Get to know your new head coach, University of Florida- formerly the head coach of Colorado State, Jim McElwain.

I'm rather upset with this. I live in the home of the Rams. They play across the street from my home. So, when I heard in the local sports station the other day that he said he was staying, I got excited. It was nice to see the hometown team ranked. Then he up and quits. What a two faced 🤬!

I don't really like people leaving after they say that they're staying either, but to be fair, most people would leave if they were offered one of the prime jobs (either in college football or the NFL). Bill O'Brien went to the Houston Texans after saying that he wasn't going to leave Penn State.

It would be one thing if he made no mention of staying. But he gave our small community hope to finally be put on the bigger map. You just don't do that.

If he hadn't said what he said, I would not have issue one with him leaving. A big time program is stupid to turn down. But he said what he said.

Yeah, that isn't really one of the bright things to say if you don't know if you will return. But coaching is always a carousel is usually filled with lies and other dumb head-scratching actions/statements, so as I've learned, you have to take the words of a coach with a grain of salt in certain situations.

So it was all chalk this weekend.

Oregon took down Arizona, Alabama punted Missouri, TCU ran over Iowa State, Florida State squeaked by Georgia Tech, Ohio State flattened Wisconsin.

Did you all see ESPN College Gameday earlier today and the piece on the University of Alabama-Birmingham deal? So much passion, emotion, and even anger from supporters and students. I certainly have to say this again. I am totally, undeniably, and incredibly sorry for what UAB has to go through. I totally sympathize with you all. Pretty safe to say UAB football got screwed over big time in my view.

Now on to some random musings on the day/night...

* my Houston Cougars failed at Cincinnati 38-31. The Coogs couldn't make a touchdown pass late as UH was behind all-game long despite their rally. So we finished 7-5 on the regular season.

* Stop me if you heard this before- Florida State wins again! They won 37-35 over Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship game. Anyone willing to call that Florida State will win the National Championship this season despite being incredibly vulnerable?

* TCU and Baylor both win for a share of the Big XII title. Iowa State got eviscerated 55-3 at TCU, and Baylor took down the Wildcats of Kansas State 38-27.

* Ohio State may have doggone well proven playoff-worthy with a 59-0 smashing of Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game.

* Alabama's pretty much "in" as well, spanking the Missouri Tigers 42-13 in the SEC Championship game.

* They call it Bedlam, and Oklahoma State won 38-35 at Oklahoma. However, this game couldn't be solved in regulation, so this was an Overtime match.

* Fordham's season is done after the New Hampshire Wildcats smashed the Fordham Rams 44-19.

* One of my beloved NCAA FCS teams will advance as Sam Houston State's Bearkats won 37-26 over the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. I wonder when Jacksonville State will actually make it into FBS. I know I've heard loads of rumors they'd upgrade to NCAA FBS. And if you're relatively new to college football, Jacksonville State is in Alabama... not Florida.

* A Dakota State WILL advance to the next round of the NCAA FCS playoffs. It was North Dakota State who defeated the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State. Another win for the NDSU Bison. This news certainly will make one GTPlaneteer happy.

* Here in Houston, the SWAC title was contested between Alcorn State and Southern. The Southern Jaguars were defeated by the Alcorn State Braves as the Braves picked up their first SWAC championship since 1994.

Congratulations to all other winners from today and tonight.

In less than an hour, the College Football Playoff will be complete with four selections. Alabama, Oregon, and Florida State are likely in; but who will be that fourth team? TCU? Baylor? Ohio State? There is going to be some real drama. And if you ask me, this selection may fuel the fire towards the College Football Playoff eventually getting 8 selected teams as opposed to 4.

Congratulations to who all get in this inaugural College Football Playoff.

Baylor is out. They needed help to jump up 2 spots. Either TCU or Ohio State will be the 4th team. TCU may have been hurt by Baylor's win though.

I know it was already mentioned, but here are the College Football Playoff Final Rankings:

FINAL RANKINGS:
01 - Alabama
02 - Oregon
03 - Florida State
04 - Ohio State

FIRST TWO OUT:
05 - Baylor
06 - TCU

So here are your matches:

* Oregon vs. Florida State (Rose Bowl)
* Alabama vs. Ohio State (Sugar Bowl)

And there you go. What do you think about all of this? I will say this- I love that Oregon vs. Florida State match.

I'm obviously happy with the way it turned out being a buckeye fan. I'm amazed though that the big 12 tent submit Baylor as their champion. Their own tie breaking by laws they made in may said they would go to the head to head game if a tie happened. The playoff committee said the big 12 did not do that. In the end that might have hurt them.

