Daily races are now WEEKLY races (POLL)

Do you want DAILY races or WEEKLY races?

Man numbers look low. Joining A and B races and seeing just 9 to 13 participants and DR swinging from A through E.

Numbers HAVE to be down.
I'll see if the graph on kudos has been updated yet. Probably not, but will be interesting to see.

They haven't. Daily Sport Mode player count is around 2 weeks behind while Weekly seems to be almost 3. Makes me wonder if they've purposefully pulled them from their web API, or do they always lag behind?

I maybe wrong but yeah, numbers last night seemed down, i am used to, at least in race B, a solid 15+ people and relatively closely clumped DR.

I guess I would be an example of that. I haven't turned my PS4 on in a couple of days, specifically because of the change. Sometimes I'd miss a day, here and there if the car/track combos weren't working for me, now I will be missing entire weeks. Disappointed

Vast majority? Err, no.

Unless you're the most ardent hobbyist, with time and, more importantly, money to burn, most drivers get paid one way or another. For hobbyists that may just mean sponsorship from local businesses thats just about enough to feed their habit, getting them and their car to the next meet. For pro-ams, in proper racing series, that may mean sponsorship and, if they're good enough, prize money. (However, you'll probably find most pro-ams usually have enough spare wedge to play racing driver and not worry about sponsorship/prizes anyway; see Paul Hollywood of The Great British Bake Off for instance.)

Yes, there is going to be fringe cases where a driver may get called up at short notice to drive a track he/she doesn't particularly like, with or without the prospect of getting paid, but it could very well be that the driver owes / or is doing a team boss/owner a favour, or is looking to make a name for themselves and break into something more permanent, so will take the rough with the smooth. (Hell, I'd drive a ride-on lawnmower with no suspension on a track made of cobble stones if it meant I got more regular drives in real racing cars!)

In motorsport, as in life in general, nobody operates at a loss (for too long at least) unless they're independently "wealthy" outside of motorsport or they genuinely believe they're good enough and envisage big pay days in their future. This is as true for hobbyists, dragging their car on a trailer behind a battered old van around the country, as it is for F1 drivers (and teams).

I don't like stupid little Japanese cars or Tsukuba, I love Suzuka and like Gr.4 but I'm not a fan of that combination, and I think St Crock is awful.

What if next week is another stupid little Japanese car (and I guarantee it will be!), a Gr.1 first-corner-SR-destroying-wreck-fest at Monza, and dull-as-dishwater enduro at Blue Moon, all of which I'd avoid like the plague?

Like I said, WEEKS.

No, it doesn't, because the chances of combos you really enjoy coming round have been exponentially reduced. Lets take Race B or Race C as an example:

Those are (usually) Gr.1 - 4 races. With the addition of St. Crock there are now 51 tracks/layouts but as PD don't seem to use every one for Sport Mode lets be generous and say they only use about half that, which, for the sake of simplicity, we'll call it 25. To run through every combination of on a daily schedule would take 100 days. However on a weekly schedule to run the same 25 tracks and every class combination would take 700 days (nearly 2 YEARS!).

Congratulations, you got to do that one combination you really enjoy for a week, or get to do on Wednesday that combination you saw on Monday, but kiss goodbye to it because you may never see it again before GT7 (or 8, or GTSport 2, or whatever its going to called is released) and the servers for GTS are switched off.
Meanwhile those of us who are fortunate enough to have jobs, or lives, which afford us a little more time than most (or the unemployed, or students, etc) potentially have to put up with weeks of stuff we don't like. Brilliant. :banghead:

What PD should have done is publish proper schedules in advance so people can plan ahead (shift/swap days off, send the significant other / kids on a day out, not do that DIY project you've been promising your significant other you'd do for months, fake illness/death etc) if it really mattered that much.

Or, better still, they could have simply added two weekly races to the current line-up, so:
  • Race A - One-make weekly, track change daily.
  • Race B - Daily sprint.
  • Race C - Daily endurance.
  • Race D - Weekly sprint.
  • Race E - Weekly endurance.
This would have satisfied everyone, but oh no, thats waaaaaaaaaaay too simple for PD.

If PD was one of those companies that has a strap-line/motto on their logo it would be this:

The sport racing will really be reduced for players like me. I rarely do any sport mode races besides race C, just too much crashing in a short 4 lap race cause everyone needs to be in the lead exiting T1 L1. There could potentially be 3-4 weeks that I go without touching sport mode now. I also think the new track St. Crap or whatever they call it really sucks . I ran 2 practice laps on race B this week to feel the alleged new tire model, I suspect that will be the extent of my sport mode racing this week, thanks PD.

