Conservatism

This is the way Trumpers apparently view their supreme leader - a sort of slim, virile all-American superhero, fighting for The People against an overwhelming array of opponents ... which, notably, includes "Rinos" ie. anyone who doesn't worship Trump.

Branco’s are weirdly “tame” compared to Ben “label everything” Garrison.

I see what you mean. 🙄

They remind me of 18th century political cartoons, which were often absolutely brutal. It's reached a desperate state in the US when a third of the Americans apparently actually believe the image of Trump in the Branco cartoon.

I was going to post this in the transgender thread but the simple fact is that this isn't a transgender issue...it's a conservative issue.
..."Rinos" ie. anyone who doesn't worship Trump.
Ehhhhh...I think of a RINO as any Republican who isn't perceived by the contemporary right to tip heavily into the culture war. The other pejorative bandied about by the contemporary right to describe them is "cuckservative," combining conservative with the cuckold, or one whose partner is driven to another due to sexual dissatisfaction. Mind you this isn't a firm rebuke of your description because those who use these terms for the opposition within the Republican party certainly lift Trump up as their god-king.

One thing I notice about that piece by Branco is how unflattering the crotch is. His depiction of the mother****er is like that of a ****ing Ken doll.

Well, after last night it's official: conservatism in the USA - as it was understood for the last 70 or 80 years - is dead, subsumed and then spat out by the dark, roiling impulses of authoritarianism & regression. First, libertarian free-market conservatism succumbed and then national security/corprate conservatism. All that's left is social conservatism: hatred of progressive values. And it's all weirdly bound up in the unlikely figure of Donald J. Trump - admittedly a regressive bigot - but someone who, at the end of the day, really cares about nothing but himself.

Mostly irrelevant to the thread but not quite true...not always anyway. It's usually either willing participation by the male partner in being humiliated by a 'bull', or on the other end of the spectrum someone who simply enjoys watching their partner with another, without any humiliation strings attached :) it's a version of the former that conservatives have in their head when they use the term, and probably secretly harbour these desires themselves...

Just listened to "Fresh Air" on NPR with New York Times magazine writer, Robert Draper, talking to Terry Gross about the Republican party in Arizona.

As the GOP moves dramatically to the Right - well I'm not even sure "to the Right" is an accurate description for the Trump delusion, but in any case, the GOP primaries are going heavily in favour of Trumpists and "election deniers - the real question is, will the American electorate vote for these extremist candidates in the general election? The future of American democracy seems to be teetering in the balance.

Again, this isn't so much a transgender issue as it is a conservative issue.

I understand one may be inclined to throw a bitchfit because I've called it a conservative issue and it may not correspond to what one thinks conservatism is, and I'm okay with that.

Performative?

[EDIT] Actually, having read the article it's just clickbait with little of substance. Only a few conservatives drew the false equivalence and their comments were largely ignored. Sorry... I'll try to do better next time.

Modern American conservatism is mental illness and Jess here is kind of a bitch.
What if you told them that the situation is similar in Britain?

America's Founding Fathers according to Jesse:

"Freedom, as we here in America recognize it, is freedom for a select few. That select few of course cannot include non-persons such as [black people], women, and the poor. If property is allowed to vote, our inherent and divine superiority shall become unclear and unrecognized. We are forced to submit that if our women, slaves, and poor are allowed to vote that we shall have no semblance of freedom of any kind. For what is freedom if not the ability to subjugate sentient beings into servitude of their betters? What does freedom mean if not the lack of freedom for lesser people? Freedom requires a lack of freedom, this is unquestionably clear and understandable.

For that very reason, the reason of our concern for preservation of freedom, we call for the immediate return to the rule of the King George. For the freedom of a king to impose his wishes upon us is much more to our liking than equality with others. It is just and natural for men to serve and submit to a tyrant. If we can cannot be tyrants ourselves, we would welcome a tyrant to rule over us."

...or somesuch... what a patriot.

Lol, I wonder if Tate knows the US right wing media is just going to whore him out for "outrage porn" content & then dump him in a week. It's almost fitting for someone like Tate who talks about using women as as objects to throw away if they don't submit.

You mean they're doing a Rittenhouse on him? Kind of appropriate I guess as I'm not sure Kyle was the model of a law abiding citizen either no matter what the judge said.

The last 18 years of Tucker Carlson's life is just one big cope after being humiliated by Jon Stewart on Crossfire.
Yeah, but that's a bit like saying the last 18 years of Trump's life have been one big embarrassment ... and yet he was elected President of the United States. I'm not too comforted by the fact that these people act like a horse's ass. They've dragged down the entire country - not to say the entire world - to their horrible level. :yuck:

Edit: Modern American conservatism is mental illness.
