3.61 is more likely because its only security changes

Can we please not have posts simply saying that you don't yet have access.

That's not news or an update, its simply confirming what we already know.

Post when you do have access.

Did Sony ever post an official "day" that the system would be back up? They may have but I have never seen it. I know they stated that it would be this week(we can only hope).

I did come across something interesting relating to the PSN outage issue. Note the date of the posting.

No, I believe it was "within a week". I'm also fairly sure that was preceded by "we hope it will be up".

Personaly i couldn't care less about free content or free downloads, they owe me nothing. The only thing i wouldn't mind knowing is a time schedule for when the network will be restored - the waiting and guessing game is now starting to do my head in a bit! Surely they must have some form of time frame?

I agree. No free crap for me, just get my PSN back already.

There is a news story on Teletext saying that the day before the attacks on PSN started, their PC gaming service (Sony Online Entertainment) was hacked and 24.6 million peoples information could have been stolen.

It will only affect customers in Germany, Austria, The Netherlands and Spain though.

Why oh why are they waiting so long to tell people stuff?:dunce:

Sorry..... if you already now this
Just watched today IGN's Daily Fix and it says that...
30 days of free Playstation plus for each user.
Content for free for some games.
And that some SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) have also been hacked and they will get some free content.

I asked this earlier but...

Since we get the PS Plus for free do we get the discounts that they get on games at the Playstation store?

Any discounted games you buy, you get to keep, even if you quit the membership with PSN+. But any free software from PSN+ won't be able to be used after the membership expires.

Two posts above yours.

Roger that, thanks.

Think I'll do some shopping once it comes back up...

Sureboss, you are correct.My bad.:sly:

Another piece of news that I came across questions if the current PSN problems were caused by someone from the inside. Sony fired a number of people just before the problems started.

Was PSN Hack an Inside Job?

The question I'd fire at that conspiracy would be why would Sony respond to the PSN hack, by publicly stating they are removing 205 positions and then leaving a compromised (bearing in mind that this compromise can involve serious and rather massive financial implications) service up for 3 weeks before taking it down? Not only is that illogical, but would be miles out of the recommendation of any legal advice. Which will have been heavily sought throughout this process.

That all said, inside jobs can and do happen. Not quite sure of any scenario which results in a third of the department losing jobs for it though!

To me, it just says they were centralising/centralizing (;)) the operation.

PSN+ for a month and some other stuff at discount, etc, will be nice. Might act as a nice little shop window for Sony's sale of PSN+ too.

Sony should have strengthened it's network and encrypted ALL data, not just the obvious stuff.

The online portion of PSN hasnt really bothered me seeing as I've had no internet for the past couple of weeks due to my ISP migrating my phone line and my Broadband to a new network.

First I heard about this was on BBC News 24 late last week, then again last night when Sony announced that a second intrusion has been uncovered.

It wouldnt surprise me if more intrusions are uncovered as time progresses.

Plenty of theories flying about possibilities of some of the 200 strong employees that were fired in america and are potentially being part of this.

I'm not saying this is the case though, It's just hearsay / rumours and rumours are likely to be more widely spread as this develops.

Sony have a lot of questions to answer and a lot of people to "win back" after this.

The layoffs were not a response to the attack. They were announced over two weeks before the attack.

The possible scenario is that a disgruntled employee (or employees) launched the attack or passed on information to others that assisted in the attack.

The US congress is demanding answers from Sony over the reality of the PSN hack, this is the letter they have sent. Sony have always been tight lipped about how they run the whole Playstation operation (what the firmware updates really do, how reliable is the system, how secure it really is etc etc) and irony is it now feels like they are on trial! All this started with Other OS... what they would give to turn back the clock!

Hacked PS3, George Hotz, Anonymous, DDoS attacks, stolen personal datas & credit card details, PSN down, ... and now 205 fired employees, insider job?

My gosh, what's next in the Sony daily soap?

I just want to see:

... and the credits, the truth! :)

How does it feel like they are on trial? The committee is already looking into federal data security this year, as in it was already on the calendar, and want to get Sony's take on this after this situation. They aren't being asked to testify or appear, but merely to answer informative questions so that the committee can attempt to draft effective legislation.

In comparison to Barry Bonds this is nothing. Sony could completely ignore them or tell them to screw off if they wanted.

Basically let me translate the letters for you:

Paragraph 1: We're writing about your system security breach.

Paragraph 2: We understand your statement to say this.

Paragraph 3: We are actually planning to look at legislation regarding this kind of thing. Could you share some information with us to help us do a better job? Here's some questions:
