Could Driveclubs' trouble be the source of GT6's content delays?

Driveclub sure has been in the news as of late with yet more problems being announced today. It seems the director has left the studio and Driveclub has gone "back to the drawing board".

The PS4 needs a driving game ASAP to fill the genre void. My guess is Kaz got the call to get something, anything up stat! With not enough resources to multi-task PD is not able to support 6 and prep 7 simultaneously.

Just my two cents.

That is certainly possible, I am sure Sony is dying to get a driving game on PS4 because those contemplating a next gen purchase and wanting a driving game have only one choice for now. I am not sure how many sales they can expect if they leave 6 hanging though, I certainly won't be buying 7 if they don't come through on 6.

We know Project CARS and The Crew is coming to PS4. I also think we won't wait long to se some games coming from Codemasters (DIRT4 and F1 2014?).Some speculated that maybe we will see the return of TOCA.
The console is still young. Racing games will come soon. Ok maybe not so soon. Beside PS4 have allready some really good games.

I'd like to think if PD did help Driveclub that they could share assets. Perhaps some cars like the Agera could come to GT and select Premium cars could come to Driveclub.
If the studios work together, they could produce a lot more cars and tracks and get more licenses.
Perhaps Driveclub could be Sony's equivalent to Forza Horizon (but better).
After all Kaz did promise us a DriversClub

In my opinion there is no connection whatsoever. In fact, just today we heard from SCEE that DriveClub has made "spectacular progress" and a release date will be shared in a few weeks. That is not a game that has gone back to the drawing board.

Would you have asked this question if we had not of heard of the lay-offs in Evolution Studios, amongst others, or is this based purely on the delay?

A PS3 to PS4 deal like they did with the early launch games could satisfy some GT6 customers. PD defiantly needs to work on its current PR.
But what if its an unfinished gt6 ps3 to an unfinished gt6 ps4 deal? people would be crazy to buy into it, They need to sort out current customers before they rip off and dupe new ones,

MotoGP is coming out in the summer, Not quite a driving game though, Would be great if Milestone decided to make a racing sim (other than WRC) on the ps4 as they seam to be going from strength to strength

@GTPorsche,

If you own a copy of GT6, here's a code for a digital GT7P. Not what you suggested. C'mon man, that'd be like having Porsches in GT. Smh.

Okay,

I'm suggesting that PD is speeding up GT7 (P?) production to get "a" driving game on the 4. Not that they are working with another studio or anything else you guys want to come up with. More employes working on one project simply means less working on another.

Satisfy? I'd really rather they fix/complete the game they sold me before they try to sell me on the same game with some tarted up graphics requiring a new system. A code for a digital copy of GT7P still wouldn't help me any, as I'd still have an incomplete/abandoned GT6.

Not directed at you specifically, more an aside; it's almost always unintentionally funny when people accidentally swap defiantly with definitely :P

No need to double-post, there's the Edit button - I've merged your most recent ones 👍

Sorry about the double. I got an alert mid post and thought someone posted something.

As for defiantly v. definitely I blame my laziness to trust iOS autocorrect when I'm typing too fast. Boy is my face red.

Well I mean.. this was the first result when I googled Drive Club since I hadn't heard about the director leaving (I presume that super enthusiastic guy from E3? really stopped paying attention when I found out it was just another closed circuit arcade game)

"Despite losing its game director and layoffs at developer Evolution Studios, PlayStation 4 racing game Driveclub is making "spectacular progress," Sony has confirmed. "

So.. at a guess..? No.

We'll just have to wait until Drive Club comes out and see in the credits whether or not PD helped in development. Besides, the PS4 is very easy to develop for so I could see PD lending some employees to help complete the game.

If PD is switching resources to GT7 because Sony needs a racing game for PS4, then that could be an explanation.

But that would make me no less disappointed in the lack of content and support for GT6. Everyone payed for a game that would be given strong and continued monthly (at the minimum) support for a significant portion of it's lifetime, and as of yet, we haven't really received it - and nor peep from PD as to why.

The comment about #Driveclub "Going back to the drawing board" was stated a long time ago, which was about a situation that was months before that statement itself.

