I'm liking Daily Race A so far. Made me learn about the Golf I GTI's capabilities more about one make racing. Had a close race in this one.
I must have just missed you yesterday - I raced a couple of those guys and had a couple of good races with the Japanese guy in third. At one point he nudged me wide through the final chicane, but waited and bump drafted me into the first corner so that we could resume fighting on the next straight.
I'll have mixed feelings if I do see you in a lobby - good to see another GTPer, but bad in that I know you are comfortably quicker than me :)

It's nice to discover more and more Oceania GTPers whom I raced before. :)

I look forward to racing you more as well.

I am glad to see a VW, and the GTI at that, as the one-make this week. Not enough non-Japanese / non-JDM cars in the rotation, and that's a fun one. I'm looking forward to slinging a rusty old GTI with steel wheels around Goodwood later this week.

Ignore that guy talking about cheats. He spent the week of the 86 race at Suzuka short punting everyone and spouting garbage like that the whole time. He called me a cheat for not turning in when he tried a dive on me and so he missed and ran off track.

He just thinks anyone he can't punt or beat is cheating.

@D_Dragline saw you playing with Leon the other night. Not again, surely? I am really struggling with that race. Might see you out there more as I warm to it. But enjoying (mostly) the golf carnage for tonight.

Yes, had a couple of races with Leon. Same old, same old. Some people just won’t learn.

Have done plenty of race C so far. I wouldn’t say I enjoy the combo, but I do find it addictive. I’m starting to be competitive in strong lobbies. The secret is brake less, accelerate more. It always takes me a couple of days with the Gr 2 cars to remember this. It’s so counterintuitive that this makes you corner better and saves tyres.

Had a couple of races with @pennanton tonight. As always he’s too quick for me but I did get a buzz out of going into the esses 2 wide with him and coming out the other side in one piece.

Used kudosprime random car picker for my Gr4 car this week. Merc SLS AMG Gr4. Never really see it in the Gr4 lobbies I've been in, so will see how I fare. Anyone use this or is there a reason no one uses it... ?

No doubt they're on rails when the downforce is being utilized. The problem is that's not typically when contact occurs. For me, the perfect example is the final hairpin at LMGP2. That is a very slow corner where the back end can get wiggly, even with TCS on.

One of the ways to counter the squirmy rear end of the Gr. 2 cars is once the car gets too loose for your liking, get off the brakes & tap the throttle. Then get back on the brakes. That lift & throttle moment (with TCS 2) will reshift the weight & let TCS take over for any wheelspin. It's a trick that you have to learn to do quickly on a DS4, but both brake & throttle can be alternated or used simultaneously with a wheel/pedal set.

I had a go at race B yesterday with some good races to start then I got beaten down and lost my CRB of 5 by someone pushing past through the COD.
So I gave up after that and had a go on race A .
Didn't think much to it really , then I got to get the feel of the car a bit and started getting up the grid , even had some poles .
Finished with ...... a win from pole with CRB . That's when I decided to quit while ahead . Maybe get another go Friday.

Someone used it in that race I won. Finished in the tip 10. It's top speed isn't great, but it handles nicely, due to its front mid-ship layout.

It's just an average performer when cars like the 86, WRX, Lancer perform better. However, that's the joy of using the underdog. Beating better cars. 👍

So...race B maybe not as much fun as I thought.

My qualy time isn't great so I'm starting near the back (15th usually). 3 races this evening and by keeping clean and avoiding trouble I managed to get up to 5th or 6th each time by lap 2. But it's a wreckfest and those behind are all angling for revenge as they assume you must have punted them due to the carnage. Got punted at the COD, up the esses and coming out of Larini.

Still managing about P11 but it's rough in low B in the early evening. So rough that penalties are being handed out liberally. In one race I came up on a group of 3 with 2 having 3 second pens and the other with 5!! They must have stopped and had a square go to get those penalties under the current system:lol:

Meanwhile I'm spilling DR like the Exxon Valdez spilt oil

I'm hoping to jump on for a race or two later, so I'll get to test out what it's like in my moderately capable hands. Not holding my breath, but hey, it's worth a try to challenge yourself, right??

With effectively no SR impact, times in qualy are insanely close and have been for a few weeks. I am a high B and man, 3 tenths can losenor gain you 5 tons spots. Its seriously tight.
A side note of that is finding these people who always out qualified me nut juat dont have racing ability, or understand how to race on track with others. In my messes at race A last night both incidents were caused by hot lappers who didn't understand how to race around others. Lack of awareness on the spacing of cars and the room needed to drive non optimal lines.

It can create a mess and cause some issues, but it might start teaching them how to actually race instead of lap and push everyone off since both races I ended up ahead of those drivers as eventually their moves cost them on the end as they came off the worse in similar situations.

