Could Driveclubs' trouble be the source of GT6's content delays?

VBR
I think we'll probably be seeing a GT7 Prologue before the year is out, & maybe you're right that it's slowing down GT6 development. Or, it could just be that the game has so many bugs, issues, & missing features, that PD is currently overwhelmed with sorting it all out.
I think the latter.

People seem to be missing op's point here. He never suggested a link between the companies or that kaz would be helping WITH driveclub. He suggested that SONY may be pushing PD to get GT7 on the shelves for ps4 because of driveclubs setback leaving ps4 with ZERO racing options on the near horizon. The lack of any driving game is why I chose a xbox one over ps4, I imagine many others too impatient to wait for one have done the same.

Is it true? Who knows. Its pure speculation but imo not very far fetched.

When you put it that way, it sounds plausible. But I do agree, it is pure, unfiltered speculation.

I have a hard time seeing Driveclub "back at the drawing board". That game was pretty much done so if there's any game I would rush out just to get a driving game on PS4 it would be Driveclub.

PD are most probably working on GT7, but I don't think it's related to Driveclub.

Here are the version updates of GT5 (blue) and GT6 (red) during the first 112 days. The update pace so far looks pretty consistent with what happened during GT5, so it looks like it's simply the pace by which PD is producing content post-launch.

View attachment 133348

It took 87 days before 1.05 was released for GT5. By that time the total update size was 1383MB.

It took 95 days before 1.05 was released for GT6. By that time the total update size was 2813MB.
It's pretty obvious the first two patches contain the same data so those size numbers are somewhat misleading.

True, the differences between the first two patches are minor enough that for a new copy of the game, the first patch is skipped and the second and onwards are downloaded, but that still puts the GT6 total for update size at ~1600MB.

I only wish speculation such as this was rendered irrelevant by communication from developers to users. That would defiantly make me happy.

I couldn't help it.

I seriously doubt PD could make GT7 prologue and release it ahead of DriveClub. I would expect the majority of the game will have to be re-written for the PS4, so that's a 2 year job at absolute minimum. Then you've got the task of producing the cars and tracks, which again takes ages.

Driveclub isnt the cause of the delays, PD just needs to hire Corrinne Yu from Naughty Dog to help them. She used to work for Nasa and PD are apparently making something on par with the space program in complexity..

Yeah they need to because I can imagine Polyphony working on a Johnny Cab mission already for GT7.

I wouldnt mind her working at PD, especially because she works on Game engine software engineering, I rate she could get a livery editor working on a calculater, PS3, piece of cake.

PD have to do that because of the credit glitchers, though. ;)

PD SCHEDULE LOGIC:

Credit glitch allows players to gain massive amounts of credits so they don't have to buy Macro-transactions to drive the car they want?: MUST BE PATCHED IMMEDIATELY

Numerous other bugs that detract from driving and whatnot, include game-breaking ones and overdue content: Nah, those we'll do eventually.

I mean they can't just leave GT6 the way it is and move on with GT7P, that would leave a bad taste in everyone's mouths. I don't know whether or not PD may have anything to do with DC's delays but I think PD needs to worry about is own game's problems first.

Because it is borderline cheating. It is not the way the game is supposed to be played. People who did the glitch have massive in-game financial advantage over those who don't. ;)

They also immediately patched things that could lead to hybridding in GT5, remember - ensuring fair play is the first priority. ;)

A. How is your game impacted if I have more credits considering I could just buy them or grind for hours to get to the same position and/or get the 15th Anniv. Edition to start the game with cars and money?

B. The game is also not supposed to be played with no camber and backwards ride height tuning which gives a significant advantage to those that know about it. Where's the patch for that?

A. Emphasis on legitimacy of how you obtained the money. Glitchers obtained the money illegitimately, while everyone else did it legitimately.

B. Except that the money glitch and hybridding/car hacking made the headlines, and it was important issue. Note that I don't know those tuning exploits since I don't tune so I don't really know about it, sorry.