I would also very much doubt that Sony would want to release two AAA titles of the same genre at around the same time, you want to stagger releases like that for maximum sales. #Driveclub in my opinion, will be out way before GT7 is. Judging by Motorstorm Apocolypse's sales, reception and how the game turned out, along with the big delay of #Driveclub, I think it will take a miracle for this not to be Evolution Studio's last game before they are closed for good.

Their virtually non-existent support for their past few games and the dozens of awful bugs they had shows that the studio has been on a slippery slope of decline for years. I don't blame Sony from finally getting rid of some of the incompetent staff.

What problems for DriveClub? DCs development is going smoothly (the earlier delay is expect and a part of normal development) and the dev team has not been affected by layoffs. And there is nothing at all PD could throw together in between now and when DC releases that would be anywhere near the quality of DC.

According to Sony 'The progress being made on the game is spectacular'.

In essence, you have come on here and made up a story about a game's development being in trouble then linked your own thoughts on PD's GT6 development to the development of a totally separate game. Why? Just trolling?

I have a hard time seeing Driveclub "back at the drawing board". That game was pretty much done so if there's any game I would rush out just to get a driving game on PS4 it would be Driveclub.

PD are most probably working on GT7, but I don't think it's related to Driveclub.

Here are the version updates of GT5 (blue) and GT6 (red) during the first 112 days. The update pace so far looks pretty consistent with what happened during GT5, so it looks like it's simply the pace by which PD is producing content post-launch.

updates.jpg

It took 87 days before 1.05 was released for GT5. By that time the total update size was 1383MB.

It took 95 days before 1.05 was released for GT6. By that time the total update size was 2813MB.

Not to ridicule the OP's idea because it might be possible, i find that the strategy (conscious or not), that PD is using of releasing half assed efforts and not keeping their word on promised features, works good with their lack of communication.

You see; in case they are just plain incompetent and do not give a damn, seeing there is absolutely no news/ explanations from their side, people just can't believe what is happening and think of all sorts of external reasons which might explain what is happening, thus apologizing them in a way.

“What I will say is that it all comes back to that fundamental principle, and that’s that we want to build great games,” Rohde said. “And we really don’t want to release a game before it’s ready. And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we’re on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”

- i think the opposite, sony may have learned something with gt6 and delayed driveclub
- i dont see gt7 prologue being donne for any other reason than money. "easy" income beetween "full" games (gt6 gt7)
- driveclub, the crew, Pcars ... all espected for 2014, there is no need for one more, specially when it will be just another unfinished GT. a ps4 full and upgraded version of gt6, that yes! with a full race editor, i would buy a ps4 for that.

Translation of the phrase, "The progress being made on the game is spectacular"

"Marketing, marketing, marketing, marketing". I think Drive Club could be in the toilet development wise and they'd say the same thing, so you can't take Sony's word to mean anything at all.

It would be best for everyone if they just recoded GT6 for the PS4, this would be the fastest way to get a PS4 game out, also any DLC for the PS4 would also work for PS3, as its just data not code.
This would also help all the people who have paid for GT6 on the PS3.

Polyphony Digital and Evolution Studios are NOT the same company and operate independently from one another.

People seem to be missing op's point here. He never suggested a link between the companies or that kaz would be helping WITH driveclub. He suggested that SONY may be pushing PD to get GT7 on the shelves for ps4 because of driveclubs setback leaving ps4 with ZERO racing options on the near horizon. The lack of any driving game is why I chose a xbox one over ps4, I imagine many others too impatient to wait for one have done the same.

Is it true? Who knows. Its pure speculation but imo not very far fetched.

When it came to why Driveclub was delayed, Yoshida revealed it was down to complications with social features.

Is this the same structure they try to implement for GT6 ? ... could be right? ...
The community features could be something generic for more then one title?
Also the recent PSVita FW update enhanced the community features
I expect this to use the same messaging system ...

(When I now receive a message I get it on PS3, PS4, PSVita and MobileApp redundant:mad:
I hope they finally introduce a new social platform for the whole PSN environment...)
(Wishful thinking)

I think we'll probably be seeing a GT7 Prologue before the year is out, & maybe you're right that it's slowing down GT6 development. Or, it could just be that the game has so many bugs, issues, & missing features, that PD is currently overwhelmed with sorting it all out.
