Glad to have Gr.4 all week. Get to run the SLS and see how it goes before FIA. Sardegna B is the Manu race.

Daily Races next week

Race A - Suzuka East/N300 provided/7 laps/Sports Mediums

Race B - DT Seaside II/Gr.3/4 laps/Racing Mediums

Race C - Sardegna B II/Gr.4/8 laps/Racing Hards/Fuel consumption at 2x and tire wear at 6x
Urrrrughh they are ....not good.

HEre's a decent one from Monza.

  • The red vette on lap 1 confused me, he jinked one way then the next and i tagged him nt know which way to go.
  • I do a great job of clearing the pack then making small errors to let them in again....twice
  • The pass on the yellow vette on the last lap is a cracker
  • The same vette into parabolica, i mean really, what a bonehead move

As an aside, I want to talk about the Audi VGT. What makes it so good around here in particular? It's nothing special down the back straight, it has absurd amounts of wheelspin on acceleration unless you take baby steps, and the downforce doesn't feel as strong as the modern LMP1s. What's giving it the edge here? Is it possible that it's...been good the whole time?
I've been behind a few Audi VGT drivers in the races the past few days, and that thing seems to drive like a drunken cow. Last one was able to hold the middle of the track defensive line and was simply a cork in a bottle until there was enough space for the rest of us to get around. I don't nt think it is very good on tires.
The only thing i can think it might be is the way it handles, its much more like a MR car imo. It turns into corners amazingly, if you do it the right way that is.....and you can lessen the wheel spin by changing up sooner coming out of corners.

In saying all that I've hardly seen anyone use it in a race
I have been using it and am doing better in it than the 908. I cannot manage the SRT Tomahawk.

S5 and S6 - back half of the lap. It flies through those you don't need to lift where other cars require it. Just two light braking sections. I can do the final corner in 5th gear by just lifting though only in qualy. It is worth nearly 1.0 seconds vs braking and downshifting to fourth.

The hybrid power management is very similar to the Audi R18 and is effectively impossible to keep it charged over a whole lap. It was possible at Spa but was extremely difficult. No chance here.

For QT it gets an extra boost for S1 and S2 by fully charging the battery at the beginning of the lap and you cannot do that in a race. That is worth another 0.5 + seconds. The charged battery allows them to dominate at the start of the race.

It will do better in QT than in race trim, more so than other cars.

I confess that I have only done 3 races, all starting from the back, with middling results. I have not been able to translate the hot laps into race pace but that is more me than the car.

Overall I do not know why it does so much better here compared to spa.

Did a Race at Sardegna Total time was 12:55 from last place. That's short. First lap was nearly 2 minutes, all other laps were 1:30s.

Decided not to do any racing just some hotlapping. Ran a 1:46.7 at Monza in the corvette then tried a few different cars at Saint croix struggling to crack a low 2:54 in the Bugatti, McLaren, lm55, Porsche and 787 all pretty much in the 2:54.0-2:54.3 range. Jumped into the Porsche and went straight to a 2:52.9, couldn't beat that in the ts050 or the '11 R18 but as soon as I jumped onto the 908 I dropped it to a 2:52.2.

Haven't tried the tomahawk or the Audi yet but I can't see them being 2-3 seconds quicker to get close to the top 10 times currently sitting at #44 according to gtblade. #138 at Monza think I may find some more time there if I can be bothered there tomorrow.

This is sort of Race C related . . . I thought I would try out the Mazda LM55 VGT and I have to say it is not bad but I think the 908 is easier (and better for me) to control. So went offline into Arcade Single Race mode and tried a race with other AI GR.1 cars - I pulled off the best undercut I have ever done and just had to share it.

The same can happen in online races. Good to see people doing practice laps.
Someone brought out the worst in me again.

I did three sessions of Daily Race C and the first one was where a dirty player just made me brought out my aggressive/dirty side. It all started when the dude in the TS050 did a very aggressive overtake and at first I didn't mind it but as soon as we went to the long straight, he blocked me when I was going to overtake him so from there I just got annoyed and punted him out of annoyance although sadly I ended up collecting the Tomahawk driver as well but it did not stop there as the TS050 player sent the Tomahawk driver onto the grass along with him and from there he quit out of rage.

After seeing how the TS050 blocked both you & the Tomahawk, he deserved the punt. It is too bad that the Tommy was collateral damage.
I want to talk s little about turn 1 at the A racetrack.
I’ve noticed that a lot of players try to go waaaay to the left approaching the turns entry, from the curbing to the runoff to this point right here. In race under attack from a car behind taking this line is a very bad idea.

