Conceptions/Misconceptions Over Cars

Well, don't play Chicken with someone in a Peterbilt!

Besides, the top speed of a Midget is 75 MPH, which is 5 MPH below the "minimum" speed that people drive on I-40.

I just used it as an example. I just flat out don't feel safe in a compact.

Have you ever seen virtually any roadcar vs a semi?

Indeed.

We have a lot of accidents over here on the highway. Decrepit old secondhand Japanese buses and trucks, converted to left-hand drive with torches and chewing gum, running on bald tires and brakes that work only on Saturdays between 4pm to 5pm.

Lots of people have died. Many of them in SUVs.

Many people around here drive tiny cars and even motorcycles, at highway speed (50-70 mph) beside these rolling demolition derbies.

Doesn't faze us in the slightest. ;)

If, by "faster," they mean "Understeer into the weeds much sooner"...

Anyone who says everything is better with a manual has never driven a Mog...

I've driven something like two to three hundred different cars over the past several years. I can only recall half a dozen manual transmissions that I would actually consider lovely. There have been a lot of clunky, rubber forgettable ones. And there have been dozens that were so bad I would have rather has my left leg amputated than to have kept driving them.

The best manual is still better than the best automatic in terms of driving pleasure. But the best automatics are now as good as a good manual.

And on some cars, a three pedal manual is completely pointless. High powered trucks, luxury saloons, vans, racing cars... :D

If you don't mind me asking...

What are those other levers?

Narrow-minded views.

My annoyance is based on people hating on a group of cars for bull**** reasons. We don't have to like all cars (and I certainly don't like all cars), but the ones who hate on muscle cars, or JDM, or EDM, and the like for the aforementioned bull**** reasons are quite irritating (you know who you are)

Yet you hate pick-up trucks. You said something like 'they have small penises' somewhere else on GTP. So, the smaller the car the bigger the penis ? And the people with medium sized cars/suv's have a medium size penis ? And what if it was a female driving the truck ? Which of her body part's would you say is/are small ? ... The people that have a problem with big truck's/suv's (including you), are either afraid that the people driving them might not be good driver's and tend to be more dangerous than smaller cars obviously, or they scare you when driving along them ? That's your problem not theirs. :D

I'm not even going to pretend I know what all that means. The bottom one is obviously the differential locks (the big horizontal lever at the top of the picture... the picture is oriented upside down compared to the diagram), and the one labeled H and L and the other one labelled with the Snail and Turtle, they're obviously for selecting lower gear ranges, while the main stick (big pistol grip) is the gear selector.

Haven't the foggiest what the other two levers do.

Sounds like hard work in some specific situations...

I have no idea why people hate on the ricer base car Honda Civic so much......

Mostly it's because most of the Civics we see on the road are usually the ones that are abnormally modified.

I think the 2 levers you are missing are the drive reverse lever (the one with the arrows) Unimogs come with more than 1 gear for reverse, and the lever on the left of the picture is probably for engaging auxiliary systems, like a pump or something.

It's not so complex as it looks. It's a six speed, with a lever for forward/reverse, a 4WD lever that also controls differential locks, and a lever to engage the crawling gear. And the parking brake. The one that confused me was "PTO" -- it's a lever to engage power take-off, which is the one for auxiliary systems as Dennisch said.

No you're right @Dennisch post makes it seem more simple, I'm just going to joke about it either way.

If anything, it's just confirmation bias. You're so used to seeing regular Civics that you forget their existence seconds after they leave your field of view. If you've told yourself that 'riced' Civics are common, you're gonna be looking for them on the road (whether you're aware of it or not), and are more likely to remember it as something that proved your hypothesis.

Honda has built and sold more than 16 million Civics. There is no way most of the Civics anyone sees on the road are abnormally modified.
Well i have yet to see an "abnormally modified" Civic around my town.. *sighs of relief*

But seriously, these ricers are giving the Honda Civic a bad name.

9 out of 10 people who drive a big-ass truck and they don't use them for work are usually the "'Merica 🤬 yeah" types that do somewhat fi t the stereotypes that you hear about. I think they are like that because of their inadequacy.

So, the smaller the car the bigger the penis?

Why do you think I drive a Kia Spectra? :sly:

Source please.

I always thought people bought cars or trucks because of personal preference. It seems to be other people who continually reference their junk.

You live in Kentucky, I live in Tennessee, just go outside and see for yourself.

99.9% of all buyers of brand new cars buy more car with more power than they will ever realistically need.

That's why, after a brief fling with high sales growth during the Carpocalypse, the Honda Fit saw sales drop once people got used to $100 a barrel oil. Because it's too small and too slow, despite being quicker than a CR-V and bigger inside than most sedans.

Then there are Mirage and Geo Metro buyers. Whose owners have testicles the size of watermelons.

And 9 out of 10 people who drive sports or supercars don't use them for sporty driving/racing. What you say about "inadequacy" is true in any type of car, not just pickups. Hate the person, not what they drive. Driver's can be stupid, cars can't.

Hope this isn't your Spectra.
