On Saturday I was racing around BB and twice I crashed into a lapped car. I thought it had been fixed so this couldn't happen so I just kept my line and attempted to go straight through the car but instead I hit it and then I got a 2 sec penalty.

Happened to anybody else?

Sorry if this has been mentioned but I did do a search and couldn't see anything.

So the "lapped" car was not ghosted but you did try to go "throu" it,like its not there? Why do you think this is a "bug"?
Simple,next time be more carefull.

Yeah this happened to me too, except I got 10 seconds. Very frustrating. I didn't want to change my line as swerving would have affected me, so I put my faith in the system and thought I'd drive through him. It was almost like it didn't realise in time, I hit the back of it but then continued through... but that millisecond of contact counted as a crash.

I think in the pursuit of realism, the game doesn't want to ghost cars too early but in practice this means you just aren't sure if it's going to happen or not. It should ghost when you are at least 50/100m away so you can plan to drive through or evade.

Because this is part of the last update:

10. Sport Mode

- Cars over a lap behind will now be ghosted and will not be subject to collisions. (Only enabled in Sport mode);

Yes, this happened to me on Brands Hatch last night! The car was ghosted and as I approached it on the tight left penultimate corner I was happy to just drive through it but instead - BANG! No penalty and luckily it didn't send the other guy off track but I did find it very odd!

I know the notes of the update.Still if the car is not ghosted, why try to go "though" it?I mean if it is not a "ghost" you cannot race like its not there.
Be more carefull next time.
*either way,"ghosting" should not be a "thing" in a sim racing title -imo-.

Over a lap behind

If you are on the same lap it won't be ghosted, if you catch the lapped car after you have crossed the start line and are now on a different lap number it will be ghosted?

EDIT : lol I just realised that's not possible

Yep, to me reading the text you have to already be a full lap OR MORE ahead of it before it is ghosted. So first time lapping it then it will not be ghosted.

It doesn't ghost until very late as I said.... For example, if you have 4 cars all say 0.4 seconds apart the car will ghost/non ghost/ghost/non ghost as you approach. Why should I have to alter my line?

Particularly in my race; this guy was doing doughnuts and generally messing about, I called him an idiot after and he said 'I crashed and then cba.' How or why am I meant to avoid this?

If a lapped car crashes in a forest, does it make a sound?

Last night 1.13 I was approaching a lapped car with the ghosting in mind. He took a wierd line and there was no contact but then he turned into a ghost behind me.

By not crashing at him,I suppose.
Like I said, the "ghosting" should not be part of a serious or semi serious sim racing title.
Even "arcade" titles do not "ghost" cars.
But GTS does that........

Because that car is not a "ghost".

It should be a ghost though, based on the last update. The reason this rule was implemented was due to a certain amount of idiots trying intentionally to spoil long races (and also for me in an FIA race a couple of weeks back). It would be farcical if this happened when the real FIA season starts, but it really wouldn't matter if it happens in an arcade game.

I have not had an issue with that. I've noticed they don't ghost until late though.

When I was in second at Suzuka, I drove through 14th without issue

I cannot recall a "long" race in GTS.The same way I cannot think of any "serious esport sim racing title" ghosting cars -but that is off topic-.
I dont know why PD wants to use "ghosting" -its been since the closed beta btw and not only related to lapped cars-.
With the 1.13 patch, lapped cars should get "ghosted" when they are getting lapped. But if that does not happen then the car that is lapping them, should avoid contact with them.
Thats my point.

Probably because of all the videos being posted on youtube of lapped cars intentionally wrecking leaders and causing them to lose the race. I'm glad this feature has been added tbh.

Sorry mate but "ghosting" was part -from day one- of closed beta. Also not just "lapped cars" are/were getting "ghosted" during all this time.
So "ghost" cars was a choice made way before final release day and not just because of some lapped cars creating problems.."The real driving simulator"......

The point is that they don't ghost until late. So you see the guys in front of you drive through a car, it ghosts/unghosts/ghosts/unghosts... why would I not just drive through it as well as opposed to taking the disadvantage of trying to avoid someone doing circles on the home straight?

I feel you create arguments for the sake of it, Jules. This is a great rule to avoid idiots ruining races yet you are saying it is the fault of the person racing correctly and then just make negative comments about the game itself.

There should be blue flags for lapped car...

