I think he definitely one of those guys who won't throw the first punch, but is more than happy to throw the second one. I think there is enough mutual respect between us now that the underdstanding is there is no malice behind any contact.
I've found that I can gently slide into turn 1 and 4 (? - the next braking zone) to point the car around the corner. The absolute no-no is sliding any time after the apex.
 
Also another thing that made me learn about in these Daily Race A sessions are on improving my launches even if its not mandatory to hold the brakes until the green lights are on.
Use the handbrake. It requires far less travel to deactivate it and you can be at full power regardless of control method.

Also it only needs to be on between "1" and "Start". Before then the car won't go anywhere anyway.

I'll keep that mind. Need to continue improving my starts.

Ever since I started doing Daily Race As, the more it made me want to improve my launches/starts as I was so used to the rolling starts that Daily Race B and C delivered.
 
Am I doing it wrong by just holding the throttle open and letting the game release me when it sees fit?
Not at all - I was referring to the Grid Start/False Start Check races that @Stephan mentioned as being "mandatory to hold the brakes until the green lights are on" in his post.

In those races you won't go anywhere until 1 anyway, and using the handbrake as a literal go-switch is more effective.
 
I participated in around 10 races B and it's probably the worst experience I had in Sport mode. A couple of races were mostly clean but everything else was absolutely horrible. I was starting around P10 most of the time and was absolutely destroyed by the chaos of punts and dirty driving. Punted one guy myself by mistake after being pushed and he divebombed me hard a couple of times after that. Last lap, last corner, he is behind me due to serving a penalty and goes for a final dive. I brake early and let him fly right into the sand, after which he quits.

Another race I revenge-divebombed one guy myself but I think the whole group of seven or eight drivers in the back deserved the same fate. In another go the guy who was absolutely ruining the race for everybody let me and another guy through on the final straight. Just why would anyone do this is beyond me. I guess they are just some kids sitting on the other side laughing at how they troll everyone.

Thought that maybe starting higher up the grid would help me to avoid all this madness, set up a much better time and started on P3. Ended up P2 but felt nothing because my fair battle with a guy from Poland for P1 was ruined by a driver who pushed us both after wall-riding into turn 1. While we were crawling like turtles trying to carefully hit the apex he pushed us away on speed, just to crash later, slowing me and the polish driver even more.

Don't think I'll race here again this week, race B brought the worst in me and I don't need this kind of emotions. It seems like races with wall-riding and destruction derby opportunities are bringing in more players that prefer that kind of "racing". Race B was much cleaner last week. Maybe race A will be a bit better.

As for the penalties, both the current "system" and the one that was before are pretty flawed. SR S lobbies were cleaner, but you could have easily loose SR pretty quickly due to unfair penalties. The flaws of the one we have now are pretty obvious. What surprises me the most is that the same thing happened last year - we had a strict and not an adequate penalty system which was then switched to almost "no penalties" mode. Which was later replaced by a more strict version of penalty system again. And now the story repeats itself.

I would like to think PD can make something better out of this system in GT7, but if they didn't make something work for a game with the focal point on online racing, I don't think they will do it for a usual GT game. Would be happy to be wrong, of course.

Unfortunately my controller broke yesterday so racing is over for now.

They just don't make them like they used to. :lol:

Gotta say the racing in race C in Asia tonight has been appalling. Juat ram someone into the wall to stop them passing, use the brake check turbo boost to get a good run out of corners. Stick your nose in on a 1 line corner because slipstream let you catch up. It was ugly.

Walls on all sides is the reason I hate Tokyo street circuits. Even going back to previous GT games with Tokyo R246 (or whatever it's called).

Not to bring it up again.. but there are also those who want to perfect the art of Wall Riding in race C...

That driver has a reputation for being dirty. So seeing him/her wallride is expected.

Hmmm... I think on the Spa Gr2 race last year I did that and the grid isn't level. My car rolled naturally and I got a jump start penalty for pressing nothing. Best not to risk it.

I don't follow. The handbrake immobilises the rear wheels, and all Gr2 cars are RWD. You'd not have got a jump start penalty if you'd used the handbrake instead of pressing nothing.

That's my point. I pressed nothing and you said to press nothing until 1 at least. I however moved before then, so it is better to hold the car with your preferred method until go.

I very much did not say that. I said that your car won't move at all until the "1" part of the countdown, so you don't need to do anything before that. At no point did I advise anyone to press nothing, only to use the handbrake as a go switch rather than the brakes - I have the handbrake on from before the screen even fades in from black.

As for why you moved on the grid in Gr.2/Spa, I can't say. You shouldn't have if you had brakes or handbrake engaged.

This means you recognise they have brakes/ handbrakes on from the start. You followed with 'In those races you won't go anywhere until 1 anyway' Which suggests that you don't need to until 1. Again I may have read too much into it but it was easy to think that is what you meant.

