So now all schools in the state are now closed until the 27th.
As 35 cases are confirmed out of 1455 tested.

Still no TP or Water. :banghead:

"Never anticipated the struggle other families would go through because of a shortage"?

The entire thrust of his scheme was to take advantage of desperate people willing to pay wildly inflated prices for products they are otherwise unable to acquire.

The dutch prime -minister is probably going to anounce a full lockdown tonight in the Netherlands. This is going to hurt my business. I really hope it is only going to be weeks and not months.

Germany now close to 5200 cases. Thinking 5 days ago there were less than half.

I'm a bit curious regarding the low number of deaths though. 9 atm, which seems odd comparing to other countries with over 5000 cases.
Hopefully Germany remains one of the top countries in keeping this under control. South Korea was another country that was doing well, but there was a report that 1 patient ignored quarantine and created 2 pockets of virus-infected populations in the country.

The game that certain US media outlets are playing by claiming that naming the virus “Chinese Coronavirus,” or “Wuhan Flu” is somehow racist is one of the funniest/dumbest things I’ve ever seen.
Our politicians have coined that, too.

I think context matters.

Those "liberals" were talking about the situation when it was only happening in Wuhan (they were reporting on dozens, hundreds or a few thousands of cases which st the time were confined to that Chinese region), so I think it made sense to use the location before the word Coronavirus, just to avoid unintentional panic in the USA (seeing the amount of dumb people in the US and around the world, it's not that wierd of an idea).

Now, using the same words once the virus had reached pandemic levels and is spreading throughout the world, is stupid.

I don't like to see issues like these being used for easy political points, but I had to reply to it.

How can you anounce that at 17.30 while I have people already eating and people coming in. It would have been much more thoughfull to let it begin at 22:00. Let the people finish their diner!

Because the Hague is showing how ****ing incompetent they are. Rutte is a first class asswipe under pressure.

In addition to washing my hands whenever it makes sense, I've also started taking Vitamin C and D supplements. I'm not old or chronically ill, but whatever that helps the immune system is better than nothing I guess. Just trying not to become a burden for the health care system in the coming weeks.

What's up with the story about Trump wanting to buy a German company, CureVac, to secure exclusive rights to the vaccine for Corona?

Real or Hoax?

A lot of business in Hamburg are putting preasure on the regional government to do something about the situation. They're empty and losing money everyday, but won't get any support plans unless the state makes the order of lock down / quarantine.

Germany:
5600+ (from 4500+ yesterday) and 11 deaths (9 yesterday)

Hamburg jumped to 196 (158 yesterday)

@Dennisch I think it's not a hoax and the CEO has been replaced during this week. But I don't have credible info on that.

My sister's town has been placed into a state of emergency and has shut down after 18 cases there. What I'm curious to see is if someone can be re-infected with the same strain.

I would say no.
But.
I would say if it mutates just enough it could be classified as something different.

Now that Hamburgers are eaten around the world, should we be calling them something else, or are we going to continue to call them by the place they originated?

Ebola, Zeka, Lyme, West Nile...these are all named after their places of origin, and there’s nothing racist about continuing to call them that after they have spread farther.

The hilarious part is elected American officials referring to Chinese as a “race”.

Is it a good idea (please don't flame me as racist) for China to consider shutting down live animal markets?

Yep as written by fellow Dutchies at 6PM(CET) all restaurants, bars etc are closed. And guess what this queueing is for?

In many cities similar busy crowd because the local coffeeshop is going to be closed in 15 minutes...

Assuming you mean ibuprofen - or it's a brand name for ibuprofen I'm not familiar with - go to your GP and request a prescription for naproxen. Tell them that ibuprofen is effective but only marginally so and the moronic rush on OTC medicines means you can't find any, and you'd like to try naproxen for a month to see if it improves things. They'll ask about any gastric problems (though they apply to ibuprofen too) and advise you don't use it long-term (as with ibuprofen), but should write you a prescription without any fuss.

Naproxen is basically better ibuprofen. Much better. Higher risk of causing stomach issues though. Oh and take your maximum dose of paracetamol alongside it (again, as you can and should with ibuprofen), which I think is 2.4g/day (2x400g, three times a day); anti-inflammatories relieve the cause of pain by managing inflammation, but they don't manage pain itself. You can take paracetamol in conjunction with either ibuprofen or naproxen, combining analgesia with anti-inflammatories.

What's the nature of the injury? There might be a better path than anti-inflammatories alone if they're only easing it a tiny bit.
Yeah I meant ibuprofen. Apologies for spelling it wrongly, blame the iPhone 7 keyboard auto correcting me to something else.

But on subject, I had an accident at work where I trapped my right hand in the washing machine door. It was a hard slam too, and a day before that I had an accident in my room. This is gonna sound strange  but I fell off my bed when I was sorting my bedroom light out when changing the bulb and put most pressure on my hand when I reached the floor so I must have sprained it. I can’t put any weight on my right hand now. I can cope with it but it’s very painful. This happened two weeks ago now, everyone is telling me to get it checked out so I think I’ll take that advice now.

I’ve been taking 2 ibuprofens tablets every night (or was) since, every night when I go to sleep. But I will take your advice and I’ll try to find some Naproxen, already got some Paracetamol in which is helpful. And I will get it checked out as soon as I can get in.

Thanks for your advice Famine. I really do appreciate it, I will take it wisely.

Holy crap.

So this weekend has been pretty horrendous in work, just a reminder that I work for a supermarket chain.

The last two days have just been terrible, its so busy and we are running out/have run out of basic things like milk and bread, we didn't have TP yesterday but we did today, we put two pallets out at 9.55am, one of the ran out at just 10.03 and the other lasted a bit longer until it ran out at about half 10, there were people just crowding round the TP as soon as it was on the shop floor and I was watching in disbelief, some people have been very rude to the staff and one of my younger female colleagues was in tears after a lady shouted and swore at her over some milk...yeah really!

We had a big delivery today to try and keep up with demand and we had a few more staff in including me (I don't normally work Sundays and had to be persuaded to come in today) The store was packed with customers pretty much all day, we still managed to get quite a bit done and there is still plenty left to put out but we don't have a delivery tomorrow so we still have time to put the stock out, we also have two more pallets of TP in the back but didn't put them out today as people are acting like dickheads.

Anyway I'm home now and much more relaxed but I'm back in tomorrow for more madness.

Ebola, Zika, Lyme, West Nile. Do you feel these place names have positive, neutral, or negative connotations?

Godspeed soldier. I used to work at a supermarket (actually 2) and I cannot imagine what it must be like right now.

My sympathies - but what you and your colleagues are doing right now is very important and cannot be underestimated... don't let the dickheads get you down.

I used to work in Iceland and so I've had my fair share of encounters, but these are going to be challenging days, weeks and even months for everyone, but particularly folks who are in the front line of providing vital services to an increasingly worried general public.

Best of luck and keep us posted.
