I'll be using the Capri to go to work this week so it should get some usage and hopefully it should loosen things up and give it a nice stretch before the first show on Sunday. @Katiegan keep your eyes peeled! ;)

What time do you usually set off/come home? I'll be sure to keep a look out. :P

Any chance of some wider tires to fill in the body overhang? That's one thing that drives me nuts about older cars in general.

Capris can look good with tires flush with the arches:

...but I'd embrace the retro-ness here. There's something very satisfying about the way it looks at the mo. Incidentally, I hate visiting this thread as it makes me want a Capri every time I do!

In general though it's one thing I actully quite like about older vehicles. In many situations wheels sort of took second place to the line of the body. One of my all-time favourites, the Porsche 356, has massive overhang over the wheels but it just wouldn't look right with a flush setup.

Any wheels over 8 inches wide would struggle to fit under the standard arches. So most people tend to go 8x13 with a 205/60 R13 (though I think 205/60s were stock on the 2.8i?).

Anything over that would be overkill.

On 13" wheels you can't really go much wider than what I have now unless you buy track day tyres. Although, with the way it sits now, I think anything wider would look a bit too silly.

205/60R13 was the stock tyre on the 2.8i when it was new. I've got 215/50R13 on now with a 7" wheel. The tyres did come with 8" Slot Mags which fitted under the standard arches no problem.

Didn't the Capri 280 have 15" versions of the 2.8i's 13 inchers?

They looked massive at the time. Lol.

Even flush with the arches look good. I've never been a fan of massive body overhang, especially seen on a lot of muscle cars.

Just a quick question @SVT Cobra GT - is the meet you're going to this weekend at Squires Cafe by any chance? Or are you going to a different one?

Oh, don't get me wrong, when I dug out that picture of the Capri above I was like "okay, now I want one on wider tires", but on Capris I always think the small wheels and tires and the large overhang suits them. Though I'm the same with muscle cars. I just like the old-school look, and I think I've seen so many resto-mod type cars on the internet I'm longing for a bit more originality now.

No, I was going to a classic ford one up at Leeming Lodge Services near the RAF base.

My cousin told me about the squires cafe one, apparently it's quite a big one is that right? If the weather holds up today and I might change my mind and go.

Ah, right. Yeah, the Squires one is pretty big, I think Performance Ford are covering it. I'm not going, but I know the guy who organises it.

Cool! Apparently Retro Ford are covering this one at Leeming. Classic Ford mag did it last year. Really hoping the weather holds off tomorrow

Update:

This Saturday coming (20th) I will be using the car for a wedding. I'll be driving the bride and her father to the ceremony and will be sticking around for photos, I'll take some myself and upload them.

I recently sold an expensive watch I won in a competition and I'm putting that money toward a brand new custom made stainless steel exhaust system.
It'll be fitted to the car piece by piece, it's hand welded on site and will be a 2" pipe from front to back and will have 3" tailpipes. I can also change the sound after it's fitted should I want to.
Again I will get some before and after photos.

Well this wedding has just been and gone this weekend. Managed to get a few photos myself and I'm currently awaiting the official photos from the couple. Bride was totally surprised when I turned up and she loved every minute and even said I kept her calm all the way there, the only waterworks were when her dad walked her down the aisle!

Here are a few of mine;

Then on the way home there was a church around the corner with two old buses and two Rolls Royces at another wedding and as I drove past, everyone was outside so I blasted the horn and everyone looked and cheered!

I'd keep an eye on stuff like that though, if a restoration project comes up cheap, might be worth investing. Classics are going up in price right now.
