Well, I can't say I saw anything good...

I did see just how ugly the new GMT900 Escalade is though...Good job GM! Ignorant rich people will buy them up by the dozen!

To be fair, I haven't been past the BMW dealership in a while, so they may have had the M5 for a while, but I haven't noticed one, though I haven't been out and about as often as I usually am.

Considering I've seen a 360, an F430, a 308GTSi, and a 348 all at the same stoplight right near my house within a month of each other, we've got some nice stuff around here.

996 GT3, 997 Cabrio, 914, Cayman S, 944 up the street, a 928 around the corner, NSX in the complex, also a last year Supra.

Saw an Elise the day they were released in America, seen three since.

Just never caught an M5 driving, odd that.

Talk about things turning up when you least expect them

I was going to a local gig and 2 awesome cars rolled past. 1 before I went in and one after.

First was a beautiful blue Elise 111R, I've forgotten how good they look in teh skin  It's been a while.

And leaving I saw (and heard) a lovely TVR T350C. Haven't seen such a new TVR for a while

I saw the new 997 series 911 Turbo.

Also saw the the Aston V8 Vantage. It looks great in pictures, but my god it looks even better in person.

I'm not going to get in a head-to-head discussion with you, but let's just say I document all my sightings with photographs, and yours don't come close.

Moving on. Today's catch:

agd-360brix.jpg

July 21, 2006 - Denver, Colo.

Not bad, but owned by the owner of the restaurant it's parked next to, so it's not exactly uncommon to see down there. Still - I hadn't seen this particular one yet this summer.

The real highlight of my evening:

agd-128mph.jpg

I wanted to hit 140 tonight but I chickened out - I've now done 100 or better on every interstate in Colorado; my absolute top speed was 130 in December 2004.

What car are you in, M5Power?

aeh-tow.jpg

That would be the sex god otherwise known as the 1996 Volvo 850 Turbo (850 T5 in the UK). It's ugly and it's unreliable, but it's quick (7.1sec 0-60), powerful (222hp), and fast (140mph is indeed its "official" top end). And it's safe. And it was a steal. And it's now officially for sale. What a first car it was.

Your first car pulling off a 7.1 0-60 time?

That's awesome. 👍

Come hang around the Germantown area of Memphis, absurdly nice cars out here.

Saw a new Jaguar XK...or was it a Ford Taurus...

I would get a Camera-phone, but that would require getting a cellphone, which would enable people to find me, and I hate most people.

The only problem is following it up - I want my next car to be quicker, more powerful, and newer than the Volvo - not easy. I could get a Mustang or Camaro but I want to keep it classy, which is proving difficult. I'm considering the '97 BMW 740i, which has 282hp and does 0-60 in 7, so that should work, if I can find one at the right price. I won't be buying for 11-13 months so it shouldn't be too hard though.

Just trust me - this isn't an argument you want to have with me, unless you value losing.

Spectacular day today - not seeing supercars, but seeing rare variants of normal cars, which is the sort of day I enjoy having every once in a while. The six rare ones:

age-all.jpg

July 22, 2006 - Denver, Colo.

From the top: the C36 AMG was only made from 1995 to 1997 and was AMG's first model in the United States (though it's successor, the C43 AMG, made from '98 to '00, is rarer). The Lancer Sportback is the rarest car in this photo, having been manufactured for model year 2004 only. Sales were split evenly between the base model and the Ralliart model, which this one is. Cayenne base has been discussed in this thread; I've seen three this week. Passat W8 is super-rare, though the sedan version shown is a bit more common. The rarest version of the X5, the 4.6is is shown; it was sold for only two years ('02 and '03). And any MkIV Supra is rare - this one had the tag MYSUPRA.

Highlight of the day, though, was this gem:

age-cl6001.jpg

July 22, 2006 - Denver, Colo.

The current CL-class is sort of rare, with the bigger-engined models being rarest, but back when this was out (late 90s) they were really unusual, and this was the pick of the lot - the vehicle was only sold in 1998 and 1999 under the CL600 name (before that it was the S600 coupe); plates suggest this vehicle was bought new in 1998 - for $135900, according to Blue Book (note that it's NOT the "base" CL500 - it's the full-on CL600). Let's put it this way: they don't make them like this anymore. A spectacularly rare car: AutoTrader says there's only eleven for sale anywhere in the US right now.

Tonight was possibly the best single car-spotting night I've had in history.