Right. So, how does it impact your game if I have more credits than you?

Which headlines were made regarding the credit glitch outside of a few gaming sites?

Without knowing the backwards ride height and zero camber glitches, you could not compete with me in an online race with tuning, whereas if I had $1BILLION in the bank and you had $1, on the track we'd be dead even given the same skill set. Seems to me if playing the game the way its supposed to be played" is the issue, the tuning glitches should be a far higher priority.

Re: Drive Club's director Col Rodgers leaving the development of the game:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=106121033&postcount=1393

An IGN "journalist" made up completely unfounded assumptions and passd them of as opinion/pseudo facts. Take note, PD, that people left with no information eventually get bored enough to decide for themselves what must be going on... The director left because his little boy is dying, or is at least very seriously ill. I imagine the game development is delayed by this reason. Not any problems with the game itself...

Quoting Col Rodgers:

"Hello, all.

This is my first post on NeoGAF, and whilst I'm not generally one to deal in internet speculation, I have to put the record straight with regard to Pete Dodd's comments above.

Everything he has said with regard to myself and Driveclub is incorrect. It's also libellous.

As Putty (who is a personal friend of mine, and has been for about 25 years) suggests, I left Evo in February for personal reasons. The personal reasons being that my son, who is 4 years old, has been diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, which is a potentially life threatening condition. I live 220 miles (4 hours drive) away from Evolution Studios, and was away from home 5.5 days a week. Given the circumstances, I could not continue to work there.

Driveclub is a great game, and the direction hasn't changed since my departure. This has been confirmed by SONY in various press releases over recent days.

I have no problem in dealing with very large projects, as I've been working in the games industry for the last 19 years, and have worked on some very prestigious titles, so there is genuinely no truth to anything posted by Mr Dodds at all. My departure (and indeed the setup of my 'indie' operation, BigRedSwitch) is 100% driven by family necessity, not some professional failing on my part.

I left SONY on very good terms. There is no animosity there, and I was absolutely nothing to do with the recent redundancies - in fact, the news of those redundancies was probably linked on here before I knew about them.

The games industry is a tough place at the moment. My circumstances with my son mean that I've had to leave secure work in order to try to make my own way in the world. This may entail getting another job. With people who obviously know nothing about the situation blackening my reputation for the sake of internet 'fame', this could be made much more difficult. It's nothing less than trolling.

I've contacted Mr. Dodd on his email address on his site. Due to the factual inaccuracy of his statements, I've informed him that he needs to remove the statements and apologise for the damage they have caused, as posting incorrect information and claiming it's true is quite simply libel.

I'm sure you can all appreciate just how difficult things are for myself and my family at the moment. I'd genuinely appreciate it if you can take my statements as word from the origin, and realise that there has been no big cover-up when it comes to my departure from SONY/Evo.

Thanks, all.

Col. "

Seems like a good enough reason to me, for the game to be delayed. Bigger things in life.

I guess they don't know how to telecommute over yonder...

How is Driveclub a flop? It hasn't even been released.
It's funny you say this.

I was just washing my hands after posting that, thinking to myself, "I bet someone misinterprets my use of the word 'flop'".....

As in, it's severely delayed.

Sorry for the confusion.

Edit

And just to clear it up a little more, I think drive club will be worth buying when it finally goes on sale.

I'll own GT7, PCars and drive club when they are all available.

I do agree Sony getting angry for the fact that they have no other racing games other than NFS Rivals. :sly:

I'm laughing at PD so hard now. I'm glad their getting pushed, but it's no use. pCARS and Forza Horizon 2 are coming out this year, while GT7P will just be a big cash in mess.

Well it's not like Sony aren't used to being delayed by their studios making driving games....;)

Quite a few of us played that GT5 Prologue "cash in mess" for about a year or more. And I know this dismays some of you, but if PD is indeed making another Prologue, it's going to sell at least as well as GT6 did. And I'm going to be one of the buyers.
