Dictionary of Stupid Censored Words

For some, perhaps. Personally I find it much much more annoying. My ears can handle the language people use, and I hear from plenty of annoying people and complete jerks who can easily be so without using any "bad language" and I find them to be every bit as bothersome as the idiot potty-mouth. And then you add the fact that if people want to swear in text chat the system in no way stops them from doing so. All it does is make normal conversation much more cumbersome than it needs to be.

You can still swear using text chat - just put spaces in between the letters of the offending word. Like f, u, c (you get the idea). Hardly a swear word because it's just a bunch of letters.

That's what I was getting at. Rather defeats the only defensible point of having a swear/unpleasantness filter.

I understand that some people don't like having to see or hear the words that other people use, and that it is apparently considered acceptable to block some of the forms of expressing some of the words that some of the people don't want to see or hear. But since it doesn't (and never can) truly work anyway, there's no reason to not simply have the filter as an option on the recieving end for people who do or do not wish to use it. That way, the one who feels uncomfortable hearing such horrible language as "disconnected" doesn't have to, and no one else needs to be bothered.

Yes, the PS3 and online services are open to minors to use with their parents' consent, but they are not restricted for use by minors only, so the "think of the children" argument doesn't really work. Unfortunately, the "our lawyers are afraid of people who might enjoy complaining and we don't want to spend a few extra minutes making things more pleasant for everyone" argument always does.

I'm sure I've said it before and I'll eventually say it again, until it doesn't need to be said. :)

They should just block words for users under a certain age! If a user is 12 for example, if I (being say, 30) type anything into the box it'll show up to anyone except that, or those, persons.

That would be, in my opinion, the best solution and stop this censorship madness! I can't type LSD? Really? They use that term in the game, com on!

I don't get the meaning behind X3...?

Well it's a boobies emoticon!

I know, who in their right mind is going to type Limited Slip Differential with their controller/wheel? Nonsense!

It's not a excuse... Basically you only saw the part kicking foreigners in my comment and nothing about lagging. If they are foreigners and they are not lagging then I won't kick them but WHY would I not kick a foreigner that is making the whole room lag...It's common sense Kick the lagger > Room lag free. For example I'm in a american drag racing team (I'm in NZ) do I kick him when I'm dragging with him...No I don't~!

I understand that, but, hey, free internet improvements is always a good thing anyways. You could still call your ISP, "why is it so slow? I'm not paying for this garbage."

If i'm honest, I never knew that... I thought it was a face like a cat... I'm now currently looking back on all the people I have sent that to and all of them have horrified faces! :ouch:

Came across a new one the other day. Can't say "tape-delay" as in the Rolex race this last weekend. We eventually narrowed it down to the "pe-de," after thinking it might be the "e-d" but that is allowed as are both words. Possibly a derivation of "pedo?" Not sure, but I don't see anything too similar in the recent list. I'm also not sure if we tried e-de or -de now that I think about it, but pe-d works.

^^ I never knew that was anything but a cat face myself.

Well the word "pedo" is definitely blocked. I once changed my entry comment to "I'm a registered pedo" for fun but alas, only a row of asterisks showed up. :(

...For example the German word 'nicht' (= not) gets censored, very annoying as you mention it often in usual conversations. Wondering what the bad thing is about nicht?
Nicht means neice in Dutch and is a gay term used to describe an effeminate male, a queen.