The reason I bring this up is because I’m certain there’s players who think even if their opponent is on their bumper, that their opponent should stay behind because they think the picture above, where the car is is the turn in point.
Hey, hey, hey now. Don't try to bring logic & training into the conversation here. Numbskulls need a reason to blame other drivers for their lack of skill. 😆
edit also when you see an A plus with message “check my Twitch”
The translation is “I will ram you if you pass”
That is all.
Sounds like they didn't type the full message. "Check my Twitch to see me drive like an asshole."
Daily Races next week

Race A - Suzuka East/N300 provided/7 laps/Sports Mediums

Race B - DT Seaside II/Gr.3/4 laps/Racing Mediums

Race C - Sardegna B II/Gr.4/8 laps/Racing Hards/Fuel consumption at 2x and tire wear at 6x
Race A: nope.
Race B: Just had that combo. Ladies & Gentlemen, start your Mustangs. 😈
Race C: I can't remember the different layouts. Hold on. Starts PS4 Oh....yeah. I recommend doing qualifying laps if you want to have some good finishes. This layout is punt friendly.

After another session of practice, I got a better feel for the track and car. I’m down to a 2:59.3XX! A time under 3 minuets is fantastic seeing I’m new to both Gr.1 and St. Croix. My K-score is a 2:53.1XX and I don’t see shaving that much time off in another day. So, I’ll be a happy little backmarker and try not to get in the way. I’ll still give others a fight, but I’ll back off when I know I’m beat. But, judging on the races I’ve seen on YouTube, keeping the car off the wall and on track should be good enough for a decent finish.

Is 3M/4S the strategy for Race C? Is fuel a concern in the Mazda LM55? I’d be fine losing time for a splash of fuel if I need to.

I also found it difficult to make livery for the LM55. I had the hardest time getting stuff lined up and not looking deformed for the design I use for everything. It looks decent enough and that works for me.
Sub 3 minute. Fast. You will be comfortable racing. Enjoy.

I have not found any issues with fuel in the Audi VGT. I have run with both 4 and 5 laps on soft. 4 laps feels the right amount.

Good luck.

I'm sitting on 22k DR, and I get put into a race with majority A and A+ drivers. How on earth do I cope with that?

The answer, not well at all.

Some horrific bumping, worse than B

Let us not forget one of the similar threads that keeps appearing at the bottom of this thread. Thursday morning we will get an update in order to add the 2022 N class Toyota GR86. Budget your time accordingly.

I'll admit, I thought race C was a dumb combo and I wasn't even thinking about racing it, but it was the most fun I've had in the game for a long time. I originally went in with the idea to just recover SR and get out, but I ran 3 races total this afternoon. I went with the 3M/4S strategy as suggested by @Little_Guppy and it worked great. I could have pushed for 5 on soft tires, but I didn't want to mess up any SR gained by having my worn tires being the cause of getting into the back of someone.

Race 1 was a bit sketchy as I was under real race conditions and I didn't quite know to to react properly. I tagged the wall at some point and got a 1.5 second penalty which was not as impactful as i though it would be. I started P7 and finished P7. The only weird thing was that I got an SR down after leaving the pits. No one was around when I entered or exited, so that was confusing.

Race 2 I start P3 and hang with the top 2 even after slightly running on the grass after the turn after that long "backstretch" after the bridge. I did manage to get into P2 after the driver in front of me got a .5 second off track penalty and some poor driving on their part which allowed me to catch up. Anyway, I enter the turn before the bridge way to hot and spin out. I don't reset, but I drop to P4, which is fine because no SR downs on my behalf. I do finish P3 after the driver ahead got the penalty for not pitting. Hooray!

Race 3 I almost didn't do because I got the SR back to 99, but I was having a blast and went for it. I start P12 and fall back with the faster cars passing me and fighting ahead of me. Now, I'm thinking lets back off and run in the back and not care about the result. Well, as I thought, drivers are going off track, crashing into each other, and spinning out all on their own so I move up a few positions. After I pit, I catch a group of 3 cars fighting and I back off and wait and I get my opportunity One enters the pits, the other gets loose on the first right-hander, and the other gets an off track penalty and I find myself in P6. P2 spins out on lap 6 and rage quits leaving me in P5 in the end!

I would like to thank everyone who has offered advice to me this week as I said, I had tons of fun. I should have focused on this race all week, but I'll be sure to jump into the next Gr.1 race that comes up.

I still haven't done a race, despite having really enjoyed the ten or so laps I did in qualifying. Too many sports distractions on TV plus the Doom Eternal PS5 update. Reading through this thread, I'm now suffering major FOMO. I'll try to race tomorrow. Tonight, it's more Doom and seeing if the Habs get swept.

Next week's Race C looks awful. I really despise the Gr4 races in this game.

Might have to name each corner at Sardegna B II: Punt 1, Punt 2, Punt 3, etc. 😆

I'll be using that race to get comfortable with the SLS before FIA begins. The car is nearly 1500kg, but it does have over 400bhp. Still, I don't like my odds with its acceleration.

I raced two A races this morning.
Up front the competitors were fast and professional.
Great racing with some of the top guys, great to race with great guys.

It was me talking about saving fuel. Do you run it to the rev limiter in 5th gear? It helps with the dead spot in 6th gear but uses a chunk of extra fuel. I short shift when the hybrid power is working the first couple of laps and then it's all good.
I did one more race with the McLaren VGT just to checkout and I did it with the 5th gear. The fuel was on the limit, but I felt I made some turns with a higher gear and I involuntary short shifted some times (just sightly), so maybe this was the reason for my tank lasting the entire race. I finished in the top 10 I think.

Well, I changed to 919 hybrid to see the difference and whoa... it's another world. When I got it right, I smashed my fastest lap done with McLaren VGT by two seconds (went from 2:56 to 2:54). I felt comfortable to push and go over the kerbs. Even with the bb at +5, I could brake latter than in McLaren at -3. Also, more downforce on the turns and better acceleration. No wonder I'm seeing a lot of 919s in the race on my B/S lobbies.

After getting some practice I done three races. The first one I started in a impressive 2nd and played a bit too safe on first braking zone. In the next one, someone in a Audi VGT made the divebomb of the century and I got pushed, almost spun off and went back to 7th, with softs. The race isn't over, let's push and recover positions. In the next couple of corners, made some overtakes on medium drivers, as well the ones running wide. At the end of back straight, 4th already. the 3rd disconnected and I was catching the 2nd (the guy with pushed me wide) until he and the leader, 7 seconds ahead, made their pitstops. I though lap 3 would be too early for the leader to come in (soft tyres, Audi VGT too). Stopped in the next lap and managed to overcut the 2nd (despite he using a fresh set of soft tyres. Karma) and the gap towards the leader was cut to 5 seconds. Then, one of my cats started to walk in the front of tv and I got a bit distracted. Lost 1 second I think, but it was fine, he is a good boy and walked away quickly. Then, the lady lucky went to my side. The leader spun off in the corner before the bridge. Got the lead and was holding a 1s lead until the last lap, when he made a couple of mistakes. Enough to secure a 5s gap and the victory, for the first time in Gr.1 If I remember well. I won one more, leading almost every lap from pole and the other, I made a mistake in turn 3 in the first lap and finished in P-steve.

Overall, this is an amazing combo and too bad the race C in the next week will be a sprint race with Gr.4 and probably a FF domination.

I've not had a chance to do Race C this week, which is a shame because it sounds like it's been a great combo. Only two races earlier in the week (A and B)...

One of my Daily Race C sessions was eventful due to how it was.

So I was put into a grid where fellow GTP user @pennanton was there and I panicked because the top 5 including the aforementioned user were mostly 908s with me being the only player on that top 5 where I'm using a hybrid which was the Porsche 919.

Right off the bat and as expected thanks to the KERS that the 919 has, I was able to get away from T1 mess but as soon as we went to the technical bits of Sainte Croix, I almost spun and lost a huge gap before here when we finally reached the long straight and that's where I got blown away by the 908's straight line speed and from there I had to make sure I'm close enough to the 908 before pitting for a new set of softs.

Once I got into the new set of softs, that's where I pushed my 919 to its limits and managed to make up places. And suddenly a stroke of luck happened, the 908 that was chasing me earlier and took the lead spun out in a corner after the long straight and managed to take full advantage and there I regained my lead.

From there it was just about maintaining a gap of at least 1 sec or more in order to survive the 908's straight line speed on the long straight and this is where I managed to breathe now as the 908 bottled it on the corner before the bridge on the last lap and from there I was on my way to a win. Had he not bottled the corner, I would've tried to survive the 908's onslaught for one last time.

Overall that was one very eventful race that I had to do. It was fun nevertheless.

Well had 2 quiet weeks as Monza this week has been the only one of interest to me and it's too short a race to be really interesting. The Gr.1. race looked good, but I'm bad at them and hardly know the circuit. Hopefully we'll get some really good races soon.
Have you tried running with an automatic transmission in the GR.1 cars? It allows me to control my braking and turn points better because I am not worried about correctly shifting gears (these cars are too fast at times approaching turns).

That's true for me too. Except at the A races with the slower cars, that only need to be shifted a few times per lap. That doesn't bother me much. The really fast cars with lots of gears will mess me up. 😧
Some of the race A cars allow me to do okay with auto trans.
My best end-of-week ranking was #5. It was at Big Willow, in the '09 Porsche, with auto trans. 👍

I just raced @Barra333 for what I think was the first time ever.
First lap was close. On lap 2, he messed up, and I got a big lead. Turn 1 on lap 3, I screwed up big time, and he got the lead.
It was close racing all the way to the end. He's pretty darn good. 🤜🤛

*Probably not a good time of day to race with my Australian account. Only 6 people showed up. I forgot about that. 😆
