Ferrari 348 Early Study (1980) P

Notice that this car was designed 9 years before 348 existed and 4 years before the Testarossa. It shares the design slight similar to the 70's Ferrari's with its sharper and angular bumpers.

Now this design resembles a mixture of the F40 blend in with the Testarossa.

^ I like that design better than the real F40. I've always thought the front of the original F40 is a mess.

1979 Volvo Tundra Concept by Bertone. Based on a Volvo 343. V6 instead of a 4 cylinder. Rwd.

Familiar looks?
Yup. Where Volvo said nö to Bertone, Citroën said yes and the BX was born.

Meh. Citroen actually built weirder things than that anyway.

Wait... Volvo?

Bizzarrini had the gorgeous 5300, sure, but I didn't know about this:

There's also a few results from the Zagato and Nissan partnership in the late 80's that aren't completely awful. I like the Bambu: there's more than a hint of the Alfa SZ in it:

Was aware of this but Top Gear's site brought it back to my attention, the ludicrously awesome Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Shooting Brake:

More here
That reminds me quite a bit of the Firebird Wagons Pontiac toyed with for a while.

EDIT: These Firebirds were dubbed "Type K", or Kammback. Chevy even had their own prototype for the Camaro. Interestingly, Pininfarina would have constructed these Type Ks had the projected price not far exceeded what a normal T/A would have cost back in the late 70s. That, and the whole plethora of problems that caught up with GM in the 80s prevented Pontiac from pursuing the Type K project any further.
