My count is 3-0 Audi over the Toyota. I do not doubt your numbers. Is there a way to gather this sort of data? The sites are rich with all kinds of info but I have not run across this one.

Data miners out there? Any tips?
Yeah, but driving skills matter too. An alien might blow everyone away in a Sauber, if he's fast enough.
Overall, the Toyota is faster in the race because it's easier to drive and manages its hybrid better without the need of excessive trail braking. Yes, the Audi is faster over one lap, and also faster potentially in race. But don't base your data according to how many races you've seen it win. 3 is quite a small sample size.
If you want to drive it, go for it! It's fairly competitive over here because of it's high top speed, but you will have to learn to manage the ERS.
Also not sure about cold tires in TT mode, I don't think I've heard that before?
Data matters in quali, but on track, with different drivers, no datamining can help.
 and see you on track!

Well race C is hard and full of idiots, but from being lapped to actually finishing races I'm improving, but still not good. I'm also getting quite consistent and getting many laps around 2:06. Not exactly breakneck speed, but am getting quicker so might be able to get some good results. Well that would be if I could get clean races. We're not talking shoving people off on corners, but straight out taking your back end when passing on straights. Got my quali down to a 2:03:261 which is just over a second off what Kudos says I need so might be close by end of the week. Feel this is the only weekly worth even bothering about this week and I'm getting better with really fast cars, prefer the other GR.1 cars, but they can't keep up with the new ones, even I'm 2 secs slower with the 787

How does the Porsche 919 compare to the Mazda for outright pace? I'm not the fastest driver but love driving the Porsche...
I was really happy with the Porsche in the FIA event at Spa over the summer. While everyone went with the usual, I had a solid 4th place and nearly a podium driving the 919... it's so forgiving and flexible, and while it doesn't have the ultimate pace, I also enjoyed driving it more than the META. And kept it solidly on between the curbs all race.

Ran some laps in the Audi last night, chasing Fraga's ghost. I can feel the speed, I can get a drive out of tight corners, but I'm a 1 foot driver and have never gotten the hang of left foot braking, so dealing with boost issues is tough. Couldne't get beter than .8 seconds off of my Toyota time. Hopped in the Toyota and was immediately in the low 2:00 range, and finaly dipped into the 59's. That lap was FAR from perfect, as I went way wide in the first corner, and missed the apex at maybe 5 more spots, so there's more there for me. Also did some laps in the 92C. 205 MPH on the long straight, but a good 2-3 seconds off of the Toyota's pace. Ran it from the back anyways. Though I might have a chance at the start. Got 1 position right off the bat, before the chicane, and seemed to hold my own on the first lap. First mistake and I was seconds behind the last guy, and the only people I saw were spun out. Finished last of the finishers (up 3 spots!) and didn't even make it to start/finish before time ran out. Live and learn!

Sometimes being able to reliably push harder through the tight and twisty stuff is more useful than outright pace, and to be honest I think that is where my strengths are, so I think I'll keep persevering with the Porsche! Working on a cool livery for it anyway, so might at least look good on track!

You can find more pace i am sure, try the fake Mazda, it is the easiest to drive, and drive it hard. You will hit 2.01 or 2.02 I am sure. I am turning relentless 2.02.5s in free air, as late as lap 9.

I'm starting to like the 908. Seems to be a good alternative plus won't have to worry about KERS that much as well and it just destroys the hybrids around the Kemmel straight and Stavelot-Blanchimont if the gap is not that far off.

Got some podiums on it but will try to aim for a win.

@Rexracer702, never hurts to try left foot brake practice in TT or the qualifying before a race starts. Being able to modulate both throttle & brake is one of the reasons I started using a wheel & pedals.
Yeah, I've tried it, but never really put in a lot of laps. When I get a chance to race, I usually don't have much time except to run the 2 or 3 races that I can. One day I'll really put in some time and get it figured.

I'd never seen bikes on Tsukuba before. Ouch, that's gotta hurt. :scared:

I was going to say it's way too rinky dink of a track for bikes, especially with so many on the grid, but I guess after 2 or 3 red flags, the grid size is more managable. I think I'd skip that weekend.

I'll chime in with my first and only race at Spa. Reason I said the 908 was fast. I had battled up from the back, in the TS050. An R18 barged it's way past me. Bullied the cars ahead of me and I couldn't catch it.

