I'll patronize the 5% if they whine and cry about it like 3-year-olds.

See this is the problem. What do the mods around here say constantly? Attack the point not the person/s.

You rabbiting on about whining members doesn't bring anything to the table.

It's a forum. The info was released today. This is the thread about the game for which the info was released today. Members post about what they have heared today, in the thread that's relevant about today's news.

@mildashers. I agree with you for what it's worth.

On a more constructive note I'd like to know how the poll by CM was conducted? I can understand the reasoning as its a cost saving measure that lots of company's are doing. Game company's are not willing to take many risks anymore.

I personaly don't mind the lack of cockpit view in GRID 2 as I only really use it for fun, GT5 is where I use it most of all my games but I race all my series from the bonnet/roof cam.

It's not essential, no, but it's a big step back and their 'market research' sounds, to my mind, like a complete and utter fabrication. I was ok with Burnout Paradise lacking cockpits, was sorely disappointed by NFS Hot Pursuit following suit, but at least they never claimed to be doing it because only 5% of the people they surveyed actually wanted cockpit view. That's just an implausibly low figure so something is definitely not on the level.

The truth is, I'm bitterly disappointed because I wanted this game to be good, I was looking forward to having another solid racing game to play because you can only run sims for so long before you just need a toy to unwind with. I could've lived without cockpits if I thought they were being honest about why they're leaving them out, so I guess I'm put off of this merely on the principle that I just don't trust Codemasters like I used to; Dirt 2 made me think 'hmm, hang on a minute, I don't like this' but I got over it. Going from TOCA to Grid was another dubious moment but again, I got over it and ended up enjoying Grid. Dirt 3's Incomplete Edition scam really knocked my confidence in them but I was willing to see where they went after that before writing them off completely, I happily ignored Dirt Showdown as a download-only digital toy... But now I feel like I'm being lied to again.

Rant over, I don't like to be 'that guy' but this is a forum for opinions and this is just mine. I promise this is the last you'll see of me in this thread as I have nothing more to add, though I'd appreciate a nudge if they do backtrack on the no cockpits thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for opinion, I do realise not everyone is going to like the same thing, but I hate it when people decide they're going to dislike a game before it even comes out, purely because one or two features are not in a game or because of what they have/haven't seen in a trailer, and have to publicly declare it (not aiming this specifically at you btw, saw a lot worse from other people in the thread). For example, the part I bolded in your quote - how can you make that assumption without actually playing the game? Maybe if you had read a review you could make that judgement, but ultimately I don't see how you can unless you've actually played the game or a demo of it.

Regardless, I agree about their mention of statistics, it probably is a dubious claim, but if the time and money they would've spent on cockpits has been spent on something else more fulfilling, i.e. more content and an overall improvement in game experience, then I'm all for it. None of us know how long it takes to model a cockpit, but the fact that in 5 years of development PD only got 200 cars' cockpits modeled properly, kind of hints that it takes a lot of time, so if that time goes towards other content and features, then we shouldn't just jump on their back as soon as they tell us the bad news. For all you know, they could have something a lot better than cockpits in the pipeline..

I also agree about the decline of Codemasters games - Dirt 3 did seem a bit empty tbh, and the DLC content wasn't exactly worth the money. Comparing to TOCA doesn't really say anything though. Today's games are generally more focused on Multiplayer - I think it's fair to say the TOCA games weren't. So Grid was always going to be different because of consumer demand.

I enjoyed the first Grid so I will at least rent this for sure. These are a good mix between sim and arcade handling. The online community usually dies very fast in these Codemasters games. After about a month it can be tough to find people to play with.

I don't care if it's not a full sim, I'll buy Assetto Corsa for that.
I loved the atmosphere in Grid, intense racing, and the team management, how cool was that, the sponsors and that stuff. As long as they keep Grid 1 concepts I'll buy the sequel.

Only 2 things I ask:

- I'm ok with semplified car physics, but PLEASE improve ffb a bit, I don't like spiky, clunky ffb, give us something smoother and stronger.

- More rear wings and front splitter please. I like cars in stock form but racing cars must be included as well.

SuperShouden is always whining about people's opinions over missing features.

Hey man, you're in my signature!
Yup that kid is very close to being in my ignore list. Which currently has 15 members. Had 16 but one of them became a mod.
On a side note I also didnt know they removed the cockpit view from Grid 2. that cant be true. Now its officially only a rental. The cockpit view was amazing in Grid. This is like turning all the cars from premium to standard. 👎

Maybe I'm the only one that feels like this, but I kinda find the cockpit view in Grid to be incredibly limiting and somewhat exadurated in size. Granted some of the cars in real life I sat in weren't purpose built race cars and I can't really comment on any of the Open top cars because they all are race cars (which I would kill to sit in ), but honestly some of those seemed much more narrow then what I experianced. Theres also the fact that trying to look out the sides is also terrible, I can't even look directly out the driver or passenger windows (something I enjoy doing in many other games Sim and Arcade). So for me, I'm not bothered by lack of cockpit view. The main thing for me is the content of the game and the physics. What I do not want is a repeat of Japan having Drifting, US have the stereotypical Muscle car street racing and only Europe having the circuits, thats one of the biggest gripes I had about the first grid. Also kinda would like to see the car list, sort've nutty about that.

