Because you bought into the used market. No offense, but that's such a vast market that allows for buyers of any category & is perfect for the enthusiasts to grab their affordable dream cars.

I'm pretty sure Joey is referring to new cars where GM controls how the Corvette is marketed towards potential buyers.

Very true. The used car market just has a plethora of great car's you can buy for a fraction of the price you would pay for a brand new vehicle. Of course, nothing beats a brand new car with a warranty and knowing your owner number 1!

Yes it was, considering my original point had nothing to do with the price of the car but rather the market that bought it. I stated GM needed to attract a more diverse buyer group to the car by making the Corvette modern instead of becoming retro and selling out to tradition. I also stated I believed the Corvette could already compete with the leading performance cars currently and with modernization it could easily best them.

If you guys want to live in some fantasy world were people but expensive, luxury goods when they're on a budget, have at it. I'd really like to actually discuss what GM should be doing to make sure their car is better than the competition, mainly the 911 and GTR, and show the world it isn't just a car bought mainly by middle aged, American men.

And people were reply to your comments on the market. You said:

And who spends $60k on a sports car if you're on a budget anyways?

My point was if you're buying a $60k sports car you're probably not too concerned with the cost of ownership.

And if you're buying a new Corvette, or any new sports car for that matter, you're not on a budget. People on budgets by used Toyota Corollas.

They said: Sports car buyers don't have infinite money. They can very easily be affected by the $30-50 K price difference between a Corvette and 911. How on earth do you figure that being able to afford a $60,000 car means you're beyond caring about money? Does being able to afford a Corvette mean a Ferrari 458 is automatically in reach? Or a Veyron? Or a private jet?

And the price probably matters a lot when it comes to expanding the demogrpahic. I can much more easily afford a Corvette than some of its more expensive competitors, and despite not fitting your idea of a Corvette owner, it's not a car I'd easily pass up (if only it weren't for the Viper, new or used, that I'd rather have).

I was hoping more along the lines of this.

the Rossi Sixtysix

It looks okay, but I'd prefer to see something original. What's great about the thing you pictured is that there's always going to be a company out there who can build something like that. James Glickenhaus wanted a modern day Ferrari P4, so had one built. Best of both worlds: Ferrari makes forward-thinking vehicles like the Enzo, but there are people out there making retro stuff too.

I'd rather the big manufacturers stuck to doing something original and pushing forward, rather than looking back. "Retro" is just an excuse for not coming up with new ideas.

I can agree with that (surprise surprise). It also reminds me of one the things I dislike about Covettes, they still have airdam under the front of the car, even on higher end models. I don't think those things belong on anything that's a sports car. The should just rely on splitter for downforce, maybe small diffusers in front of the front wheels, and cover the bottom of the engine bay. Add more cooling vents on top if need be, but give it an underside that belongs on a sports/supercar. Then maybe as an option, they can provide a full length undertray with a functional diffuser.

I'm not sure how you're getting that out of what I'm saying. The point is people with disposable income buy expensive luxury goods, not people on budgets. I've never once said these people don't care about their money, all I said was if you're buying an expensive car you probably aren't that worried about the cost of ownership. If you were worried you wouldn't be buying a sports car in the first place.

I think you're trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill here. I guess it wouldn't be GTP without someone trying to make a big deal about semantics.

OK, but that disposable income is limited right? So someone can have $80,000 disposable, but not $150,000, right? Having 80K to spend freely inherently leads to an 80K budget. People who buy houses typically have a budget, and houses can be quite expensive. Much more expensive than cars.

I'm not making a mountain out of anything, but it seems crazy that you'd think that being able to buy a Corvette means you can buy anything above it in price just as easily.

I am in no way suggesting that being able to buy a Corvette means you can buy anything. I'm done with this though, it's clear you're just looking for an argument that isn't there.

This struck me as a little blind to reality. Why, because you can afford a $60k car, imply that you don't care about the cost of ownership? It certainly doesn't imply that you don't have a budget, it simply means that your budget allows you to afford a $60k sports car. In this case, it might have to be a brand new one with a warranty, as apposed to a late model Ferrari that will require half its value in repairs over the next couple of years.

I see this all the time, and it really is laughable. Just because someone isn't living paycheck to paycheck doesn't mean that they have all the free money in the world. The Corvette is not an inexpensive car, but it's also not an outrageously expensive car. It's affordable to people who are well off or know how to stretch a budget thin.

On top of that, why does everyone hate on the vette for having an image of old men driving them? First off, I think it's a little unfair to all the middle aged women I see driving Corvettes, and second, it ignores the reality that pretty much all cars that cost as much or more are driven by that demographic. Why? Because they're mostly the only ones that can reasonably afford to. I know it's complicated, but price and wealth are significant factors when choosing ones method of transportation.

I am pretty sure that is the Toyko track in GT5. Notice the gran-turismo banner?
And that that picture is animated?

Odd thing is that I don't remember the pic yet I posted in that thread :boggled:

Car and Driver will be pleased!

I myself am not a big fan of the concept, it seems too fiddly and angular. The Corvette as historically had a few edges, but also had a lot of curves. This concept is all edges. I suppose this is the same corporation that produced 'art and science', though..

I think it's about the same size. It's just parked beside a porker of a Camaro that makes it look small. I've parked my C6 beside a Camaro and it's funny how "fat" the Camaro looks. On the other hand, I'm liking that steering wheel! It doesn't look like a Cobalt's steering wheel!

Point in case, a C6 next to a Camaro.

And for the LOL, here's a Camaro with a C4!

Wow, look at that C4 pic. Camaros are pigs. You would think the way people drive them that they were the fastest thing around. I constantly have retards trying to race me in them. Usually powered by the V6.

All new cars are gigantic. I have trouble finding mine in a parking lot because I can't see around everything else.

Girth doesnt equal beefy. The 60s Cameros looked like muscle cars, the new ones look like a lot of that muscle has turned to fat, like an aging body builder.

^ You have a C6???????????????????????

and yes, those new Camaros are huuuge. lol
Ya, got a used one for a great price about 2 months ago.

So true. Everyone I've come across that owns one thinks it's the best and fastest thing out there. Must be that Michael Bay thing........