Towards the end of the race, my hybrid had over half full energy. Wasn't depleting. I N E X L G T R was recovering from an off or spin in the 908. I caught him and let him recover. From there I battled him for half a lap and then he drove away, seriously, left me in the dust, for a couple laps to the finish.

I'm competitive versus that player, if I qualify well, but the me in the TS050, couldn't catch the R19 or the 908. Hey, if others can catch quick players, while using the TS050, more power to you. 👍

Great race on A this morning. Great grid of racers. Started/finished 2nd. Bumper to bumper all the way. :D

Sometimes there are billboards on Tsukuba (next to the start. not his week) for bike racing. I'd always wondered about it. Yup, it's crazy.

I have done many this week at spa usually starting in top 5 and clean air is EVERYTHING. the only time I have been able to pass or get passed was off mistakes. To me once either car beaks the tow they either are off and you have no chance or you can make up some ground but once you get close too much dirty air you are stuck...

Three terrible races at Maggiore and my DR and SR have both taken a battering. So much filthy driving, even when my SR was still at S and everyone else was too. Dive bombs, side swipes, running people wide into the sand. Brutal. Not even slightly enjoyable!

Keep in mind that light braking won't harvest anything if the battery is empty. If you drain it completely you have to do some extra braking between corners in S2, so that you recover a little and this technique can work again. Also, the exact point at which the car stops using hybrid is 250 km/h.

And on top speed, I don't know the exact km/h difference but I know for a fact that the Audi still pulls away from a Toyota when the Toyota is in the slipstream.

The Audi is the better car, but only if you make hybrid saving work. Driving it normally you can barely get sub 2 minute laps, with hybrid saving it can get down to mid 58s in race conditions.

Topic: Audi R18/Gr 1 and regeneration.

Thanks for your guidance.

A clarifying question: how do I harvest while not compromising the overall lap? The method I see is to apply the brake but maintain throttle. It feels unconventional as I learned to use the brake or throttle but not both. I am ready to experiment. This may sound naive, but:
  • On sections where you would normally lift, like Fagnes left and the left after Bruxelles/Rivage, are you instead light braking while maintaining throttle?
  • Are you harvesting in Bruxelles and instead of feathering the throttle you are holding the brake longer while more aggressively applying throttle?
  • Are you doing anything at the fast Pouhon left?
  • Are you effectively applying the brake while on full throttle prior to hard braking sections?

In theory it should work but I have found it difficult in practice. I am at the point where I can finish Blanchimont with leftover charge and am scoring my best S3 times but it is not overcoming the cost to S2. It feels like the potential is there.

My goal is to use this for race pace as I am effectively done with qualifying.

PS: for anyone trying to harvest for the *next* lap in QT. It is easy but not obvious. On Blanchimont run full throttle in 2nd or 3rd gear and apply the brakes at 50% while maintaining full throttle. You will run between 110-150 kph and you will take about 10 seconds to get a full charge.

Forgive me if this caused a double post. I submitted it earlier today but it disappeared.

Passing at that track, in Gr4 cars, is not real easy without contact. And unfortunately, at the lower levels, especially, people are not going to be reasonable about the contact. In a high DR lobby you'd expect some 'rubbing is racing' moves, but it is too common for people to nastier in a lot of races.

Still using the TS050 (Tried the Fazda and it didn't suit me) Q was low 2:03 just did a run 1st lap 2:02.639, 2nd crap 3rd 2:01.772 which breaks Kudos time for me and I still think I have more. Really hard to work out where the time is lost with a long lap and only 3 sectors. Anyway last race today and hopefully will be better than the other 3.

Those times are fast enough to view/ghost a top 10 lap. There is a little podium icon that leads to the top 10 list. I find them instructive as they demonstrate the car limits leaving it to me to determine the best path to reach those limits.

I keep forgetting about that, I check them at the beginning when they are too fast to help that much, get a clue here and there, but once I have the basics down I should check them again. Thanks

What the hell is going on with race A tonight? Did I miss the memo that said it was Smash Night? I've raced A all week. Managed to get my DR over 40k for the first time ever. Tonight I have been pushed, brake checked, dived bombed, and all manner of screwed over. Highlight of the night? Managed to finish within 2 seconds of Sturk in one race! Guess I just watch TV for the rest of the night.