Yeah a car list would be nice :).

I hope they keep the touring cars :D.

Nah, don't do that lol.

I've been bumping heads with that kid since I joined here (even on Forza Planet). It's much more entertaining this way lol.

He'll say something that is just obviously wrong but he really believes it and would scream it at you if he could lol.

He has made my signature twice now lol. Epic quotes.

Grid 2 will be awesome. If that was actual gameplay footage then it will look fantastic. Reviewers so far have only very positive things to say about it. You wouldn't know that by just reading this thread though.

I am looking forward to more info. Can't wait to get this for PC!

The only thing I ask from this game is better driving physics: Grid 1 physics felt too lazy.

Everything else was fine. :)

The only thing I liked that I saw was cars and graphics, the rest looked horrible. I hope that it isn't footage, and I don't think it is.

How much more immersive can they make it especially when they remove an immersive aspect of the game.
Maybe it will really have power ups and explosions.

Ok, fine, I can believe that 5% figure when applied to Codemasters' own games, but even that does raise questions: Do they collect this information from offline players as well as online ones? Does this include Dirt 3's gamey online modes which benefitted hugely from chase cam? Is this across all formats? How many games are included in this data? I'm willing to bet it's just Dirt 3; recording this data from as far back as Dirt 2 seems unlikely (that would be some impressive foresight, surely?) and it seems dubious that most of the people who bought F1 2011 used the chase camera. Bumper camera I can believe more, though, so maybe not.

Still, this does mean Codemasters has to better Forza 3 and 4, GT5, Shift 1 & 2 and F1 2010/11 and probably 2012 with Grid 2, as they were all pretty good looking games that drove well (well, maybe not Shift, but the other two for sure) and featured cockpits. Also when Project CARS hits the PS3 and 360 it'll be interesting to see what compromises each dev team chooses to make. I think they're overstating the issue, but I'm willing now to give them the benefit of the doubt (again! I am a sucker for cars with games in) and see what they do.

I hope cars can be destroyed in spectacular fashion then. Unlike DiRT: Showdown, which appears to have a toned down version of DiRT: 3's damage model, unusual for a game primarily about destruction...

Showdown lacked cockpits too didn't it?
Was it an immersive experience? 60FPS? Etc.

The only thing I liked that I saw was cars and graphics, the rest looked horrible. I hope that it isn't footage, and I don't think it is.

What is "the rest" though? I couldn't tell anything other than a couple of the cars and it looks amazing.

The Vette went sideways and then snapped back into going perfectly straight, that of course looked wonky but this isn't a sim.

If you're analyzing the trailer remember this is just a reveal trailer to say "Hey, Grid 2 exists..." The game is still a year from release; for comparison look at pCARS and how far in development it is... They are still obtaining licenses and use the track's city instead of its name.

I am weary of there being no Lambo, Porsche, Ferrari.... That's another disappointment. It's a shame that video games are such a business now.

I might pick this up eventually in a sale or something. I'm kinda disappointed about the lack of cockpit view but in most games like this cockpit view is mediocre (PGR 4 for example) so I probably wouldn't have used it if I couldn't see out of it properly like in GT or FM. I do hope they keep the same single player style of Grid 1 though, that was fun.

Aww damn no cockpit? Well tbh arcade style games don't really require it. Anyway this has made me pumped regardless! :D

I'm excited even if it won't have Racing cars (although I think it will),cockpit view is a let down, hope they work on the FFB with the wheels though .

Graphics look good but everything on a highend PC does so i'd expect F1 2012 level of graphics ,Grid has always been about close racing and think multiplayer will be fantastic .

an easy to master but deep enough to be fun physics engine is what the doctor ordered,Grid was never going to be a sim or close to GT,Forza level of simulation,it's a market already full of upcoming titles it wouldn't have worked

I think it's in the American layout with month/day/year instead of day/month/year ;).

I'm sorry, but why is cockpit cam a dealbreaker for so many people? I know it adds to the immersion, but all it does for me is distract and detract from the racing and the experience. No, I've never been good with them either, but I'm not that good anyway so should be no surprise.

Spagetti69, have you seen the interiors in Grid? Not only were they incredibly well done, but they also had to do the entire greenhouse due to the cabin and if you damaged the greenhouse, you can see a difference inside the car, the only broken bit was that the driver seat shifted depending on the damage.

OT: FINALLY! I don't care when it comes as long as it comes.

Personally I don't really mind about the loss of cockpit cam, bonnet cam is my choice of camera. It's the rest of the game that I don't like the look of so far, as you can tell from my previous posts I was hoping for a proper racing game like the old ToCA games but without the ultra realism/sim physics. It seems GRID 2 is not going to be that at all, it's going to be a very arcade approach to racing with it seems no proper racing series/cars and only a third of the tracks actually proper racing tracks.

There is obviously a lot more to see but based on what they've shown/said so far, it's a £10 bargain big purchase for me.
