Why would someone with a Cooper, not even an S, park in two spots?

Because a low speed turn in on a MINI can be a little bit rough. I know you've just bought one of these, but dude **** those things have like no powersteering at low speeds. It's like going back to the dark ages.

Also, the gear shifting is rough and the rear is bouncy. Enjoy your MINI though. :sly:

Oh and it is an S. Unless he bought an aftermarket exhaust kit which is sad and punishable by law in my perfect world.

Why would someone do that with a Mazda 3?

Two days ago I went with my dad to uni, and unfortunately... There's a huge rock-concert that night. Disregarding the fullness, 3 idiots managed to park so terribly they took up 6 spaces. We were forced to park across the campus.

There is no way it can be as worse then the Blazer, which was like trying to turn the Titanic.

I got this. a) These people attend rock concerts and are therefore anarchists.

What no b)? No.

Granted. I am kidding about the MINI though, I think it's a fabulous car to drive.

I know people with expensive cars who park like that. It's to avoid parking dents and scratches caused by other people (think door slams, people brushing up against the car with zippers, keys and whatnot). Most people won't leave a note on a Ferrari they just scratched as they know Rossa Corsa or Daytona Nero doesn't come very cheaply.

You have to realise that apart from the driving, owning an expensive car downright sucks. I posted a picture of an Arnage not too long ago (the one with the 1.6 TDI sticker), that car was purchased in January. Since then a rock was thrown forcefully at the rear window. The caps on the rims (with the Bentley logo) were stolen... twice. The screwcaps on the tire inflators were ripped (they're chrome so people want them). The front bumper was dented (presumably by someone kicking at it), it's been keyed and last not but not least the front emblem has recently been pried off with a screwdriver leaving some really nasty damage. The owner of the car has accepted it and says 2 to 3 thousand euro's worth of estethics repairs bi-monthly is just something he's now taking into account next to taxes, insurance and fuel as he refuses to become an anal car owner.

I've presented this argument on numerous occaisions to this bunch, and they won't hear it. My theory is, if you're car's expensive enough to be two cars, you deserve two parking spots - because any DAMAGE to your car is going to be worth double (or more) what it is on a normal car.

For those of you who don't think supercars deserve two parking spots, I point you to this thread, on FerrariChat - or simply to register there and search posts on this topic (the vehicle discussed in that thread, though mentioned to be a Ferrari 575, is actually a 575 Superamerica).

Yeah well I don't think it's a matter of deserving two spots, I merely sympathise for this. Even apart from the costs, dealing with "supercar damage" (that's how we'll call it) isn't like calling up your local Volvo dealership for a splash and dash on a rim your mother ****ed up on a curb ahem.

Dealing with exotic car dealerships sucks the hard one in general. They're slow. Everything needs to be ordered. They're always a two hour drive away. You don't want them to drive your car. AGONY.

What's this "crease" they speak of?

It's ridiculous the way some folk park....

Did you slip and fall whilst taking a picture of that chimaera?

Also, that dumb Mondeo started it. That's right, dumb. OH NO WAIT UK, WHY NOT BUY ANOTHER EIGHT BAZILLION OF THOSE.

I may not have a picture but i did see something good yesterday.

I was at my job and went to the front desk because a coworker of mine was talking to somebody (I was just interested). We talked and he seemed like a nice guy (looked about 18 or so). As he left I was joking with my coworker about her buick, and she said "you should see his car, it's like some old 50's car or something" The minute she said that i bolted out the door too see this older car she was talking about.

To my surprise it was a karmann ghia. I ran over, complemented him on it, and he was completely shocked. He asked how i knew what it was, and i of course said that i'm a car guy, but i mostly know it from gran turismo. You don't see one of those every day. The sad thing is, I bet i was the first person, not only of my age, that went up to him and knew what it was.

Well apparently there is a Veyron in the area, my buddy called me to inform me he saw one on M-24 yesterday, black and red. My only guess is that it might have been Roger Penske who I guess comes up here from time to time. Anyone know where one can go to check there sorts of things?

However I do live near VAG American Headquarters and they toys in from time to time so it might have been that. Who knows, I'm going to be hunting around this week, but seriously it was odd, a cold Saturday night in a boring area of Michigan.

There used to be and may still be one, a VW Karmann Ghia that is, parked consistently outside of Owen Field on campus, though this one was a complete beater and just in pitiful shape. It was always a sad sight to see what can be a good looking car look so bad. I may have to take a walk by there tomorrow to see if it is still being driven.

