Colorado Shooting January 5th 2013

I grew up in Aurora. It used to be a nice city, but the past decade it has been plagued by gang violence, drug cartel presence, high violent crime, among other things. Unfortunately, Aurora is no stranger to shootings and I guarantee that this story wouldn't have made the world news if it weren't for the Newtown Connecticut shooting. Maybe it would have made U.S. National news, maybe, but this sort of shooting is relatively common for Aurora. For example, two days before this shooting a man killed his girlfriend, her friends, and himself and that barely made the local news - I saw one station report it. Very unfortunate, yes... Very sad.

This most likely has nothing to do with the Aurora shooting and is nothing similar. This is more likely some sort of domestic violence, gang-related, or drug-related. The aurora movie theater shooting was a person who attacked completely innocent and unrelated individuals for no reason other than to kill people.

Wasn't it just two weeks ago that there were bodies being found in dumpsters? You can't turn on the news without hearing about something violent happening in Aurora. I grew up there. Have quite a few memories of a decent Aurora. Including many a good times at the Aurora Century movie theater. My father, sister, and her family all still live in the heart of Aurora. Although I haven't talked to my family in years, I still check the paper every day just to see if they have been caught in the crossfire.
