I'm going to upload videos to this thread that'll document my journey through GT5.

So far, I've golded the B license, bought an MX5 as my first car, then progressed to the '07 RX8 Type S. I was looking for a Nordic Green one to match my own, but that colour was discontinued in 2006ish so it wasn't available. I know you can paint cars but only if you have a car of that colour to start with. There is a Nordic Green RX8 but it's a standard one and I'm unsure if you can use standard colours, so I bought a dark Green Mica Copen for 15000 to sacrifice it's colour so I can have my car in game. (The RX8 in the first video(s) is still it's original Black.)

I've not uploaded any of the Sunday cup races in the MX5 yet, so here's race 1 of the beginner FR race in the RX8 at Grand Valley East.

Video was recorded "live" and has a replay following on.

EDIT: Race 2 of the beginner FR championship at Tsukuba

EDIT: Race 3 of the beginner FR championship at Trial Mountain.

So far the car has had nothing done to it. Everything off, except ABS at 1.

More to follow when youtube gets round to uploading/processing them...

Update 30 November 2010

Amateur European Hot Hatch Championship.

Took a Lancia Delta Integrale for this championship. Didn't do anything to it, apart from removing traction control. Had been doing some races in standard cars before this and had forgot to change back to cockpit view for this race.

Eiger Nordwand

And the Rome race

Update 1 December 2010

I then took the Delta to the Festival Italia races at Rome and London.

Rome

London
This one is a replay and contains a lap where I was constantly running side by side with an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale for practically the whole lap

Update 4 December 2010

I spent an evening on the B and A licenses, golding them all (including the rally one which is nearly unprecedented for me).

Here's a video of A10 (A lap of High Speed Ring in the Evo X) as I was pleased with the line I found round the AI

I found a Plum Crazy Dodge Charger in the used car lot, so I had to buy it and take it to the Classic American Muscle race at Monza. Monza? In a car with a 118mph top speed? Are they mad? Who designed this race? Famine? Anyway, I decided I needed an advantage so put Sports Softs on. I would still be slower than the Cougar and the Corvette, but would have an advantage in the corners. The race became a-do-the-corners-as-fast-as-possible-and-feather-the-throttle-on-the-straights-so-as-to-not-hit-the-rev-limiter-while-watching-mirrors-for-faster-cars-from-behind-athon...

I also found a Toyota Tacoma X-runner in the used car lot so I took it to the Amateur Truck race. It said that some of the other trucks had 400ish bhp against the Tacoma's 240ish, so Sports Softs were installed to help out. The races turned out to be rather easy...

Laguna Seca

Daytona

Update 7 December 2010

Epic supercar nostalgia battle between my 512BB and the AI's Lamborghini Miura. I made a huge mistake on lap 2, but managed to just get him back into the casio triangle on the last lap

Update 8 December 2010

The London race of the British Lightweight Championships. I should have used an Elise for this, but I had just won a Tuscan and, as it was eligible, decided to use it.

This one is from the MX5 race. I gave this a go in my original, starter, unmodified Eunos Roadster '89 fully expecting to lose badly, but it ended up being a really enjoyable race.

Update 14 December 2010

Latest batch done and uploaded. I've completed beginner, amateur and professional levels and have now moved on to Expert.

These videos are all from the Expert MR races. I got an F430 Scuderia and decided to have a go at these without modifying it (except for Sports Soft tyres). I did the High Speed Ring race first go, but the Deep Forest Gateaux races took a few goes.

I wasn't fast enough in a straight line to have won this. The AI's F1 and W12 were easily faster than me but I managed to pull out a gap in the last lap to stay clear.

Onto Deep Forest. The Zonda was my main competitor in this, but I could brake later for the first corner, and I could carry much more speed into the last corner. All I needed to do was catch him...

Gah! 0.038! Bummer.