Since it still says "Daily Races" on all of the menus and this wasn't mentioned anywhere in the update log (and hasn't been acknowledged on social media, that I'm aware of), I'm going to stick with the theory of it being an accident because someone forgot to change them.

So, I have been almost a month away from this game, then I come back and this + microtransactions is what I'm greeted to?

Why even make this change but still leave it with only 3 options for races instead of 6???

Dear lord, did this update brought rain at least?

They did the same thing to GT6 with the challenges, when they devoted more resources and time to GTSport.

So on the plus side this may mean PS5 and the next iteration of GT is closer at hand... Pure speculation, of course ;)

The difference is though that they get paid and they may only have to do it over the course of, at most, a few hours a weekend. If I was getting paid to drive a race car I'd most certainly take the rough with the smooth, no problem!

Here we're the ones paying and shouldn't face weeks of being possibly subjected to crap we don't like, in our own homes too!

Yes, Yes, I know, I could go find a lobby or do a custom arcade race but I don't find lobbies as competitive as they're consequence free (especially with ghosting: real cars don't 🤬 ghost!) and the AI in arcade races is still, after 21 years of trying, nothing but a sad joke without a punchline. Its the definition of insanity; doing the same thing over and over again expecting it to change! :banghead:
We paid money to drive. So, let's say we're "pay drivers". Many of those drivers don't race on top level teams anyway. They'll still be mid-field and back markers. Hence, they drive what's available.

Anyway, how bad some feel about this change in Sport Mode, it's not the end of the world.

I'm having a great time with the weekly races. I'm a D level, now I have the reassurance of 5 (or 7, not sure) days to work a good qualy trial. Yesterday, after 1 hour of testing I got a good lap in Suzuka with the Ferrari and went for a race, started 4 finished 2nd

I know that today I can sit and improve my time to perhaps get pole, test other cars etc etc. I love this change

Probably the worst thing to happen to GTS so far.
Once the new feeling of the DLC wears off there'll barely be a reason to get on every day other then casual racing in lobbies.
No more hoping on daily to commit my full effort to the challenge of a daily race against the best the community has to offer.

Ive been fairly satisfied with the game up till now but this really hits me hard atm.
Im actually depressed! :indiff:

I actually like this one, you can actually finding best day to play and finding best time around week especially with new tire physic it need new adaptation. If the system not like this maybe I'll finding adaptation time more harder, and again I can pass this one without worry I can't join my favorite race anymore.

But yeah more nice if they make other 3 slot that the true daily races for OMR, B and C then run along with current one.

Yeah, so actually what happens is that people spend alot more time on qualifying and less on racing. What were they thinking.. I hate qualifying. I run a few laps at most and then start racing. Which was fine for dailies, but now I start further backwards every day.

They haven't. Daily Sport Mode player count is around 2 weeks behind while Weekly seems to be almost 3. Makes me wonder if they've purposefully pulled them from their web API, or do they always lag behind?

These general data polls on K' are made manually, when i do them. Usually the Monday, most of the time one Monday every two weeks. With all the updates i had to do, i didn't make one this Monday to not overload the K' server (it uses lot of resources). I'm aware that the next time will be very interesting to look at. But i refrain to pull the trigger too early just by curiosity, especially since the new patch have probably drawn more players than usual into the game, rendering a week-to-week comparison for the first days of this week not that useful.

The weekly need an actual week to be considered, so it could appear to lag behind.

The event page (which by the way i just saw it shows the next week 3 races) is updated automatically.
Note that for closed events, you can easily see how many players posted a time in a given regional board in the ranking section, and how this numbers are different from game release to 9 months later.

This is good to know, sir. Thank you for the information. 👍

Edit: By the way, by "I wonder if they've purposefully pulled them from their web API" I meant PD cutting access to that information, not any action on your part. Apologies if you perceived that to be a suggestion of something you had done.

I quickly found those stats, they are a great addition as I was always intrigued to know exactly where I came in the regional ranking after the top 10 (I'm never in the top 10 unless I'm one of the first to post a quali time!:lol:)

I understood the way you meant it ;)
I didn't get into the details, but there's no API data related to general stats, they are custom built based on individual player profiles, PD couldn't selectively cut access here.

Suzuka and Tsukuba have been nudge and divebomb fests for me today. Not a fan of both with the current car configurations. At least on Monday there's Nurburgring to look forward to. But I can definitely see emptier lobbies and lower driving standards appearing.

Awesomeness /S