All pictures taken July 22, 2006 in Denver, Colorado between 7:30pm and 8:30pm

It started upon entering the area where I usually photograph cars and seeing this:

agf-sl65.jpg

Mercedes SL65 AMG

That's your basic $185,000 Mercedes. No surprise he's at the pumps, eh? I knew it'd blossom from there and alas it did. On down the street:

agf-ml55.jpg

Mercedes ML55 AMG

Not bad - and over $60k new, and only sold from 2000 to 2003. The next sighting came two blocks later:

agf-348.jpg

Ferrari 348

Yum - after being tricked by a red S2000, I saw a red car worthy of a photograph. Quite spectacular, even though it's not exactly the Ferrari to end all Ferraris. Four blocks on:

agf-testarossa.jpg

Ferrari Testarossa

The very first Testarossa I've ever seen on the street. Spectacular sighting, spectacular car. After its role on Miami Vice, the coincidence here is that its plates were from Miami, Florida. Other Testarossa images:

agf-Utest2.jpg
agf-Utest3.jpg
agf-utest4.jpg

Next up (a block from the Testarossa) was a car I hadn't really expected to see just yet:

agf-997t.jpg

Porsche 911 Turbo [997]

Very, very gorgeous. Do note that the first 997 Turbo posting in this thread came yesterday by Crash852 - though I personally enjoy this photograph. It's a very, very attractive car. And four blocks the other way:

agf-360sp.jpg

Ferrari 360 Spider

Saw and posted it last night; nothing to get too happy about since this particular 360 is not an uncommon sighting, as I mentioned. I headed back the other way and caught this:

agf-gallardo.jpg

Lamborghini Gallardo

A very nice car, and one of my favorite-styled vehicles. I've seen it before and have posted it in this thread. New Hampshire tags. Next I headed to a large parking lot across the street. In valet:

agf-trifecta.jpg

"The Trifecta" - Bentley Flying Spur, Mercedes SL65 AMG, unidentified muscle car

Who can help me out with which car is on the left? That's a $350,000 picture even without the muscle car. And further on in the lot, except not in valet:

agf-nsx.jpg

Acura NSX

Old NSX, new plates - someone's taking advantage of the fact that early models are finally clearing $25k! I decided to next try downtown (which was a huge mistake), and on the way caught this, as I was sitting at a light:

agf-360s2.jpg

Ferrari 360 Spider

Pretty nice indeed. And then this guy came a block later:

agf-mcoupe.jpg

BMW Z3 M Coupe

Very gorgeous - and a nice picture, to be immodest - and a fairly rare sighting. The best color, obviously. After downtown, which had no cars, I came back to the same area as before and caught this:

agf-550m.jpg

Ferrari 550 Maranello

That would be across the street from the Gallardo, which produced this picture:

agf-g5.jpg

Looking closely, you can see both vehicles. As I was taking the picture of the 550 (or setting up for it), a Bentley Arnage with the tag ARNAGEE drove by. After the shot of the 550 I tried to find it, but couldn't, instead finding this:

agf-arnage.jpg

Bentley Arnage

An Arnage yes - but NOT the same one I had just seen. Unfortunately I never did see the first one again, so while I did see two of the vehicles I only photographed this one. The last sighting came at 8:30pm, when I had run out of light but not out of cars:

agf-viper.jpg

Dodge Viper RT/10

Somewhere in that shot lurks a Viper...

Spectacular night - how does Memphis compare to that? :P

Well I guess my day sucks compared to yours:

- One Ferrari 360 Modena Coupe, Ferrari Red
- Two A-10 Warthogs (yes, they aren't cars, but they flew over on my way to work)

Bloody hell M5Power, for one day that's a serious schmorgasboard of autoerotica. Nice one! Keep 'em coming!

Not Memphis, Germantown, one of those absurdly rich zip codes, the edge of which I live on.

Some of those which you mentioned as rare, Passat W8, Z3 M-Coupe (and Roadster, caught two in the same parking lot one night), X5 4.6iS, 348, C36, and MkIV Supra's I've seen several of in the area.

Not as many high end exotics, unless it's time for the annual Ferrari show, which I missed this year >.<.

Nonetheless, some very nice cars out here, whoda thunk it, low amounts of snow+people with more money than brains=great place for car geeks.

I mean, do you really want to do this? You realize you're talking to someone who saw five Ferraris, three Bentleys, and a Lamborghini in the space of an hour, right?

Thank you thank you - right up there with Hong Kong :D (and others - as I was driving around I was wondering when the hell I moved to Dubai!).

As I said, I don't see as many high end exotics, a smattering of old Ferrari's, seen a Diablo, seen a few new Ferrari's, tons and tons of Porsches, all generations.

LOTS of absolutely weird cars though, obscure, rare, fascinating, etc. Though, I'd bet there is a part of Germantown/Collierville that all the rich guys drive their "babies" too, I've just yet to go looking for it.

I'm still kicking myself for missing the Exotic Car show in June, Here's a smattering of pics from it, almost all of those cars are from the Germantown/Collierville area. so, yeah, we've got some REALLY nice cars out here.

I presume this means the challenge is off.

Just some pics from last night and this morning...

I'm no muscle car expert but it looks like a Chevelle SS to me

My mother has a 2004 Lancer Sportback; base, red exterior with black leather interior. ATX. It's not a bad car. That Ralliart package makes it look better, if not perform better.

Looks to be a '66 Chevelle SS, probably with a 396, or possibly a '67.

The New RS4 Avant and a MK1 XKR Convertable racing up the M6 together, doing at least 100mph.

I say 100mph+ because we were touching 80mph and they zoomed right past, sounding incredible.

Worth anything? Yeah I like the SportBack, however I understand both why they didn't sell and why they were cancelled. Gone before I ever had a chance to recommend one.

You win, k?

Of course I do. I'm not going to let anyone get away with saying that their city is better than mine.