2nd Attempt. The Zonda wasn't much a threat this time. He couldn't seem to get past a mutant Miura that seemed to have a bucket load of power, but a distinct lack of handling.

Update 20 December 2010

Bought a Gallardo and went off to do the Expert Gallardo race at Rome. Did my usual with the car (kept it stock, but with Sport soft tyres). Was quite an easy win as they kept on running into the wall at the end of the back straight...

It's currently uploading all of the Expert Japanese championship races. I did these in an un-modified Honda NSX Type R. I had originally started the chmpionship on Sport Soft tyres, but I won the first race easily, so switched onto Sports Mediums for more of a challenge.

Tsukuba
Spun out on the first lap and ended up last but came through the field for the win.

Fuji

Monza
I recorded the replay of this to give a better angle of some of the excellent battles. The main battle was with my main championship challenger, the Nissan 350Z.

Grand Valley

Suzuka
Here's a replay of the Suzuka race. Highlights are a 3 way side by side by the AI for the first half lap, and a good battle between the 350Z and I that included doing 130R side by side with no contact

Update 22 December 2010

Fiat 500 @ Tsukuba Seasonal race

The Fiat was modified slightly with sports transmission and lightened windows.

RX7 GT-X @ Deep Forest Gateaux

The RX7 had the following mods. Sports manifold to take it up to the limit of 204bhp. It also had sports transmission, single plate clutch, sports flywheel & sports suspension.

Update 24 December 2010

Dodge Challenger R/T '70 @ Indianapolis Road Course

Didn't do much to the car apart from giving it a customised transmission, single plate clutch, sports flywheel & sports suspension. I don't think the car was at the limit of 425bhp, but I didn't give it any more power.

Nissan GTR @ SSR5

I took my GTR '09 V spec put it on sports softs and fully lightened it, and powered it up to 489 (just short of the 493 limit). I didn't change or upgrade anything else. It's probably the most untidy video I've ever uploaded...

And, for a bit of fun, heres the 3rd Top Gear Challenge in the Kubelwagen.

Update 28 December 2010

Historic Car Cup.

I used my recently bought '70 Dodge Challenger R/T for this. I race modified it, and gave it more power (but not as high as it could go...) and went and did the races. If the Toyota 7 and Chaparral 2J were in the first 2 rows, I had to quit and restart. They were just too fast for me, as the end of the first video shows.

And here is the Cote d'Azur race. A demon start got me behind the XJ13 and 330 P4, and I managed to pick them off to win.

And a replay, of the above, showing different angles

Update 29 December 2010

This one is a stock Audi R8 4.2 at the Nordschleife in the Extreme Schwarzwald B championships.

I removed the hud and track map, and made the view narrower, for a more realistic race experience.

Update 1 January 2011
NASCAR Seasonal event at the Nordscheife

All I did here was max out the downforce. No other settings changed and it's my usual no aids except ABS on 1

Update 4 January 2011
More NASCAR. I did the extreme NASCAR races last night, and here's the results. I didn't post Indianapolis as I just ran away from everyone for an easy win.

Grand Valley

I spun (with help) at the first corner, but came back through for the win.

High Speed Ring

I spun (with help) at the last corner on the first lap, but came back through to win.

Laguna Seca

I didn't spin on this one, and came through to take the win.

Daytona

I was taken out on this one. The video shows the crash.

Update 7 January 2011

Intermediate AMG Challenge full lap

Update 8 January 2011

"Easy" AMG Challenge Full lap

And then I moved onto the wet challenges, and they did seem to be slightly easier than the dry ones.

Section 2

Section 3

Section 4

And the full lap. I beat the gold time by about 10 seconds here, and I didn't think it was that good a lap...

Update 17 January 2011

I've been posting online races in other threads so I thought I'd post them here too.

The video of the the first 6 laps of my race (although not much happens after lap 4. I stopped recording when I was getting bored of videoing me trundling round in 3rd, with the first 2 moving away in front of me, and with me being able to stay clear of 4th.)