Not wanting to start the parking argument again, but I'm not parking an extra kilometer away from where I want to be because some guy in a Ferrari has taken up 2 spots. Just because you buy an expensive car doesn't give you right over us less fortunate folk. If you don't want your car to be dinged then don't park it in a shopping centre in peak time.

Also if you have a Ferrari you can probably afford to get the dints out of the door/paint anyway. Getting a nice dint out of my car would cost me almost a quarter of it's worth, a repair job is something not everyone has the luxury to afford.

Buying a car entitles you to own that car.

Paying for two parking spaces entitles you to two parking spaces.

If you can afford an exotic then you can afford to pay for the damage - in the same way that if you can afford a Vauxhall Astra you can afford to pay for any damage. Stingy and arrogant rich folk - that's all it is.

You don't have to be rich to be an inconsiderate moron:

Incidentally, the Aston was parked fine.

That is such a strange argument though. Most expensive car owners I know aren't exorbitantly rich in any way, they're mostly just passionate about cars and quite maticulous about the costs.

If you can afford $200k/£100k+ for a play thing, you can likely afford to pay for any small dints/scratches that any parking incident may cause. If you are passionate and maticulous about your valuble car then you probably shouldn't be parking it in a supermarket car park in the first place.

This is presumably the mindset of the person who lovingly did this to my car in my staff car park the other day:

Despite me being parked as far back in my space as possible, slap between the lines...

And they didn't leave a note.

Ouch that sucks Famine. I'm thinking most of the time they don't even notice they've hit another car.

Then you also deserve a jacka** to tear your car up.
When will double-spacers realize they're not protecting their car? All they're doing is waiting for the moment someone snaps and then really dents their car.

I'll take the risk of 1 dent to many dents, thank you.

About a year ago i was sat in my car in my local supermarket car park having a spot of lunch. There was an empty bay next to me that some old bloke was attempting to pull into. First he clipped my bumper, enough of a 'clip' to rock the car, then he clashed wing mirrors - folding mine back (undamaged) and his forward (probably damaging his) He then managed to scrape his car down the side of mine (my rubbing strip against his body work) before leaving his car at a jonty angle and not enough room for me to open my door. During this time i was sat there flabbergasted at the unfolding idiocity, while this bloke was totally unaware of any wrong doing! - i felt like i was in a slow-motion car crash whilst he seemed blissfully unaware of what he had just done. I even made eye contact with the guy as he got out and headed into the store - he just looked back at me blankly!

I was that stunned that i couldn't move (i couldn't have got out anyway!) so i just left it at that. When i got back to work i checked my car and there was a few scratches and some cracked plastic on my bumper - but it didn't matter since i'd already bought a new car and my old car was going to be scrapped at the end of the week, but christ, some people just shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a car.

Well, I did see something pretty rare Saturday.

I was invited to do the Taste of Lexus at Texas Stadium, in which I basically just drove new models. In short, the LS600hl is big, but can turn, and has amazing backseats. The GS350 is fast as is the IS350, & the ES is pretty good.

But the one badass car was the white IS-F. The V8 in that thing is loud, and the car can perform. Honestly, I love it. The press pictures showed a very big bodykit, but after seeing it in person, it's actually quite small. Depending on the price of one come Jan., I might just consider replacing the 3 with one.

red 340r is normally always there, its owned by the guy that drove the elise into the front of the black leon a couple of trackdays back.i remember more pictures next time then
forgot to say, spoke to the owner of the 340r more on saturday, turns out it was the guy that hit my mates leon and that he was racing in the spa 24hr race in a 911 and won thier class. At the end of the day he had a huge truck in the car park and was loading up 3 lotus's into it

I know of at least one Veyron in Michigan for certain (blue and black, rarely driven) and probably at least two more.

 That doesn't mean you should have to.

 That doesn't mean you should have to.

It doesn't mean that you should have to pay for repairs if someone dings/scratches your Metro in a car park either. The value of the car is totally irrelevant. :odd:

Our family's Peugeot costs twice as much as that Daihatsu Charade across the street. The Mitsubishi Lancer costs twice as much as our Peugeot, while the Lancer EvoIIV costs three times as much as all combined.

So the Charade gets one space, we get two, the Lancer gets four and the EvoIIV gets 28 spaces. Right, makes sense.