That is that for many of us while certain moves are within the rules in a technical sense, they are against the unwritten code of racing if you will.
For many GTS players anything involving a wall hit is deeply disturbing to a point where logic is thrown out.

The real problem though if you think about it is that you have many different players all with their own unwritten code in their own mind.
Some take from reality others from gaming.
Conflicts are inevitable. In real life certain moves like passing from way too far back standing on the brakes crashing into a car might get a person suspended black flagged into a fight etc.
In game they get punted.
The bottom line is that it seems to me in many peoples minds their own unwritten ideas based on game override the games rules.
That’s when it gets weird. A racer has to race according to the rules provided by the FIA or sanctioning body or whatever.
That’s true that’s real it applies to all, but the unwritten ethics always still apply and there will be revenge etc.
That’s racing. It makes it great.

That's correct. I certainly didn't tell anyone not to press anything until 1 though.
 
Race C is so much fun I'll be there all week... Ford GT is a monster from front to back basically each race. Hell even the BMW Z4 was moving thru the field with relative ease :lol:

I think F1 is META followed by GT then VGT car since the Ford pulls twice as hard under slipstream. Ain't nothing keeping up with the F1 on straights though. Lots of fun to be had this week...

Good seeing some GTP folks in the dailies though @KosmoKazi

Sorry if I run anybody over yesterday.. most people off pace I was kinda just running thru them couldn't let momentum slow down. I know couple people complained post race :banghead:

The only “rule” they really give us in the 2 videos is “don’t make yourself look bad”, if bouncing off a wall to gain time doesn’t make a person look bad, I’m not sure what does. So yes, it does go against the one Sport Mode rule, technically.

But if everyone's looking bad, nobody looks bad and really it's the people who don't look bad who are the problem.

Yep for false start checks I use the handbrake too, and I think most people who are quick use this technique, for the reasons you mentioned.

Funny thing is the Audi E-Tron has so much torque though that the handbrake can’t hold it on the line. The FIA one make race at Fuji a few months ago caught a few people out I think in slot 1, people just took off on a false start :lol:

:lol: Yes, there are a handful of powerful (well, torquey) AWD cars that can overcome the handbrake, simply through the torque to the front wheels. I recall in GT6 the GT-R Nismo could too, and the E-Tron wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Practice starts FTW!

Right that’s what I was getting at. It’s deficient.
One way to interpret don’t make yourself look bad is that cheating is okay as long as it looks ok.
Truly, per this game the penalty system is what tells us what’s a rule or what’s allowed.
Everything else is just in our mind an idea of what we think is right, based on whatever.



I liked the original penalty system as it existed at release.
Contact was essentially not allowed.
The racing was clean at 99 sr. When I started this game I was 99 immediately. The lower ranks have always had nothing to do with Motorsport but a lot in common with Mariokart.
The penalty system sets the rules of engagement.
It’s the single most important thing in the game imo because imo it’s the only rules.
What’s messed up is it works so badly it can’t even tell you why you get a penalty and as everyone knows it gets blame wrong all the time.
Where does that leave us?
Sport mode is now WAR.

At least before at release if you kept your 99 you would have almost every race clean. Now if you enter a daily do it on alt and be prepared to get hit by idiots.

Gran Turismo Sport at release held to high ideals of sportsmanship but now it’s no better than Mariokart.
I wish they’d give us guns and missiles too and just admit they’ve completely given up on the ideals they started with.

Standards right now are an all time low.

But seriously this games loses good players because of the deficiency in the pen system.
Good players need rules of some sort.
Regardless of your dr you ought to be able to enter a race AT HIGHEST SAFETY POINTS VALUE and be at least mostly assured of being free from the worst arcade level tossers

Looking at myself I never would have dreamed of hitting another player when I started out.
I’ve played a lot more than most.
Now I’m featured in a video called idiots of the week when I’m fighting the idiot because there’s literally no other recourse I have to stop them from punting me besides quitting the game!

It’s sad

Seems the trick, from what I saw him do, over and over again, is to have some form of contact, as you approach the corner. Seems to throw off the 1.5 second barrier collision penalty.

Yeah, I've seen that in a race this afternoon too - guy was just taking the penalty every lap though! Put him far enough ahead of me each time so that I couldn't catch him at the penalty zone.
 
@NekoPufferPPP I'm avoiding race B this week because of people like you. Want nothing to do with that rubbish. It's not driving.
Yeeeah...blame me, not the game, whatever makes you feel better.

I don't like it being like this either but I can at least see where the fault lies, and it ain't with the people.

Just stay out of race B, maybe lower race numbers will tell PD to investigate why it's like that and figure out the wall problem.
