GT Sport has a better campaign at this point than GT7 has. I didn't even know it had a campaign until I heard about it on the forum.

So, I installed the game, (I got it bundled with my PS4 Pro, just never actually played it for more than 5 minutes).

It feels much more what I imagine Gran Turismo to be, than GT7 is at this point.
The prices of cars is actually reasonable for the firm favorites. For example R33 for 60k credits, MKIII supra for 20K, I feel like I'm playing GT now in earnest. Just completed Sunday cup in it, which had 9 races (half of GT7 at this point basically).

Two things surprised me about it the most, first how different the physics are. I was honestly struggling with driving most cars in GT7, everything felt like driving on ice. In sport you can actually feel grip, and tons of it, it was glorious, no more nursing the accelerator fearful of snap oversteer in everything but the purpose built GT race cars. I could drive aggressively in it and it felt great.

The other thing being how much of it carried over to GT7, this really opened my eyes to the fact that GT7 is not really a brand new game, but a touched up version of Sport. The HUD and many UI elements are basically the same.

But of course there are some downsides too. One is that there is no proper tune menu, you basically level up your car and tune it by adjusting a slider, that's it. Two being the graphics, which looks significantly uglier on the PS4 Pro, I'd imagine the difference even more glaring on the PS5.

Either way, I actually enjoyed my stint with Sport's campaign mode, and now I Have zero desire to go back to GT7, I think I'll just continue playing the campaign in GT Sport for now.

The GT Sport AI is dreadful though, in the career. So it’s hard to enjoy. There’s loads of races though, and you earn a fortune playing through them.

However, create a custom race with a grid start and AI on professional difficulty, and it’s an absolute joy.
If you’re mad enough you can set up a 24-hour race for quite a few million credits and a TON of XP (I’ve seen as high as 29,000xp for a win, plus 3.6m credits).

I was also shocked jumping from GT Sport where RWD cars actually drive and behave similarly to real life to GT7 where they suddenly became snap-oversteer death traps on all but the smallest of slip angles.
Not realistic at all, but I think what they did was they handicapped the amount of grip the stock cars have to make the differences when you tune them more apparent to the average player.
Putting a full race suspension on the car and a wing and a custom LSD does alleviate some of the poor handling, but it's still off the mark for the RWD cars.

Ironically, FWD and AWD cars drive MUCH nicer and more like their respective real-life counterparts, for example the R-35 GT-R is much more accurate now, especially when performing a AWD drift.

As someone who spent many many hours in Sport, Got to A,S and almost every car in the game it's still a fantastic game. The only criticisms I'd dock points for were already brought up. Bad AI in career mode and no real performance parts.

GT Sport would still be an excellent introduction for someone to the series for alot less money than GT7 too. I pray desperately that GT7 is fixed very soon. It would be quite funny to see everyone go back to playing GTS.

GT6 Spec II mod adds some nice things to GT6 too if you still have a PS3 and are willing to mod it. (Wish I still had mine for that reason)

Good post. Although I do mostly prefer the physics in 7 to Sport, I do agree that they missed the mark on RWD road cars.

Good post.