Really though after OSU winning 59-0 in their game I couldn't see them being kept out. No team has ever been shutout in any conference championship game ever.

I think they got it right. Its really a win for any college football fan except Baylor and TCU. These are the 4 most dominate teams in recent years in football and with Alabama vs OSU it had the two most dominate programs in the last 10 years.

This is going to be the most exciting playoffs in any sports history.

Not having TCU in is bad. I think TCU could beat any of those top 4 teams.

I also don't know if I want to cheer for OSU or that school that they're playing

Marcus Mariota vs. Melvin Gordon III vs. Amari Cooper... in a triple-threat Steel Cage Match. Okay... maybe not. These are, however, your three Heisman Trophy finalists. This week will mostly be about awards for college football players and continuation of playoff action among non-NCAA FBS schools.

Even if you think the Heisman Trophy is overrated garbage, who do you think will win this season's Heisman?

Nike made special equipment for the Playoff teams

I would not touch Gordon as an NFL player though. I vote Cooper above Mariotta though, both of whom I'd want on my team in the NFL.

Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen has left to become the HC at Oregon State. I was very surprised by this, Oregon State is definitely a step down from Wisconsin.

UNLV has hired Bishop Gorman HS head coach Tony Sanchez as their new coach. It will be interesting to see what happens there. I know that Bishop Gorman is one of the better high school programs in the nation. but it is very different than at the FBS level. Also he only has 1 year of college coaching as a Graduate Assistant at New Mexico State.

I hope the Ducks **** on FSU. FSU has too many unconvincing wins.

...and your 2014 Heisman trophy winner is...

Marcus Mariota!

The Oregon QB beat out (in order) Melvin Gordon III of Wisconsin and Amari Cooper of Alabama. All congratulations to Mariota. Oregon will set it off against Florida State in their College Football Playoff match. So we'll have last season's Heisman winner vs. this season's Heisman winner.

Elsewhere...

* Navy beat Army... again. It was 17-10 in favor of the AAC-bound Midshipmen with the game played in Baltimore. So Army is once again Navy's b:censored:es in football. But really, both Army and Navy are both winners as they do all they can to defend this great nation at home and abroad.

That's all. Thanks for reading.

Enjoy the college football Bowl season! :). Good luck to all of your teams if they are in the postseason.

Jameis Winston was cleared of any allegations in his student conduct case. And so, he'll be under center for Florida State during the College Football Playoff pending some injury or something before their match against Oregon.

Florida State has been pretty fortunate (let's be honest) in a lot of games. I do agree with Omnis in that Florida State doesn't really have convincing wins. Or at least... in terms of not hammering teams' brains in. But one way or another, they still manage to win.

Florida State = 2014 NCAA FBS National Champions. Anyone willing to call that right now? I'm not saying they'll actually be champions once the College Football Playofff is complete, but I'm just asking if any of you would call this right now about Florida State this season. But again, is anyone willing to call right now that Florida State will win it all this season?

Nope. You'd be foolish to call it with 2 games left and playing their hardest competition by far over the next two games.

I want Oregon or FSU to win because I bet my buddy $20 one of those 2 would win at the beginning of the season

re: The Miami Beach Bowl

I was playing Ultra Street Fighter IV on my PS3 and EA Sports NCAA Football '15 broke out. :dopey:

Seriously, did you see the brawl that happened at the end of the game between Memphis and BYU?

Colorado State, meet Mike Bobo. Get to know him because he'll be your new head coach for your fine football team. He was the offensive coordinator of the University of Georgia.

As for the BYU vs. Memphis brawl in Miami, sad seeing a religious school like Brigham Young University seriously sin by trying to beat up Memphis. Memphis won 55-48 in Double Overtime. That was an ugly brawl from what I saw. Ironically, there was a brawl worse than that... in the same city. You all may know what I mean- that brawl back in the mid-2000s between Miami and Florida International. Congratulations to Memphis on the win, but I think we can call the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl as the "Miami Beach Brawl."

My father made me a Seminole fan back in the 70's when he started taking me to games. The only reason I say that is to let you know Im not a Fair Weather fan and have jumped on the band wagon.

I have not felt good about a single game we have played this year...They have made me pull my hair out, scream at the TV...and even kick our cat....(which the wife didnt like). But they do pull it out in the end some how..Winston is a great competetor...and I think it shows with his team when he is out there on the feild...BUT a win is a win...What Im afraid of is the College Football will become a "run the score up as much as we can" just so you can get points...Now the College Football that remember that was called "unsportsman like conduct"..I have faith in my team and we will win it all..........in the last 30 sec of the game..=(

Also I have Winston staying another year......that is what I call
