See from what I hear from people in NY is that they like the retro stuff because it takes them back, they say they look just like the old ones which is why they like them. Even kids love it.

To me, American muscle should be able to intimidate you just by looking at it. It's like a 1-up thing over imports.

looking intimidating and being intimidating are 2 different things challangers and maros not real intimidating mustangs and vetts different story. its personal opinion though plus just alot people with egos wanting to relish and relive the old days. I love modern retro but at some point you have to move on and be a little daring and inovative. That being said my fav cars are mustangs vetts,STis and 350 zs

I wouldn't mind if it didn't look too different from the C6. The Corvette is nice looking. Porsche has gotten away with it forever and the 911 doesn't even look that great (bar 996).

That however would kill the C7 for me forever, and I'd basically be waiting for the C8 before I could like the Corvette again. Retro must die.

If "Retro must die" then way would you want them to stay with the same look they had for the last 40 years, cause would make it have a retro look to it.

Well, I'll say this; there has never been a bad looking corvette. Sure, each generation has been more or less a caricature of it's time, but they all look good. I have no doubt this new one will continue the trend.

I have no doubt it will perform good, but (based on the looks of cars currently made in America) I really hope they don't ruin the design.

Keeping the basic shape isn't being retro. Retro is trying to make a modern car look like it came from 1970, which to me, just does not work . Just about the only retro car I give a full pass to is the Ford GT, and really that's just because the GT40 had a rather modern and aerodynamic shape anyway. I also found the more modern head/tail lamps and details on the GT more appealing.

There is huge gap in terms of styling between the old muscle car days and 90's-now sports cars. I think the latter look better and at the same time their shape is better for performance.

There has been nothing remotely retro about any Corvette sold in the past 30 years. Sharing a basic shape and certain design details (many of them put in place for practical reasons) is not "retro."

Retro look is a style that is more then 15-20 years old. Right?

So then what is the different from this .....

1st gen. Camaro

5th gen

It looks like the old one but has a more modern and aggressive look

C4 Vette

How does the Camaro have a retro look but the Vette doesn't?

No, it's going back to an old style instead of evolving the current style or being original. The Corvette is not retro at all. The Camaro isn't too bad as far as retro goes, but it clearly borrows from the old car. The Corvette has just been an evolution, keeping the basic shape but creating new details every time.

they share the same basic shape in the vettes case that ant reetro the vett stopped being a muslce car along time ago

Being retro is taking an old style that has been gone for a period of time, and using that idea mixed with modern styling (sharper angles, meaner grill, lower body, square lights, etc)

The corvette isn't retro. It's just the old one that has been changed over and over, with no difference in the middle.

It would be cool to see a modern version of the C3. The styling of it just lends itself for it.

I was never a big fan of the 68-82 design, but this model is gorgeous:

Doesn't look like they're emulating it, though.

Because between the 1984 Corvette and the 2006 Corvette there was this:

And this:

Which makes the model evolution over the years exactly that: An evolution. Taking design features and adapting them to be modern in their presentation isn't retro.

The (considerably longer) period between the first generation Camaro and the current one had this:

And this:

Before returning back to a design that deliberately evokes the original (though I would say that, far better than the Mustang or Challenger, the Camaro at least straddles the line of retro and modern reasonably well) rather than one that follows where the 4th Generation car left off like the line had since 1970 (and like the Corvette did).

1970.5 split bumper camaro=best design ever

However, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the modern camaro went of the 1969 model. Maybe a 6th gen could incorporate some of the early 70s design :)

Good god, I hope not. Besides the late 60s car and the new one, every iteration of the Camaro has been gloriously ugly. The whole lot of them, from 2nd gen to Catfish, are some of the most horrid designs to ever grace an American street.

In my opinion the early second gen cars are better then the first gen.

You're just mad because Bernanke doesn't have nearly enough hair to rock a mullet.

I rather like the 80's design, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Past '71 they got progressively worse, improved for the 80s (IMHO), then became ghastly for the 90s. The new one's okay, though.

Oh sweet lord, they better not do any form of retro on the Corvette. The same general shape makes sense because that's how you know what it is, same as a 911, but the Corvette is actually starting to be relevant on a world stage. It's need to be modern looking with a few really good engine choices and lightweight materials.

It's going to be hard to top the new Viper though, that thing is both mean looking and has some serious performance to back it up.

All of that depends on what GM wants to do with the new Corvette. If they're going to make it lighter, and put in an equally-strong, but smaller displacement engine, they're catering to an entirely different market. I'm personally seeing GM wanting to make this a global car that sets itself up as a benchmark, much like the Porsche 911. They'll do a ZR1 successor, but I don't know if it'll be anywhere near as crazy.

I actually like the mid to late '70s 'Vettes. Particularly the 1976 Stingray. I just love how the taillights are positioned on it. Absolute favorite body style for the 'Vette except 1984.