I finally was able to get back into GTS tonight. It's been 3 weeks, & the rust had already begun. Qualifying was terrible. My first race back, DFL. Ended up 3 spots better. Took my own advice & spent time setting qualifying laps. Got to where I thought I would have a better starting spot. Started 3rd in back to back races. Maggiore is a tough nut running backwards. But as I ran my last race of the night, I felt more comfortable in the car. That helps with confidence in the car. I even pulled off a couple of slick moves. Finished 3rd in those races where I started 3rd. Should have given me a few points on my main account.

Here's one. Anyone playing the game on PS5? Just want to know if the speed of the PS5 helps when exiting post race, to join another race at the same time.

When the awards tally at the end, after I'm quickly pressing the X button and return to the post race screen, I usually see many cars have bailed. Usually the Japanese players are gone first and they'd be able to join a Race A or B. I miss out by 1 minute.

Would that not be more related to your internet download speed than the Playstation's processing speed? I know they have some pretty insanely high internet speeds in Japan.

I'm in a new building, hardwired fibre to the premises.
When I was still living in NZ I had a friend in Japan who had internet over 100mbps while we had one of the fastest private customer speeds at 12mbps (this is going back about 15 years) so I wouldn't be surprised if their internet speeds are just much faster. I get the same thing here in lobbies, I return and it's half empty. I'm on 38mbps download, so nothing fast but I always thought any of the online lobby waiting times would be more related to your connection speeds, and those of the others in the lobby too.

EDIT: I just found this site which completely disproves what I just said above. https://www.speedtest.net/global-index#mobile Although that's based on averages...

EDIT AGAIN: Changing the tab to "Fixed", Japan does actually rate pretty high, as does Spain and I often seen Spanish drivers exit from lobbies really quick after a race.

I've managed to pick up a penalty or two at the T6 right-hander. Sometimes cars cutting it come to a dead stop when clipping the wall and those behind run in to each other. I even managed an SR down arrow the first time in weeks!

Talking of internet mine went down last night briefly. I had just set a new faster time at Goodwood and half way around the next lap I got booted. The router decided to reset itself for some random reason. When it came back up I had a few seconds to jump back in. I did so in time but it did its usual nope too late malarkey and threw me out again.
Ah well on to Race B for a couple of laps. Again got my time lower, but still way off almost everyone else in the game. (Where are they finding the time?)
Started 13th. Gained positions due to people spinning off including a GT-R. He caught back up and got a better run out of the first chicane, but he could not pull alongside. As such he should have given way at the kink. Nope I was nudged slightly wide. Not liking this I came off my brakes for the next corner and he subsequently went wide after some 'minor contact.' ;)
He ended up about a second back and fighting with an Italian I passed earlier in the race. I was now on the back of a RCZ. The only place I was quicker was on the run to the last corner. On the last lap they left the door open and I took it. Unfortunately understeered a little delaying their turn in. I wasn't totally happy with the move and I was debating it up the hill. I decided to slow down to let them pass. A couple of seconds later they smash into the back of me sending me over the line in 5th. You can't help some people.

This is one of the reasons I started racing with no qualy time so I could get practice at dealing with other folks on the track cleanly.

Learning when to pass someone and arguably more important when not to pass are what help me get through the field from the back. Trying to win on every corner will just slow you down, fighting will slow you down and wear out your tyres. All that does is lose time and put you under pressure from the folks behind you. Running behind someone for the first few laps isn't the end of your race assuming they are up to race speed.

My most successful strategy in a race, though sometimes hard to do, is just to be patient and wait for folks to pleb it for the easy pass. Sure you can put them under pressure and doing things like shaping up a corner as if you are going to force a pass without having any intention of doing so will often result in a pleb from the person in front, again for the easy pass.

Sometimes you will have to force things especially in the shorter races. However, for me in longer races like C or things like the manufacturers it's not always the best option until near the end of the race. Even then it might be better just to be content with your position rather than trying to force something that isn't on and potentially lose places if / when things go wrong.

Often though it seems like force is only option used by other folks, which can be really really frustrating.

I had been following closely the leader in race A for the 2nd and 3rd lap happy to take a second place just keeping as clean as possible , eventually they made a mistake on final lap and I sailed by , lovely first place for me , No they decided it was better to ram me off on penultimate corner for the pass after I had given them the descency of a clean race .

I've been lucky with clean racers in race A so far this week (at the pointy end, anyway). Got a win last night from 5th (pole was 1 sec quicker). Came up to the first braking point on lap one in 4th and pole took a tight line and went off before they could make the left. 2nd place followed in sympathy, while 3rd hard to brake mid corner to avoid them. I was a car length back and sailed past the lot of them. Built a 2 sec lead by the end of lap 2, but by then the polesitter had recovered to second and was taking time out of me rapidly. Came down to the last couple of corners. I hugged the right side of the track all the way up the straight and he had the good manners not to stuff me in the grass under braking. I think he planned on trying to get a run out of the chicane, but clipped one of the barriers. Also tried a race C. No idea how clean that was, as I was laughably slow compared to everyone else on track.

I hope you remember their name, and patiently wait for the opportunity to give them the same race they gave you. :mischievous:
