Not seen today, and not technically a car, but for sheer wow factor.

Aaah, so that's where I parked it...

No pics unfortunately but I did see a Hayabusa, idling away in a garage forecourt, what a sound and what a size of bike, it's bigger than I thought it would be. Azing sound when it pulled away though !

Just to wrap things up with the whole posting without a picture "debate"....

There's a reason you can't go on and on without a picture...because it's stupid! If you want to talk about a great car(not ownership or sightings) then do it in a thread in the Cars in general forum. But since this thread is about what you've SEEN, posts should be with a picture of what you're SEEN. Wow, what a hard concept. :dopey:

Just in case anyone didn't get Swift's post:

No pics = No posting
Yes pics = Yes posting

Quality of the pics should be good enough to determine the car, but not so good that will prove that it's not your pic :)

Not wishing to cause a huge fuss and go against 'da rules' but honestly. Who has a camera with them 24/7? The AMOUNT of times if seen something in town and not had my camera... well it goes without saying. And/or I very often see cars on the road... so if I happened to have my camera for once it would turn out a coloured blur or something. And generally when I'm on the road I don't have time to wipp my camera out.
Why can't people post about what they've seen?
If they're sad enough to lie then that's their problem.

C'mon. It IS a bad idea

i would guess 90% of people,as almost every phone has one
But how many have a way of transferring photos off their camera onto their computer. I don't.

[EDIT] Plus the cameraphone/mobielphone culture is nowhere near as strong as it is in the UK. That's one thing where we Brits are ahead.

Why can't people post about what they've seen?

Because that's what the thread starter asked for. He only made 4 rules - make it interesting, take a picture, say where/how you saw it and dealerships don't count. Not that hard, surely?

I'm only talking about the picture part. Unfortunatly i can't take photos with my eyes.
Nevermind

I'm not trying to argue here. I'm just saying my thoughts.... However, I'm probably in the wrong.

It's not a problem - but bottom line is that those are the rules for the thread. That's just how it is - see my "boobies" example from earlier on...

Oh boy, that can me misinterpreted in so many ways

Well, nothing to rare, just a Few M coupes a Ford GT and a carrera. I saw an older (early 90's) Mercedes C230 that said "4matic" on it. I'm assuming its means 4WD, rare maybe?

Saw ANOTHER celica convertible, but they are always driving by me for some reason and never parked. Oh well...

Ok so the rules have been established and argued on so many occasions its beginning to get tiresome, but the truth is its not always possible to get a picture. Driving, heavy traffic, weather and pedestrians can all make doing so very difficult.

In my opinion it might be better if we had an option of what we could post. For example if we were able to take a picture, then fine a picture would be just perfect, but if not, then maybe a detailed description and/or an interesting story as to the circumstances of said sighting.

Ive not got a problem with these rules as i dont tend to see much anyway.
But i think limiting the thread to Piture only posts would kill it somewhat, and a newer improved description of requirements or rules should be amended.

Just a thought :)

We're really not here to be obstinate. We're not planning on banning people or deleting every single solitary post that doesn't have a picture in it. But really, the fact remains that this thread was created SOLELY because the previous version of it did not require pictures. The first version was popular, but ended up in the recycle bin because it was FULL of people claiming to have seen outrageous cars, and getting into arguments with other people who didn't believe them.

Really. That's the truth. Giles didn't makes those rules for fun, and we're not enforcing them for an ego trip. We all have far better things to do than argue about this question and overmoderate this thread. I for one could be actually playing GT4 instead of typing this.

Why not put this thread in the Videos & Photos section and put a new thread in here in which you can actually say what you saw without having to prove it by posting a picture.

Another thought - Frequent contributers of excellent pictures M5Power and harrytuttle as well as many others including my good self, soemtimes post pictures of cars that we have not necessarily seen on the day we post them. This strikes me as being an outlandish abuse of the title of the thread 'Did You See Anything Good Today?' Maybe one of the mods could go back through the thread and delete all of the offending pictures.

