Found a cool new way to share my pics. So all these Ferraris I saw yesterday afternoon. Highlights obviously were the yellow Superamerica and the three identical but separate 599 GTB's. Just a shame I couldn't get a better picture of the SA. Apologies if a couple are repeats going in the opposite direction.

Great shots as always! Love the Superamerica!

Yeah good eh! I've seen (and managed to phoograph) 3 SA's in Hong Kong now. A red one, a black one and now this yellow one.

Yellow's a tough color on those - extremely rare.

I'm quite surprised at how many 308s and 328s you see. The new Ferraris are so common with everyone, but the 308s and 328s are really enthusiast-only cars. You seem to see them quite often in a place much more crowded with the wealthy (who would steer clear of the hard-to-drive, generally not particularly valuable, old Ferraris) than car enthusiasts.

While there are a lot of new money, show off the wealth types in HK, as in any wealthy city, I think that there are rather a lot of enthusiasts here too. Culturally people seem to be big collectors of things and appear to have particular interests in niche subjects. It's nice to see the older cars getting driven regularly and keep in good condition. It must be the warm weather we get all year round!

I'm certain the warm weather is a factor - how was Macau?

Wasn't the 308 the most produced Ferrari of all time? Their relative low value is also why they seem to be enthusiast cars - they've always had the "me too" Ferrari image associated with them.

At the time the 308 was built, it was the most produced Ferrari of all time, but it was surpassed significantly by the 360, which will be surpassed by the F430.

For such a city of such massive growth in the last two years and China's Playground tag, I was really disappointed by the cars there. I've been a few times before, but I thought that with all the new money generated by the likes of Sand's, MGM Grand, The Venetian casinos, the cars would have become increasingly exotic. The most expensive car I saw was the Maybach 57S and the quickest I can't even remember. To give you a good idea, I saw only one Porsche! The cars they do drive their are quite cool and they tend to go for little runabouts though (something to do with the Portuguese heritage maybe), it's all Suzuki Swifts, Starlet Turbos and original Mini Coopers. Very different to Hong Kong.

 I meant the vacation, but it's always nice to hear about cars too.

You and I should one day take a trip - together - to Monaco during Grand Prix week, when we're getting older, at which point we'll see every car we could ever possibly wish to see and, following that trip, retire from car spotting forever. :D

Aye, that and/or Dubai! I don't think they make memory cards big enough for that trip!

Yeah, can you imagine Dubai?

I hear they have flying Gallardos.

SPEAKING OF WHICH

Since by now everyone has seen the video of the Gallardo flying over the speed bump in Dubai, I thought I'd follow up. These photos are the aftermath:

Many expats from HK end up going to or visiting Dubai. I have a couple of friends with family there. Might be worth a trip in the not too distant future!

Hong Kong strikes me as very similar to Dubai: rich, but not in a rich general area; lots of foreigners; lots of foreign money; lots of nice cars; a culture that doesn't really equal the culture of the general vicinity... but I've always thought Dubai is really the most over-the-top example of all of these things.

I think that's a pretty astute observation about Hong Kong, Doug.

If I recall correctly, the city got in a bit of trouble because of that. Apparently, this guy wasn't the first to do damage to his car and the city was blamed for not putting up any signs.

Have you been to Singapore? I'm interested in someday in the not so distant future visiting both places.

The story goes that the city installed the speed bump and didn't tell anyone, but I'm not sure if they got in trouble or not. The Gallardo appears to be completely destroyed.

That sounds about right. 👍

The cracked windshield is a bit of a surprise though. Wonder how it managed that.

Only as far as the airport. Lots of expatriate families are leaving HK to work there as the air pollution blowing over from China into HK is terrible now. Me, I love it here. Heck, I knock days off my life from carbon-monoxide inhalation every time I stand on those bridges!

Not only were there a lot of Prancing Horses out yesterday, those chaps from Stuttgart were doing there best to get noticed too...

Spot of the day - Porsche 911 GT2 (Note the 911 GT badge and gold/silver split rims. I'm ending my 2007 on a high and I'm saying this is the real deal!)

More later...

By the way, does anyone know how many 993 GT2's they made? I wonder how rare of a spot that was.

Between 200-250, I think.

Good effort!

Production from 8/95 to 7/96 (model year 1996):
GT2 - worldwide: 202.

Production from 8/97 to 7/98 (model year 1998):– worldwide: 21.

Total:- 223

I always assumed there were more than that made. Bonus!

doesnt look like a real one, doesnt have the rivets on the widebody kit :sly:

Was there a mob hit going on? What the hell is a Fleetwood doing in Scotland without some kind of mob activity?

well it was in paisley which could explain that......

Awww, sucks. I've never even been to FreeImageHost, either.

It seems you can't see them that obviously anyway. Below definitly is a real one and they're hard to pick out. Oh, I'm so going to cry if it isn't...

you can spot them a mile off on a real GT2,especially on the front arch.do you have more pictures of it?

Unfortunately not. I was waiting an age for it to come back the other way, but it obviously had other plans. You would think that anyone doing a GT2 conversion, down to the correct badging and wheels would at least use the bolt-on arches.

ive seen a couple of conversion, one regularly with which had a GT2 bodykit fitted by porsche and that didnt have the rivets on it although the archs were fitted more flushly than that one appears to be.

BTW whats the s class merc in the 993 carrera picture? dont think its a brabus but it does look like a nice kit!
