Damage only in WRC and NASCAR?

We saw damage in the WRC part of the E3 demo. I would say it's somewhat of a safe bet that there will be damage in that part of the game. How many different WRC cars are there?

ALL the cars in NASCAR are the same car with different paint jobs. Just One Car.

My point. You could have damage in WRC and NASCAR and that would only cover a small fraction of the total cars. That should make it much, much easier to do a realistic job on damage!

What a great way to introduce damage into a game with nearly 1,000 cars.

Yeah it's better than nothing if you will be spending plenty of time with NASCAR, but I'm European and it'll be the same as any other event for me. Therefore I'll hardly play on damage events at all except for rally.

I think I'm on my own when I say that I'd rather have mechanical damage only on all cars than proper, ultra-realistic damage in just WRC and NASCAR.

oh so you had a chat with KY and he told you that there was damage ONLY on nascar and wrc? what else do you know about GT5 that no one else does?

I don't really get what's your point. :odd: But I think we can all believe there is damage on every car. In many interviews Kazunori told about damage in the game, but NASCAR and WRC were a surprise for E3. Just don't think Polyphony Digital is that stupid to only add damage to NASCAR and WRC! In GT4 there were many Nissan Skylines: You got the normal one, the GT-R, the safety car for driving lessons, the skyline racecar... etc. But I hope they don't count every NASCAR paint as another car. Then it will be easy to reach 1000 cars...

You should have heard what KY said about you!

Did you see the question mark in the title of this thread??

I would be very disappointed if damage was only on NASCAR and WRC. Only racecars is fine but not only NASCAR and WRC.

Also postulated is that Damage *could* only be in races where there is only 1(/2) vehicle(s) on track at a time due to processing levels...

There is precedent on this too...

This has got to be complete rubbish. Frankly, if I were in Kaz's shoes, I wouldn't see the point of having damage on only one or two kinds of racing, or only in time trials, etc.

And, I mean, we all know that PD has an all-or-nothing attitude, right? I would rather have no damage at all than only on a few cars. If damage IS going to be in GT5, I think it's going to be a safe bet that it's for all the cars, modes, etc.

Most likely, damage will be for all race cars.

Whether we will see any for road cars is uncertain.

oh come on.......I'm sure we'll have damage for every single car in the game
if not, gran turismo 5 would be just a beta...and we don't need another one...

I can see that there may be a need to modify the car models to allow for damage and depending on how they do the damage it may need to be modeled itself. Thus I can see the possibility that cosmetic damage may only be on certain cars. Only NASCAR or WRC would be a mistake as I am sure that many people are not planning on racing either.

It is also possible that they can only model damage on one car on the tack at a time. In that case it may even be better just to leave it out for now as I am sure that PD would get a lot of flack for it.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

When I watched the trailer and saw the Nascar spinning and then the damage on the WRC I thought it might be limited to those particular events. I think that PD will go all out to get the damage as realistic as possible, which sadly may mean that the standard production cars are exempt at this time.

Everyone refers to production time and it may seem like ages (enough time to damage model every car alongside the standard model) but we don't really know what PD have been concentrating on.

I have to admit that Turn 10 Studios are at least pioneers in negotiating with car manufacturers, because, in their only two games, they've reached something that Polyphony Digital haven't in more than ten years - introducing car damage in games for commercial cars also. I have no idea how they did it, but I think the manufacturers had to change their mind in relations with any games developers. And Kazunori has pretty great ace up his sleeve - Gran Turismo series sold around 50 millions copies worldwide.

Don't you want to advertise your products in our game? All right, we can live without your support, cause we made a deal with your challengers. (fictional monologue)

I guess there is no more a reason to not include damage model on every single car. I'd be disappointed if I were wrong.

If the production cars don't have proper damage, then I really hope they at least have PROPER COLLISION PHYSICS.

Exactly.

And just because it showed damage on the WRC part, doesn't mean that it will ONLY be on WRC.

Just because they've only just told us about damage with this trailer, doesn't mean they've only just started working on it. For all we know, they could have been damage-modeling the new cars ever since day one of GT5 development... which would have been after GT4 was finished. Which was 2005.

From my view, we're either going to have damage on all cars, or no damage at all. I just would not see the point of some vehicles having damage, and others not.

Just to play around a bit as is this thread.

Since we will have the Indy500 track then we will have damage with the Indy cars.
Yeah its a rumour the Indy cars but the track is realy in. So will the cars show-up and with damage?

Since when was there a rumour about Indy Cars being included in GT5? :odd:

Beleave me I would be very happy with that. In fact its just a rumuor that started during/within the E3 show.
Or probably a USA dude that messed up and picked F1 cars for Indy ones. Who knows.
The fact is that it was rumuored during E3.

I doubt it. If lesser games like Grid can implement damage, I'm sure that Kaz & the team can implement damage on all race cars as well as road going cars.

Havent Read all Thread But, i think that it might be in all cars just because...OPM wouldnt show a Wrecked Mr-S as a promo for the preview and then saying yeh, we put a road car but actually it doesnt have any damage on road cars.. just My Opinion, i may be wrong Though

Can anyone give me a link to this picture? Would love to see it.

Thanks for the pic. I never read too much into things, it tends to lead to disappointment. Guess we'll find out when the magazine gets released.

I don't think you can draw a conclusion from it though.
Well... it's kind of hard not to draw a conclusion from it though. I mean, if it had been a race car, the mystery would have remained intact. But a street car? This just causes all kinds of notions. Prior to this pic, I'd say the safe bet would be full damage on race cars and none or light on street cars, but now... who knows. Fortunately, time is passing.

WRC/NASCAR/Racecars sounds about right to me.
Sounds about right to me too. Can you imagine if KY actually tried to implement damage to every single car in the game? That would probably be close to 1,000. You think its taking long now to get this game out, it would take much longer to to do it for every single car. I just dont see that happening. :dunce:
