Sony should employ that guy from the fake twitter as their spokesman. At this point it couldn't hurt.

This is the company that spent R&D time and dollars developing the Sony Rolly. Sony you should have been improving PSN, not developing this flop. http://www.sony.co.uk/product/ro-rolly/sep-30bt

It's not a parody or joke, it's real.

I wanted one of those, but it was way too expensive.
I think PSN will get a lot of improvements now, as it'll be under the spotlight.

Sony expects to have servers up and running by May 3rd, 2011. This outage should end by Tuesday May 3rd. Great! Now we can get back to the seasonal events! Thank you SCEA.

Massive Government Interest in Sony PlayStation Network Hack

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2384675,00.asp

lol @ Taiwan:
Finally, the city of Taipei, Taiwan and its Law and Regulation Commission also was said to be launching an investigation into the hack, together with possible fines. "The letter was sent on Wednesday and gives Sony 10 days to respond," IDG reported. "If it fails to reply in time, it would be fined between NT$30,000 (US$1,044) and NT$300,000 for alleged breaches of local consumer protection laws, the commission said in a statement."
I bet the US$1044 - US$10044 fine has them worried about replying in time :nervous::lol:

Yup. Until the world bankrupts Sony.

A few parts of this article that make me hmmm

Although which services will be coming back online next week is unclear
as already discussed upthread we don't know if they'll just be starting with the PS store or what. Which would suck.

Hackers - lock your doors. Sony's coming after you.

I know the journalist is being cute, but I don't think Sony should be going after anyone. I think the FBI should be going after them, instead of going after Sony and trying to impose fines. I'd much rather they pool all their resources into finding those actually responsible aka the hackers. The article makes this sound like it'll amount to a Sony civil suit like GeoHot. We all know it's a criminal action at this point but the editor should have hacked this last line. It's corny and technically incorrect (or at least I hope Sony isn't being given law enforcement powers).

I stoped reading after the very first line......

Sony has confirmed that it hopes to restore some fuctionality to the PSN service by next Tuesday in a new statement

Has anyone cancelled their bank card yet?

Also ive only just seen those playstation network cards, so you dont need to enter your card details. I didnt know about them until now. :(

Sony says all sorts of stuff. Such as, "We never asked anyone for their cc security code." And then, "Well we did ask for the code, but we did not keep it."

I wouldn't hold my breath based on anything coming out of their mouths. PSN is like an old man, you never know when it will be back up!:nervous:

I don't recall having to enter in the three digit code when using my cc in either of my accounts. At the most the hackers would be able to buy stuff from the store with an account. Without having that three digit number they can't use the cc info anywhere else. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I know, in order to use a cc online you must provide two other pieces of information. The Exp. date and the security code. Sony first stated on their blog that they never asked for our security code and then changed it as seen in this quote from the blog.

"Keep in mind, however that your credit card security code (sometimes called a CVC or CSC number) has not been obtained because we never requested it from anyone who has joined the PlayStation Network or Qriocity, and is therefore not stored anywhere in our system. UPDATE: While we do ask for CSC codes, we do not store them in our database."

In other news, According to Reuters, Sony Corp executive deputy president Kazuo Hirai is scheduled to address the media about the PSN outage and security breach in Tokyo tomorrow at 2 p.m. (1 a.m. EDT).

In Tokyo? Why given that over half of the PSN users are in the United States(38 million) it would seem he would give it here. After all I don't speak Japanese.:yuck:

I can tell the FBI where ALL the hackers are, they're hiding in their mum's basement. :)

Let me try and answer that for you, oh yeah, it's maybe because Sony (prepare for the shock) is a Japanese company!!!!!

Really? All of this time I thought SCEA stood for Sony Computer Entertainment America. Duh...stupid me.:dunce:

Actually I think it stands for Standard Oil of New York, SONY

But actually the truth is.....

"The name Sony was first used as a trademark on the company's TR-55 transistor radio in 1955, and Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo officially changed its name to the Sony Corporation in 1958. The only connection between Sony and the Rockefellers is that Sony head Akio Morita and David Rockefeller both served on the Trilateral Commission beginning in 1973.

SONY, Just another NWO Corp.

I don't care if you are being deliberately obtuse or simply trying to start an argument, it stops now.

This thread exists at the discretion of the staff and right now your dragging it down, and that gives us three choices.

  1. You calm down
  2. You get a holiday from GT Planet
  3. The thread gets locked

I will tell you for nothing that the last one is not going to happen.

Has anyone cancelled their bank card yet?

I have cancelled mine out of extreme caution (in fact three since I can't remember which one was linked to PSN).

Since my previously used credit card expired, they can use whatever data they want :D As for the new one I cancelled it day one and i'm waiting for a new one.

As for my personal info, good luck trying to use it :D

Common sense also suggest don't use the same password on every website or whatever needs a password.

Some serious bandwidth and coordination must've been used so I say keep visiting Facebook and the likes. What are the odds of your computer being used in such an attack because of trojans installed on your computer coming from flash apps (just one example)

I got this email from my Europe account(so I could play a demo meant for Europe years ago):
Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at www.eu.playstation.com/psnoutage should you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,
Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment Teams

Sony Network Entertainment Europe Limited (formerly known as PlayStation Network Europe Limited) is a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited the data controller for PlayStation Network/Qriocity personal data

I don't have to worry about credit card details because I never put any credit cards on PSN neither on my US account nor my Europe account. Though I can see bank companies having a lot of work ahead of themselves.

Does anyone know if there will be a live stream? If I worked it out correctly it will be 6am here in England, wouldn't mind.... oh wait, I just realised he will probably be speaking Japanese. Never mind.

The user information has been compromised?

Oh well. This makes me grateful of entering fake personal information when I signed up.