I saw a beautiful pristine Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet (Fortunately I have the pictures to prove that I am not a liar) I'm curious about the badging on the back. I had partaken in some beer tasting and it didn't occur to me that I should take a closer picture...

By the way, I'd love to tell you that I saw a lovely Ferrari Testarossa in red, but unfortunately as I was travelling in a minibus, holding two bags of shopping with my camera phone in my pocket, I'm not allowed.

I do...assuming I remember both my camera and my head. Having gotten into this thread big time, I consider it a hobby. It takes a little work, and a lot of practice to see this stuff from the corner of your eye buried behind three SUV's, but it's a neat little thrill that uplifts an otherwise boring drive.

For those who don't agree with the moderators, keep in mind that you don't own or run this forum. Anarchy doesn't work well here. Or anywhere, regardless of how enticing it can seem.

Think of it like another must-have game, only you have to buy a different console. Since you're all posting regularly here I'm assuming you have a computer already, and since it's still running it most likely has a USB port somewhere on it. All you need is your new console:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000AYGDWU/?tag=gtplanet-20
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00007IFMJ/?tag=gtplanet-20

Total is around US$130. That's less than a small-form-factor PS2 and any PS2 game. Since it's over $40, ground shipping is free. Buy now! Buy often! Hot diggety credit!

The thing is, this is a hobby that has a non-free price of entry. How would it be if you wanted to compete in a go-cart trackday club, but complained about having to buy your own go-cart? That would be double-plus-ungood.

Yeah, I could go for that. Um, either moving it or changing the title slightly. 👍

I think some people are "good for it", having earned a solid reputation. It's not like it's post after post where people just list a few random cars from Evo's 'The Knowledge'.

Oh, and let me know if I get any more fakes. I get a little over eager sometimes and my critical eye takes a short vacation.

But I digest....

ChevyChevyChevyChevyChevy. I found Chevy's, and you didn't.

Chevrolet Bel Air - I swear there's so many of these being auctioned they can be traded like oranges on the Chicago stock exchange.
Chevrolet Camaro SS350 convertible
Chevrolet Camaro SS350 - I thought these were the same car, until I really looked at the picture. One's a real ragtop, and the other's got that gunk stuck on the roof. And, uh, other more obvious things.
Chevrolet Corvette C5 - not special in itself, but the license plate was nice.
Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS - just look at that supercharger!

Thanks to everyone who's arguing for the continuation of this thread without the requirement of pictures. :) 👍

And also, thanks to harry and chaser_fan who, like me, do carry their cameras around with them everywhere they go - because this hobby is a particularly enjoyable one. :)

September 15, 2006 - Atlanta, Ga.

Decent night tonight. Check out the picture of the Flying Spur - it was really incredible before changing it into JPG, but then it lost much of its quality. Either way, you can still see how sharp it is - that image is across five lanes of traffic; I was a pedestrian and saw the vehicle, took out my camera, turned it on, zoomed it, and still got that picture. Not bad indeed. Then again, the Elise took three shots to get right and it was sitting parked.

Tonight's "highlight":

Same place where last week's Murcielago Roadster was.

Personally, I only post in this thread if I have a picture to prove I saw the car in question. If I see a car but can't take a picture, I just don't post here. One reason is I just find a list of cars a bit dull - but with pictures, you can see the car and find things that are unique on it, like the wheels on M5Power's DB9, above.

The other reason is it's so easy to lie about seeing a car without a picture that it just takes the fun out of it. For every car I get a picture of, there's probably about 5 that I don't; those other 5 I could mention, but because I have no pictures of them, I don't bother. Basically, I like seeing the pictures - they're what make this thread, for me, a quality thread to read through.

Went with my mate to drop his brother off at univeristy today.

Saw quite a few beauties but only took pictures of the Cayenne Turbo and DB9.

That's not a DB9, it's a V8 Vantage. For thoes who arn't sure what to look for the crease on the side and the exhausts are the big givaway if you can't see the front. The exhausts on the DB9 are more central, they don't come through the rear bumper like that, and the DB9 doesn't have the crease down the side from the front wheel arch to the rear arch.