Highlights of an M3 race at Rome

Update 11 February 2011

Just found a brilliant race.

Take an Integra touring car. Fully equip it with all power mods, oil etc (Mine is now at 407ish bhp,) and throw a set of racing softs on it. Then take it to the Extreme Super GT event at Suzuka.

5 rules
  • Make sure it's dry
  • Make sure an NSX starts on the first 2 rows (or at least ahead of you)
  • Do not run off the track
  • Do not hit anything (the AI hitting you from behind or rubbing side by side is acceptable. A light tap to the AI is OK as long it doesn't send them off track, or give you the place)
  • Do not actively block

I did this last night and it's an excellent race. The NSXs (Raybrig especially) will catch and pass you at a couple of points each lap, but you've got to maximise your speed through the esses, and superior braking power into the first corner and the Casio triangle in order to stay ahead.

At one point, I had the Arta NSX coming past on the outside, and the Raybrig coming past on the inside coming up to a corner. They both got a car length ahead entering the braking zone, and I shot back through the middle in a demon late braking manoevre. It was brilliant fun.

EDIT: All of that is based on my driving ability. If you're quicker than me, let the Raybrig start on the first row. Basically, the further forward the Raybrig NSX starts, the harder it is.

Update 07 March 2011

I did the seasonal Historics in the VW Typ2 Samba Bus. It was a laugh. I believe the power was about 140ish bhp and the bus also had sports suspension and transmission upgrades.

Update 14 March 2011

Expert Turbo Challenge at Monza using a stock, and unoiled, 400R

80's Japanese Seasonal race at Tsukuba using a slightly modified MR2 Supercharged. It has sports exhaust, sports intake and sports ECU. Tyres are Comfort Softs.

Update 25 March 2011

Seasonal Truck race at Grand Valley Reverse using a matte brown Toyota Tacoma. It was modified to about 330bhp and using sports hards. I had won the other races easily, so I put 200kg in the back for this race in order to make it a close race. Didn't plan on making quite so close...

Great videos ... can you upload drifting videos?

rofl.gif

EDIT:
I have a question... Does the braking while your foot's on the gas serve a specific purpose? Is it to just make minute adjustments to your velocity? Or is it something more complicated like getting extra traction for manuevering from (maybe I'm being silly) your drivetrain and differentials (maybe?) continuing to limit slip (while torqued)? Or do you just do it because it works? Just wondering.

To be honest, I'd say the last option, because it works for me. Its not something I do deliberately and I don't realise I'm doing it and it's just the way I drive. I don't use the clutch on the G25, so the left foot is always available to brake and I suppose I just use that to slow down a touch if I feel I'm running wide.

I would have liked to see the license tests... I don't know anyone that's uploaded them so far...
I'll upload my b licenses when I get a chance.
Why's the screen so small though?
I'm recording in 1080i, but still to find the best way to get them small enough to upload. My net connection isn't great.

Watching this videos is a pleasure...I was checking out reviews like gamespot, and their driving is a MESS!
Keep it up!

Great vids, but mess with your Hauppauge settings because you can record in much better quality still:
I know. I'm recording at 1920 x whatever, but as I said earlier...

...it's the media converter I need to get better settings from.

Maybe divide the race and replay in two different videos, then you can upload it at a higher resolution.

Great videos daan, will you be adding commentry, also update your first post if and when you get a good stable setup on it! Kepe them coming 👍

No, I won't be doing any commentary.

I've uploaded a couple more races and added them to the first post. I've worked out better settings so they're up in HD now, although there is no replay after the race.

Another couple of videos added to the first post (Festival Italia at Rome and London, still in the Delta Integrale)

Updated the first place to include License A10, Classic Muscle (Charger at Monza) & the Truck races at Laguna Seca and Daytona.

Hello? Anyone there?

Anyway, for what it's worth, I've just uploaded another video
