What is it with some drivers though, your following at say 1:30 per lap (slow for RBR, but just an example) not pushing, it's too slow so you pass (usually really easy as they're so slow) you get in front doing say 1:27 laps and the guys on your tail trying to pass. It happens to me all the time and I can't understand how people can speed up so much when you pass them...unless they are looking in the mirror and not driving their best?

They probably don't need to look at the map when they have a car to follow.

In my view l, every pass/side-by-side/fight with the exception of slipstream fly-by's on straights are causing time loss for both drivers involved. If I am attempting a pass, it is because it is necessary and I will choose the best place to make it stick - most cases for me being T1 - cause I usually have a very good exit from last corner.

But there are a lot of different drivers here, what it does work for me, will not work for others and vice versa. I even appreciate a courageous dive from time to time, when I don't need to take evading actions to avoid the diver.
i love the guys who try and pass say on RBR turn 3 when there is a line of cars say about 4 and I am last in line braking a bit early being very cautious not to bump the care in front of me because it will cause a chain reaction but here GT hero trying to pass me diving bumping shoving its like where do you want me to go ....

Sorry guys. I'll pack my bags and leave the forum, I'm clearly not on your skill level, nor do I have the brain power to improve and get to your level.

Apologies for having fun with a game and sharing that. My bad right.

No man, don’t leave, that’s not what anyone was getting at or wanting, not in the slightest bit. We are trying to help you become a better driver, and have even more fun with the game. That’s all, my apologies if it came across that way.

@TonyTufast This is the wrong attitude man. As already stated, you should stay, especially if you enjoy the game. You wouldn't be the first person to have an introduction to the daily thread go this way, and I'm sure thers a couple guys who will tell you that backing off the attitude a bit will let others help you. All your posts this morning are defensive and/or combative. Perhaps we could have been a bit nicer about it, but as i said you hit on a really hot issue, that's all. Pretty much everyone here wants to have good, hard, but clean racing, and will do a lot to help others do the same. If that doesn't sound like fun, perhaps you are in the wrong place.

No need to leave. Just know that some people take the game more seriously than others.
Diving inside to make a pass is a good idea, as long as you're not making contact to gain the position.
If someone enters a turn wide, and you can squeak by on the inside, that's their mistake. 👍

I think it's ok if you race different line as long as you do so cleanly and if you don't race cleanly then folks are right to call you on it. I am not the fastest guy on the track and if you look at how much my DR has dropped you will see I am clearly struggling with this week's races. Even though I am not going to trouble the top spots or even the top 10 I am still quite proud I have mostly kept an SR: S rating.

The folks here are willing teachers and they all clearly love racing in GT Sport. I have picked up a lot of good advice from them and I know it's made me a better racer. However a person has to be willing to listen and sometimes swallow a bit of pride to get the benefit of the advice being offered.

My 2 cents as the folks across the pond say.

Totally agree with you, kind of in the same boat knowing that I won't reach the top but really enjoying the game.

I played this game for about the first 60 days not really understanding what SR actually was, in the context my online racing was very hit and miss with sometimes weeks between races. Once I actually read about SR that became my focus and I have only on a few occasions dropped below SR-S which usually was following a FIA race that I knew before entering it would be crazy and one of the few times I quit. Overall, I think I got reset twice before realising what a reset was and then how it was multiplied because I quit. It can be annoying when you get crazy penalties when you are trying to keep out of trouble but the changes make it less of an occurrence since yesterday. First and foremost I want to race clean and enjoy the game, granted I'm getting faster and winning more often then I was but when I look at some of the other Irish racers I follow and there way ahead of me in DR but SR B or C. I will take the lower ranking with a clean SR. When I get it wrong the odd time I always say sorry and when I have a close clean battle I will message the other driver at the end to say "thanks it was fun". No desire to run people off the track, did it once or twice in the past but got over it.

Hi folks, question: anybody noticed problems with pedals after update? I know it was only for G923, but my friend is using old G29 and his pedals just stop working after update...

Hi there. My G29 is fine. Because G29 and G923 are combined in the controller set-up section in PS/GTS, I was worried my brake sensitivity would change along with whatever changes were made with the G923. My G29 seems exactly the same and is working fine. If there is very subtle change, I can't tell.

Set a goal(s) for yourself that is above your ability but is achievable.

Mine are:

  • get in the top split,
  • run in the upper half of each race,
  • run in packs and not wreck,
  • set a QT within 2% of the top (excluding Igor Fraga's time - even the Aliens look at him oddly),
  • race cleanly and maintain a good SR,
  • do it for Group 4/3/2/1/X .
Getting a top split win or increasing DR rank are *NOT* explicit goals. If I hit most of my goals then a win may fall into my lap and the DR rank will take care of itself.

And finally, keep it fun!

This is great advice.

After a busy start to the week had a chance to run a couple race Bs tonight and thought I'd give the RX-V a shot after the update. I really enjoyed it, and it is tempting me to go Mazda for FIA.

