one thing to genuinely ask for input and constructive criticism as Jamel77 did in post 41 or boozybloke in #25. That's one of the purposes of these contests - to help make us better GT photographers. What I'm talking about is the incessant whining of people who seem to think they're entitled to make the poll every week simply for submitting an entry. Having missed out on a couple of polls myself, it's just not that big a deal.

Second, it seems to be very clear that a few members of the general voting public have almost no understanding of photography, or at least what distinguishes a picture from a photograph. That's not intended to be a broad-based insult - it's just an observation of reality. After all, no one can have expertise in every field. Nevertheless, it is genuinely shocking to study the poll results and see images that were borderline in quality to begin with (i.e., if there were only 10 entries, they wouldn't have made the cut) end up with a substantial number of votes while truly quality images - ones that reflect an understanding of photographic and compositional elements languish with one or two votes.

Third, I am astounded at the tone that conversations have taken around here. From people pouting and sulking about not making a poll, or not getting enough votes, to seemingly personal accusations (I'm remaining vague in this to avoid the appearance of taking sides), it's gotten a bit ugly. Entertaining, mind you :mischievous: - but still ugly.

Fourth, I've been surprised at the not-so-subtle requests I've seen for voting in these things. Subtle attempts to promote one's image within the contest thread, or even PMs sent out to promote one's contest entry... just seems... inappropriate. This is a photo contest, not a popularity contest.

[/SOAPBOX]

Good luck to the quality entries in the poll!

Hm, PM's you say?

I'd definitely like to know about these things, because it really is a pretty sneaky attempt to ignore the rules. I've now got a nice system in place that I'm going to resort to using every day to ensure the people in the poll are voting properly too, which I didn't think I'd have to use. And it's not a Mod-only proposition; I'll be discussing it with the rest of the hosts to ensure all comps' rules are being complied with.

It's ironic to have to be so serious about something that is meant for fun, but it's the only response to people who put way, way too much weight on winning. I feel comfortable saying this on behalf of some of the veterans here; the competitions, while always great to win, have always been primarily about challenging myself each week, not about challenging others. I love Photo Mode and would be using it regardless of the competitions existing. The weekly theme just gives me a framework to work within, to focus on getting the best out of a pre-determined (to a point) package.

I look at it like this: shooting for my gallery is like heading to the Green Hell for an open track event. I can take any car, in any state of tune. Shooting for the comps is like running a Time Trial event in a stock car - I can't rely on the endless tinkering of an adjustable suspension, or a bigger turbo. It's just me and the car, and I have to get the best possible results from what I've been given.

The general tone has been disappointing the past few weeks, but hardly surprising; we had it in GT4 times too. Eventually, people learn to accept the system in place (we've always been completely up-front about it), or they move on. Even people like Moglet, Franz, Sej, Rev, and alexwrc (who still isn't up-to-date, sadly) started somewhere, and we've all missed a poll or three along the way.

I think SlipZtrEm made a very good comment there: It's all about challenging oneself.

The fun part is creating a great photo, and then see how others will surprise you with their perspective on the theme.

At first I saw this as a creative contest, but I was wrong. There's no professional judges here - this is not the Oscars. This is a contest for normal people with individual taste :)

Now I'm going to head off to the track once more - with my 35mm lens set to 1.4 ap :dopey:

Edit: Arh...I'm not a great forum writer. I always return and try to understand my own nonsense hehe. I hope it makes sense to someone ;)

Could I get some feed back on my shot please folks, what I could improve on for next time etc etc

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p316/Gee-dub-ya/GT5/AutodromoNazionaleMonza-1.jpg

I'm quite getting into the photomode side of things now as I'm running out of events to do.

I would say that there is too much forest and empty tarmac and too little speed in that particular situation. With a shutter speed of 60 it would be better. And I'm not sure what you want to tell with this photo. A great photo tells a story - either big or small ;)

Compare it with entry #13 and #28 which are in the same category. Here you get a better feeling of the car, the speed is better, and you can almost hear the roar of the Ferrari engine.

The main issue is about the composition, I think the car could be placed better in the frame, and yes for the type of photo it look a bit too much static.
I liked the light though. :)

Cool, thanks :)

There's some really nice stuff here!

Gee-dub-ya - I think you're pic is all about lead lines, the foreground focal point is the car (which seems to be an odd crop) but then the track leads the eye up to ...... nothing. If there was something up there of interest to the eye then it would have been better.

sems4arsenal - I really like that! It feels like a peek through a hole in a door and the grainy B&W really gives it an edge. The car could have done with a bit more light but as you can't position off camera flash just yet it's a bit unfair to criticise heavily on that.

Hah, I haven't bothered looking on this thread in the last couple of days, looks like I missed... well, not a lot really.

I can understand people getting a bit miffed that pictures that are perceived to be of less quality than their own get into the poll/attract more votes than others- I know I personally spent a long time and several seperate shoots getting my photo just how I wanted it, whereas some of the shots in the poll look like they took 5 minutes to grab and are a little uninspiring. Whether it's a fun competition or for a big prize, people want to get recognition for their work.

In terms of how people have reacted, well, yes it could have gone better. There are ways to conduct yourself on a forum and some people seem to have missed that point a little.

I agree with the point that people voting are not neccesarily photography experts and will vote for anything that grabs them (I suspect I have been guilty of this in the past as well) - this can either be pandered to to increase our chances of winning, or we can just go with our own style and hope it's popular.

So options do we have then? With the Photocomp picking up ever more viewers and entrants this sort of debate is going to crop up more and more so maybe a bit more discussion is needed in the discussion thread as to any changes that anyone thinks are needed.

Either way, this contest is a little like the X Factor programme- anyone can have a go, anyone can vote, and it's going to throw up some surprise results sometimes, but it's only supposed to be entertainment!
