Free PSN+ I think that's their solution for everything at the moment

I guess that is better than the PSN- that we have had for the past 10 days.:)

I hardly think it's Sonys fault that you kept using outdated email addresses after you switched ISP, is it?

So the PSN goes down. I then change ISP's. SO how am I to change my e-mail when I can't get into PSN to do it Mr. Smarty pants?

That is incorrect. For Plus subscriptions, if you get a game completely free, you don't get to keep it after your subscription expires. However, if you get a game at a discounted price you get to keep it after your subscription expires.

In other words, if you get it free, you don't get to keep it. If you pay for it (even discounted price) you get to keep it.

I can understand them doing this for the free 30 days to stop people downloading free stuff en masse, but is this also true for normal PSN+ subscribers? If so, that's terrible!

Call their helpdesk, I'm sure they can help you if you can prove the account is yours. And no need for namecalling, it' rather immature. If you don't post that information in your first post, people have no way to know, have they?

First of all, the initial bravo felt from this announcement worried me about additonal attacks. To me, it seemed like Sony was coming out and saying that "they're to be takes seriously... this time", but then again, perhaps that more me than the structure of the announement. Regardless, I'm sure that once it's up, it'll be another target for some 13 year old haxxor wannabe to have a go at, and this time I hope Sony is ready.

Then I read:

"SNEI and its third-party experts have conducted extensive tests to verify the security strength of the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. With these measures in place, SCE and SNEI plan to start a phased rollout by region of the services shortly."

Followed shortly by:

"Working closely with several outside security firms, the company has implemented significant security measures to further detect unauthorized activity and provide consumers with greater protection of their personal information. The company is also creating the position of Chief Information Security Officer, directly reporting to Shinji Hasejima, Chief Information Officer of Sony Corporation, to add a new position of expertise in and accountability for customer data protection and supplement existing information security personnel. The new security measures implemented include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
•Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
•Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
•Implementation of additional firewalls"

...and I thought, "OMG! My widget!.... OMG! Yonis (sad, I know)" Yonis has always been on the up and up with what he does with his widget and very transparent, so I'm hoping Sony doesn't single him out as said 13 year old haxxor wannabe in the first paragraph, and put an end to our B-spec goodness. "Unusual activity patterns" technically could mean me since I leave my widget up for extended hours, but I also argue that Yonis' widget doesn't modify/enhance/adjust/change/alter the race result, but mearly makes them happen more at random while the end user is busy doing other things. Case could be made either way.

I get 30 days free for a service I wouldn't pay for, that's kinda cool... I guess (PS Plus).

The regional content stuff could be cool, but hopefully it's for games I actually play. GT5 DLC is always my number 1 request, so if Sony/PD could make that happen, I'd be willing to forgive them for the outage. No harm, no foul... if the content is good.

Lastly, it's nice now that they've put a face to their security. The next time any part of the network is out, I can totally flame Shinji Hasejima on the interwebs.

Jerk couldn't announce what region would be turned on when?!?

I think the insult started here above. What did you mean by:

"you kept using outdated email addresses"

Where did I imply that I have used multiple outdated e-mail address? Also you implied that it was my fault without having and knowledge of the facts. Then you call your friends in here to further attack me because you can't fight your own fights.Lame :dunce:

"1776 was indeed a great year"

IF so... then you had the worst ISP, that doesn't allow previous customers to get mails from their old mailbox, or at least offers to auto-forward mails, for like 1-2 month after change...

Or maybe you just want to "create" a problem, when there is none...?

Previous you did say:
Leadpaint
Also I've changed ISP/e-mail since my account was setup on the first system.

That do indicates that it wasn't a recent switch of ISP...

But as said by others, call the help-desk if you get a problem with password-change. I am sure they have considered what situations might occurs to different users, given the forced change of password.

No one has called anyone's 'friends' in here and the post you have quoted doesn't contain a single insult.

Now lets nail things down a little, first you can stop with the 1776 and other daft references that have nothing to do with this thread at all.

You can then explain to me exactly why you claim to have switched ISPs since the PSN went down, but you have been using the same ISP to post here at GT Planet since you first joined back in Feb (well before the PSN went down).

You see these two things seem to be rather at odds and the staff (and that is the entire staff) would like an answer, particular given the AUP contains this...

AUP
You will not knowingly post any material that is false, misleading, or inaccurate.

...because right now I'm struggling to think of reasons not to ban you.

So are people expecting PSN to be up soon after reading all the blog posts? 9:33 am EDT.. Nothing here yet.

Goohhh, I really hope that it will be back online soon, I never thought I would miss it this much.

I'm just happy when PSN is back up. Those compensations are nice, but they're secondary to actually having the service again. Looking forward to racing and just being able to sign in.

I'm guessing the Latin American region will be one of the last to be restored since there's no official Sony/PSN support here. At least that's the case in Colombia.

I think it's cool that Sony is giving us a month free of PNS +. They did not have to do this and I appreciate it. Plus it will give us people that don't have psn+ at the moment to check it out and maybe in the long run Sony will actually gain a lot more psn+ members.

JOKE: maybe this was their plan all along :JOKE

"In addition, PS3 will have a forced system software update that will require all registered PlayStation Network users to change their account passwords before being able to sign into the service. As an added layer of security, that password can only be changed on the same PS3 in which that account was activated, or through validated email confirmation, a critical step to help further protect customer data." Let's say i've used the same password for PSN & my email account, i can't acess my email account because someone changed the password in the meanwhile! :ouch: What's Sony's solution for this?

Yep, i've just found out that i can't acess some of my alt email accounts. Not very important, created them only for my alt PSN accounts. But it's still pi**ing me on.

Start from the scratch & deal with the PSN & email loss is not a solution. Especially if you've lost your main accounts.

When they said it would be up "this week" I don't think they meant "tomorrow". I'm sure it will be a couple days.

Everyone just take a deep breath and chill. It's coming...

So you are saying that since the psn was hacked you cannot access your email accounts? Dang. I should check all of mine right now then.

I would like to know that too, although I have recently gone through all my email accounts and changed them to 24 digit alpha/numeric/symbol passwords just in case.

Agreed 100%.

LOL @ everyone who is expecting it to be fully restored and functional within the next five minutes.

They said "shortly", shortly doesn't mean next week, it means today, now even, not days later.

Shortly doesn't always mean today...it means withing 24 hours if you really want it, or just soon this week if you're a sensible person like me. ;)

If anything, the soonest I can see it being up by is at least tomorrow night.

No, the definition of shortly is perceptional. If I say to someone "yes I'll do that shortly" I mean I will do it within the hour, probably sooner.

Also tomorrow night is in next week, the $ony guy said "this week".

Not a single person has answered my question. On the $ony website their are people blogging comments to press releases. MY QUESTION is how to post comments when being logged into psn is required? ANYONE?

Yes, created the email accounts just for GT5 dupping, haven't logged in since i set up the new PSN's for them. And now i can't log in, getting the message "Wrong PW".

It's a 50% chance that it is the work of the hackers. Or the email provider closed the accounts due to false persona details. I don't know, only getting the "Wrong PW" message.