The new penalty system is interesting at any rate. Lap 2, I'm P5 from 6th, got a nice clean overtake at the hairpin on lap one, from P3 back we're nose to tail down the straight into T1. P4 taps P3 on entry and the seas part, open shot through the middle, and I take it clean while they recover from the wiggles (no one off track or ghosted) RCZ follows me through. The rest of the field bunches up, and on the replay I count 9 cars in basically 3 rows of 3 wide bumping and banging between T2 and T4. Needless to say chaos ensues and as I come up on P2 serving a .5s pen, I check back on the chaos and miss my brake point by thiiiiiis much, RCZ gets through and we form a train with P2 and break away. Eventually a fast guy in a vette from the back passes me and I follow him through the last turn on lap 4, RCZ goes wide in T1 and I end up finishing 4th.

Not a single pen given out in the 2nd lap T2-T4 chicane chaos even though multiple cars were making serious contact and a few ended up off to the land of ghost.

Think the remainder of the week is FIA practice for me, my first go around and looking forward to it.

@TonyTufast,

I have read the posts (most of them).

Let me try an alternate explanation... but I will arrive in the same place.

You saw an opening, that is, on the start the leading driver took the racing line where the speed is lower (lap 1) and that means there is an opportunity that does not exist on later laps. So far, that is good racing instinct. You need to press the advantage when others make mistake or do something sub-optimal.

Figuratively, for a dive, it will only work once!

In the next race the lead driver will be more aware. He will adopt a defensive line and you will *both* lose. In some parts of racing teamwork and reputation come into play. The dive works if you are the only one who practices it and no one defends against it. And that is not a long term outcome. The dive, long term, leads to crashes and DFLs.

This is the footer to every post from @RacingGrandpa:
The rules of racing: https://f1metrics.wordpress.com/2014/08/28/the-rules-of-racing/

With respect to the board you got a punch in the nose and you did not see it coming. You didn't think you did anything wrong but then Whammo! It is a supportive and direct place. It is supportive as we an get all kinds of answers and advice for which a single brain cannot produce. We also challenge each other and call BS when appropriate.

My Little_Guppy_72 id is below. The first 60 days of kudosprime reads like a horror show. Day 60 is when my participation here began. I checked my ego at the door.

So give the board a second chance but you need to modulate your own responses - that whole ego thing.

I admit there are still things about this board that I do not agree with or understand. Like any good religion, though, I listen to the bits I like and subtly challenge the rest.

Also the pit lane entrance is bad.:ouch::embarrassed:

I didn't expect them to try to cut back because to me that makes no sense here and they clearly didn't think I was going to pit, so crash time. :ouch:
I'm surprised it hasn't happened more to be honest.

I have seen that move a lot actually. Besides didn't you purchase the additional turn signals on that fancy car?

@TonyTufast if you watch f1 you probably know the story of verstappen, he’s supremely talented, but unfortunately he couldn’t win races he should or even score decent points because he kept crashing into others, he got questioned by reporters severally about his racing etiquette to the point where he swore he would headbutt someone who will ask him the same question again, Deep down we all know he worked on that and now he’s considered as a title challenger, that being said, take what was said as constructive criticism, if these guys are A+ and you’re C , they’re definitely doing something better than you,, if you really want to improve , listen to them,
I’m grateful i did, and I STAYED

Anyone have an idea of a decentish qualifying time for Race C for a very low A/high B driver? Don't have a lot to compare against and would like to know before diving in! Thanks
I'm a low B and I put up a 1:23.1 with the Nissan but I haven't raced yet so I am wondering the same. I'll probably race tonight.

I am at 1:21.8 and that is my limit for the week.

If you are in the Americas region load up and watch the ghost for "IOF_...." Igor Fraga, from the top 10. It is textbook.

These three are all close but this is the order for QT:
  • Honda NSX Raybrigs
  • Nissan Motul
  • Lexus.
For the race I have opted for the Lexus. The META is the Nissan. The Lexus tire wear for RM is 1 lap better than the Nissan. Have not tried the Honda and almost no one is running it in the race. I guess tire wear. Do not know if it is true or not.

I did a race at roughly 24k DR yesterday, my quali time is a 1:22 flat and I started 10th. Pole was closer to a 1:21 flat.

As it happens my DR is now tanking as I only got up as high as I did thanks to being in lower SR rooms since December!

Not even mapped to my wheel, not enough buttons. :dopey: They are hard to see sometimes anyway and people use them for a variety of reasons so incidents like that will still happen anyway. :indiff:

Did you opt for Lexus because of the new update's pit times? I think I will also use the Lexus in the race because it is more stable for me.

My heart hurts and I get a lump in my throat when I watch the aliens drive and no amount of reminding myself that I'm new helps.

I did notice that Mistah MCA did a lap guide with the Lexus so I'll check that out before I race.

Having run both quite a bit there is very little difference in lap times (if you even get the chance to run at full pace) with the newer Nissan and newer Lexus, although I'm missing a few tenths in this combo compared to where I'd like to be. :(
