See. This excuse has never bothered me in the slightest. I've never driven my Capri down 'twisty' 'narrow' roads. I spend most of my time dodging potholes on main roads. Everytime I hear someone say 'an American car is too big for UK B roads' my answer is always 'Barely any modern car is the right size for a B road'.

It's not about size so please don't misunderstand and it's most certainly NOT about criticising NA cars, some are outstanding but not this one! The fact is that is doesn't handle well and if that is a consideration then surely you should take it on board as a factor in your decision making.

Handling isn't a consideration for me, both cars aren't exactly going to run rings around a Lotus.

I could send you a photo of the road I live on. I've seen ploughed fields that are smoother! My sister was at uni in York, I use to love taking my bike up there, just to visit her...

It's practically the same here. There's a road near me that looks like it's been ploughed and to make it even more hilarious, our 'sensible with money' council decided it would be a wise move to put speed bumps on it!

ahahaha I feel for you, local council's looking after our roads... :ouch: Our wonderful Herefordshire council got given £2mil by gov to spend on the roads. We now have a new shopping centre and cinema. Yippee.

The worst part is that if you go over the border to Wales they have beaut roads. Smooth as butter. Luckily I can see Wales out of my window! I'm bored of working now I want to go driving.

On this basis you could get something like

Rare, ugly and impossible to get parts!

Yes, but an Alfa SZ is all of those things too, but I'd still have one!

The Pontiac has a big lazy V8, and people will look at it. Opinions on style are very much personal, and I think it looks better than the Capri. It is the less sensible choice, but thanks to taking a less sensible choice, I drive around in a 205 gti instead of a modern, safe, and comfortable BMW 3 series, and if I could pick between the two again I'd do exactly the same.

As we discussed via PM, I'd go with the Firebird.

Also, a 5.0L V8 isn't exactly what I'd call "big". In fact they are rather small in physical size with a decent amount of displacement.

Get the Capri.. In the end, the I6 sounds better than the emissions choked V8.

They sound the same as any other American V8.

You buy the bird and you get this, though likely more subtle with mufflers on it.

Hence why one Finnish guy swapped the 3.0 V6 from Granada to his 96.. pretty much bolt on project.

That is one good looking car; why is this car missing off GT6??

Right, bit of an update, I went to see another 2.8 Capri last night and took it for a drive. Felt good aside from a few mechanical niggles which will need to be sorted.

This one is a two-tone colour with a much better paint job, has a Powerflow stainless steel exhaust which sounds incredible, it's cheaper than the one I saw in Bristol and most importantly it's owned by an enthusiast. I'm now looking at getting this one instead. Should hopefully save a bit of money if I buy it. Just need to find out how much the changes/repairs will cost.

Took a trip down to a place called Four Marks near Winchester to look at a 2.8 Special. Drove it, liked it and bought it! Drove it 225 miles back home to the Greater Republic Of Yorkshireland and it never missed a beat!

It's an all original car with 70k miles on it, I am the fourth owner and there are only a few tiny issues with it such as the exhaust is blowing slightly, fuel gauge doesn't work, sunroof doesn't close properly and there are a few tiny dents and a little bit of rust bubbles.

Will spend the evenings this week swapping a few things over from the S and then prepare to sell it.

The thing has a brilliant 6 cylinder why V8 it?
I don't think they are brilliant at all. I had the exact same Cologne V6 used in this as used in a Bronco II, though carbureted, and it was the biggest piece of 🤬 I have ever owned. The vehicle wasn't that great either.

That said, this car would be WAY more fun, but he knows what he wants and him and I have had long talks over the feasibility of it. He knows, as most of you do as well, I don't like anything other anyways but this car should be plenty fun and if he fixes it quirks might increase the resale value. A V8 might increase it's appeal as well.

Well, it's a very good argument. And agree with most of it. A V8 is great.

Personaly I would turbocharge it and work on its weak spots. But hey, each one to its own and I agree a V8 improves many things.

A turbocharged V6 would be cool, but due to past experience with those engines, I wouldn't recommend it. I'd replace it with a more reliable engine first. Though I'm not sure if the injected engines are any better.

Injected fuel means fuel goes directly to the chamber improving performance and reliability. But if it brakes the engine is ruined...

Well a quick wiki search told me that Ford made a few turbo'ed MkIII Capri. And they report 155 conversion offiacialy made based on the same 2.8 Injected engine. Don't know if they are any good.

I know what it does. I don't know if that would improve reliability though.

I know they made them but I don't think they ran high boost.
