apparently Hong Kong isn't the only place where people will leave their exotica parked in the party district at night.

Sorry about the photo I only had my crappy cellphone with me and I may have been a little intoxicated at the time :)

It's Christmas, we'll let you off! At least you got a photo, which is more than can be said for me reg. the Superleggera yesterday :ouch:

I was just tidying up the contents of my work computer. Did I ever post any of these? I don't think so.

What is this? It looks like a Chinese State limousine, but I have no idea.

EDIT: I found out about the car... It's a Hongqi CA770 Presidential Limousine!

The Hongqi CA770 was a close imitation of the ZIL. Equipped with a 5.7 litre V8 delivering 220 bhp, and a two speed automatic gearbox, this 2.5 tonne monster could, in the hands of someone brave enough, achieve speeds of approaching 100mph. These leviathans are still produced in small numbers for top officials, often furnished inside with purple seats with gold borders!

Pure quality for the highest bidder :sly:

Funny spot tonight:

911_turbo_snow-122707.jpg

I normally don't photograph 911s, even 911 Turbos like the one pictured, but I thought this was a hilarious spot - under a blanket of snow, surrounded by even more snow, and at 2:15am. Someone's six-figure supercar is pretty unloved!

Ha! Great photo there!

More on my Hong Qi: Apparantly between the 1950's-1960's there were only 100 Hong Qi state limos prduced (these being in various models too) so that means this particular model, even without the official prioduction numbers, may be one of the rarest cars I've ever seen on the road, roundly beating my 1 of 50 Bentley and Murcielago.

Thanks! And as for you, keep the spots coming! Especially the loudly-colored Ferraris!

PS - you will always be chaser_fan to me. :D

Will do, Doug! I'm off to Macau today for a day out. The Grand Prix isn't on but the amount of money flowing through the casinos there now means there has to be some potential of a good spot or two.

PS - Had to change my name. It was really beginning to irritate me!

Well I have to say that I seriously don't think he'll encounter much trouble climbing out of that pile. Sure, the car is a snowplow, but it's mean powerful and AWD. He'll blast right through it!

Do people spotting cars in this thread still need a picture to validate their claim?

As per the rules on the first page, yes you still need a photo even if it's from a camera phone. I've seen quite a few nice cars but without a photo I don't even bother posting them because there is no proof.

Last night:

Now he'll encounter some trouble.

or he could just reverse

It's at least a fifteen minute brush off job before you can even get in, and then you've got to get the car started. The main problem is that it now dips far below freezing every night, so the snow which has been plowed around the car turns to ice, meaning you can't move it out at night (unless you shovel it first) - only during the day when it loosens up a little. I've got another date tonight so I'll be able to report if it's still there when I go by on my drive home.

15 mins to brush off snow? what are you using! 5 mins tops as long as you can see where your going, the 996 turbo has no problems starting even from below freezing which is what our weather has been like recently and just stick it in reverse and no problem, unless your not including a massive snow bank behind him then he has no issues getting out of there.

My car was left for 4 days & nights during which the temperature never went above freezing, even at midday, and it started first time and it's a 9 year old car with French/Italian electronics. I was impressed.

I would say 15 min at least to make it safe , that looks like a good 3 or 4 inches of which a part is probably ice. and with a car that low with tires that wide, trying to get over refreeze covered with powder, I would imagine the owner will be smart enough not to try and risk it.

Well, first he's got to get the snow removal tools. Presuming those are in the front of the car, he's screwed, because the huge snow bank at the front of the vehicle makes it impossible to get in there.

So, he'll have to use his hands to clean off the window to the point where he can get in the car and back it up a couple inches. So, let's say he does that. Then he gets in to the front and gets the tools.

Next you're looking at doing the lights, front and rear, and the glasshouse, which is larger on a 911 than on most cars because you have to do everything, or else you won't be able to see. Since it's been there a couple days, the lower layer of this stuff is going to be ice. That right there is going to take ten minutes, in addition to the time spent getting access to the stuff that removes the snow.

Then, you're going to have to shovel the stuff behind it, if you're going to remove the car during freezing temperatures, because as stated it turns to ice when it's cold. There's no shovel in the area - the car is parked at the owner's business, not place of residence.

This all presumes the car will start up.

Great shots of the Carrera GT and F1 in snow. 👍

I wonder which is worse in below-freezing temperatures, an air cooled or water cooled engine. I don't think starting will be an issue though since my gf's 30 year old diesel will start at very low temperatures without the block heater plugged in, I think it's all a matter of letting the car warm up enough.

I'm sure it will start, but if this is any representation of the care given to the car on a normal basis, it may not. For the record, the owner also owned a BMW Z8 followed by a Ferrari 360 Spider directly before the 996 Turbo.

what about these guys?

The 2nd one was actually the owner moving it into another garage. And I'm sorry, but I do not remember the owner's name on AutomotiveForums (it was mentioned here by a moderator when he was offering rides) to validate that.

The 1st however, just looks like a car coming off an uncovered carrier. But I might be wrong.

Today I finally saw a black Lamborghini Diablo! These things are super-rare in Australia, and it's possibly my greatest sighting ever. Other than that, I also saw a C5 Corvette Convertible (another rare car in Aus).

Has anyone ever seen the episode of Fifth Gear when the guy drives his brand new MC-12 in the snow and stacks it into the tyre wall. I wonder if I can dig it up on YT.

btw thanks for the comments Franz, and this is my actual nickname so it seems a lot more relevent than the somewhat silly chaser_fan