This morning I had first race with 1.14 and catched car for a lap.
First he, maybe, removed to the left for the moment, but with yesterday's experience of my SR dropping to 46, I didn't want to risk at tight walls of Bathurst.
And I was to far to just pass on right, while corner awaits.

Moment later I came close and his car ghosted, but only for very short time...
I have automatically hit the brakes, ofc.

Luckily, he found where ghosts are very soon :)

However, I think there would be crash if I wasn't so careful...

It's from 42:55 if you are interested

This happened to me last night. Went into a corner behind a lapped car, the car brakes at the Apex and instead of swerving and blowing my position(2nd) I tried to go through the ghosted car. The car wasn't flipping back and forth between ghost and normal, it was only a ghost. But the physics acted like he had a solid rear bumper. My guess is that they don't want you drafting through the ghosted car and give the lapped cars solid rear bumpers. I was shocked lol

@zaxs video shows it... you get close enough and it ghosts, but do you risk driving through? You should be able to without fear of time penalty.

My comment about ghosting and reghosting was illustrating the cars in front of me passing the ghosted car... basically it seems that the car is only ghosted when you are within only a couple of metres.

I said that imo "ghosting" should not be part of a sim racing game. This is my opinion and not a negative or positive comment.
With that said,"ghosting" was part of GTS from day one of closed beta.So the reason for being into the game is not just "lapped idiots".Either way,if a car is not "ghosted",then common sense is not try to drive throu that car.If a car go "ghost/unghosts/ghost again" then there is a problem of the "ghost" system and not a "bug".
Another example -a bit different-:
The leader is going to lap not one but two people that are fighting for position. If the system "works" *as patch notes, then both cars should get ghosted when leader is passing them.
What happens in case only one of those two get ghosted?Propably contact.
Or even more, how fair would be if the one of those two "use" the "ghosting" in order to gain that position?
BTW what do you mean " it is the fault of the person racing correctly"?
If someone hits a car in front of him that is on the racing line,he is not racing correctly. If the car in front is pretty much waiving right or left, blocking the guy lapping him,he should get reported and banned -and a penalty in the race if the system allows that-.
If GTS cannot create a platform of clean and fair -as much as possible- online racing, its not my fault, its PD's fault.

Sure and neither should idiot drivers just trying to ruin everyone else's fun. So ghosting is a necessity

It's not ghosted at a distance but ghosts when close... having read the update notes I expect it to ghost before I reach it as he is several times lapped.

Ahh... you love a hypothetical question eh Jules.... most likely when two cars are that far behind, they will not be fighting for 19/20th spot. In that situation, the person in P1, 2, 3 or 4 has more to lose so they should get the benefit of doubt.

BTW what do you mean " it is the fault of the person racing correctly"?

I am racing correctly, driving the track to try and win and complete the race. Why should I be punished for someone intentionally inconveniencing others?

So ban people from buying the game?

Or why not just ghost lapped drivers? What is your issue with this fix?

I think the game expects you to not drive through a ghosted car unless it's not possible(e.g.: Crashed car in front of you), but yeah, the game should also have ghosted him.

Rule of thumb for me: Avoid driving through ghosted cars because I can't figure out when the car in front will have its ghost mode turned off.

No caveats.

A good rating and penalty system is a necessity.

You are actually pointing another "problem": PD notes are so "genetic" that people have to "test" in order to understand how things work.BTW I agree with this (I mean what you expect to happen).

Yes P1 has more to lose but either way two cars can actually be fighting for P19.Someone has to win and someone is going to finish last or second last.

I am racing correctly, driving the track to try and win and complete the race. Why should I be punished for someone intentionally inconveniencing others?

Like I said,if I hit another car from behind that is not blocking, waiving and just racing properly -using the racing line- its propably my fault and not his.

So ban people from buying the game?

Or why not just ghost lapped drivers? What is your issue with this fix?

Yes ban them.If someone is cheating or not following the rules, they should get a ban or suspension -depending the situation.
This is not a "ban people that bought the game".This is "Ban people that do not follow rules in PvP -online racing".Its the same for every other PvP title.Cheaters are getting banned. Why should not in GTS?
Like I said in a "sim" title, ghost is not acceptable. The same way "no damage" is.It creates a specific type of mentality -into players- that should not be part of a "sim racing title".
