i read in one update they said the service will resume a week from yesterday and that was on thursday i think, so its today some time i recon

First off, we want to again thank you for your patience. We know that the PlayStation Network and Qriocity outage has been frustrating for you. We know you are upset, and so we are taking steps to make our services safer and more secure than ever before. We sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern this outage has caused, and rest assured that we’re going to get the services back online as quickly as we can.

We received a number of questions and comments yesterday and early today relating to the criminal intrusion into our network. We’d like to address some of the most common questions today.

We are also going to continue to post updates to this blog with any additional information and insight that we can over the next few days.

We are reading your comments. We are listening to your suggestions. Please keep them coming.

Thank you.

Q: When will the PlayStation Network and Qriocity be back online?
A: Our employees have been working day and night to restore operations as quickly as possible, and we expect to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday. However, we want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we are confident that the network is secure.

For all I know you may well be right AUS_Topgear. I'm hoping for it to be up soon as much as anyone. All I can go on is the most recent information which says PSN up by Saturday 7th.

Well, since it wasn't restored today, we can pretty much say it's been two weeks of downtime.

Can you provide a link to the May 7th restoration date?

Wait... Isn't Sony providing that anyway?

Not in the least!

A quote from the press release
"...the company is committed to helping its customers protect their personal data and will provide a complimentary offering to assist users in enrolling in identity theft protection services and/or similar programs."

So they are offering to assist users in enrolling. Which pretty much means they will provide you with a list of websites or phone numbers of the services so you can enroll yourself.

But they did assist you by giving you the phone numbers.

This information is incorrect,

Note : this statement was made May 1st, so Sony have till May 7th to make good the promise PSN will return this week. I was not saying it will be restored on May 7th, it could happen anytime this week.

Yer when they said this week on the 1st it is vague, but if you look at what they said on the 28th witch gives a deadline of starting to roll out a week from the 27th it still fits in with the "psn will return this week" statement. So should be today but not getting to excited just yet.

For me, they have two minutes until Tuesday is gone.
Then they'll be late and I'll sue them for false advertising.
I'm really getting bored, after we found OBL, there's nothing to do!

This information is incorrect,
You can stop trolling this thread now.

Sony's only time frame for PSN going back up was "before the end of the week." How about you show me where someone, who wasn't speculating, said when PSN will be up?

Again, go get some sun.

Neither of those things are capitalist ideals.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I meant her intent to sue as an individual just to get money, when so many were affected by this mess including Sony (hence her desire to gain capital). Why doesn't she sue the hackers? I dunno it's just such an American knee-jerk reaction. "Money!!!!"

Edit: even though she's Canadian (forehead-slap hehe)

No its Wednesday for you, I in Aus and its Wednesday here, the statement was made on a thursday so should be Wednesday GMT or may even be USA time so later again.

In the Ps Blog on the 28th m8, this is a bit of what they said, i bolded the bit so you don't miss it again.

"Expecting" isn't a word someone who is certain of something uses. Also, a week from yesterday on April 28th would be today May 4th, not the 3rd.

If we have to wait until the network is totally secure, I'll never get smashed off the track online by some fool again. Can a network be totally secure these days?

Sony has admitted yet more data may have been stolen and closed another of its gaming services. Two weeks after a "very sophisticated" hacking of its PlayStation Network service, Sony's Online Entertainment site has been suspended, with a further 25 million gamers' personal details spirited away in the biggest criminal hack ever.
The company said late on Monday that the names, addresses, birthdates, emails, phone numbers and further information may have been hacked from its servers as well as an "outdated" database of credit card details from 2007.
In a message to its customers, Sony said: "We had previously believed that SOE customer data had not been obtained in the cyber-attacks on the company. However, on 1 May we concluded that SOE account information may have been stolen. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking."
Sony had already been forced to shut down the entire PSN service after the break-in of 18 April, but said it did not find out about the latest breach until yesterday, which forced the SOE service, which includes the DC Universe multiplayer game and Facebook titles, to go offline too. As many as 25 million gamers' details could be at risk.
When asked whether other data could be lost, Sony spokeswoman Sue Tanaka said the Tokyo company could not be certain further breaches had not taken place. Although the electronics company reinforced firewalls to protect systems, she added: "They are hackers. We don't know where they're going to attack next."
Three executives bowed for several seconds in apology to users at the company's headquarters today, saying PSN would be back online this week. "We deeply apologise for the inconvenience we have caused," said Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment. He added the FBI and other authorities are investigating what the company called a "cyber criminal attack" on its data centre in San Diego, California.
It remains unknown who was responsible for these massive thefts of personal data. Members of the hackers' group Anonymous denied all responsibility at an event in Los Angeles last week, wearing their trademark masks.

Indeed, this weekend i'm expecting to win the lottery while Keira Knightley is sat on my face. 👍

The only fact is this, PSN will be back when it's back and no amount of nit-picking over specific days will speed that up. I'd rather they take the time and get it right than not.

oh well, looks like another night of time trailing for me lol

soo missing racing my mates online :(
(and randomally blasting people off the ring in a Focus ST lol:tup:)

Isn't this news already mentioned in the thread? Or is this additional to that?

@ Tower turn 13.

This additional info is from may 3.

basically SCEO(mmo branch of sony) got "neutralize" by a 3rd party yesterday. I dont know if this will affect psn but this sure will hurt sony like never before.

yes, the article was as per 3rd May. Also there's a new post on playstation blog.

Yup.. that's a wise choice, mate.. 👍

I've read one novel already since its been down. I guess maybe I'll pick up another book from the library tomorrow.
another productive solution.. :dunce:

I want to see a movie about these hackers and their war with Sony. I really don't get it. They want to put Linux on the PS3 so bad there going to commit identity theft? To what end?

Wonder if they can keep up the attacks till E3.

What a conference Sony would have then.

Sorry to all missing their online fix. 8^(x

agree... this would be a good plot to make a thriller movie.. 💡

Just a quick note - I'm not adding Sony's Blog post about SOE to the sticky thread as it isn't a PSN issue. Similar, but separate.
