I can't kill the game (GT6) because I love the series. I do see however, that certain features that were very useful have been inexplicably left out. Well the report sort of tells me why. The PD developers were faced with juggling the overall performance of the game. So menu options and other impediments to memory simply had to go.
We are playing a video enhanced skeletonized version of GT6. PD installed all the high end features that they could and still be able to maintain game play.

It seems that they have removed every aspect that detracts from bottom line performance and are being careful what they put back in. I'm pretty sure they know just how far they can push the PS3. They are trying to balance things.

I do feel the game will take a large step forward with its arrival on the next gen platform. Once that happens there will be plenty of "room" for some of the missing features, bells and whistles. It will get better. I just want PD to deliver on the car and track DLC and hotfix when things get out of hand.👍

I think we will see the first true Next Gen title when GT hits PS4. PD have an impeccable reputation for pushing technology to the limits, even if it is focused on the lesser details, which is actually more for some gamers. Despite all the problems, I still have a lot of fun in GT6. Seeing as all the hard work PD has done will pay off greatly on PS4, especially on GT7, the series will probably be a system seller.

Now all we need to do is keep our fingers crossed that the exhaust, and shift sounds will be improved sometime this year so a more complete version of GT6 will be launched for PS4. They've done it with the Red Bulls:cheers:, they can do it with the rest. Surely there is much more that needs improving, but those two things with smoother frame rates would make a lot of us GT gamers very happy.

:gtpflag:

For all its problems, GT6 still manages to hold its voodoo over me for some reason.

Honestly I don't think GT7 will be that much of an upgrade in visuals besides being smoother in frames and detail on the trackside.

Are you assuming GT7 is on PS3 or PS4?

My question is what current wheels will work on a PS4; because if my G25 wheel will not and there are no wheels (reasonably priced-max $600 (e.g Thrustmaster 500) that will work on a PS4 than a GT7 (PS4) will be of no use to me.:irked::crazy:

Without a wheel that works on PS4; I will not purchase the PS4, or any PS4 games. 👎:irked::crazy:

Whatever the hardware shortcomings of the PS3 I am enjoying GT6 with my G25 wheel. :) 👍

You may want to check this thread:

So this article pretty much confirms they will be porting cars to the PS4 Gran Turismo game.

The premium cars when scanned were done at higher levels of detail than we see on ps3. Kaz has previously said they lowered the detail on ps3 premium car models. So we will see use of those premium assets but presumably at a higher level of detail to either gt5 or gt6.

And why not? Most of the time when you see other cars in GT6 they have fewer polygons than a standard.

Also, the thread title's a bit misleading, I didn't think there was any "versus" about the DF examination, I thought it was dispassionate, balanced and informative.

So the PS3 is pushed to the max... I think its life has been a steep learning curve for Sony and I doubt that anyone will ever create such a bespoke piece of architecture for home distribution again. It's the end of an era ;)

We were hoping to have all new cars built from the ground up for the new gen, not ports.

Which would be a good thing. New assets for a new gen.
That Turn 10 implied that they didn't have the foresight to make their assets any better than necessary for the Xbox 360 (including the ones they made as DLC for the side game that was in development at the same time) and needed to redo everything from scratch for Forza 5 is not necessarily any more of a good thing than PD having claimed to have made their PS3 assets in a high enough initial quality that they can also be reused for the PS4.

That only applies if the assets in question are of a noticeably lower quality on a new platform ie, the Standard cars from previous GT iterations, rehashed in GT5. The GT5 premiums look fine in GT6 and the new GT6 premiums are of a high enough quality to survive a step up in rendering technology. "If it aint broke, don't fix it"

Not all of us agree though. Some of us don't want to settle for ports because they look good in the current gen machines. Porting will bring in the flaws that already exist. Granted new assets will bring in new flaws just as well.

How much more detailed than the current Premiums are the cars likely to need to be for PS4? Don't forget they had the PS4 / future-proofing in mind from the start, so things like low-res textures will only apply to the PS3 versions of the cars - they will have made higher res versions at the same time

I would have "settled" for ports of these cars in Forza 5.

You're also forgetting that Kaz's claim is that the models they made were too high quality for the PS3; and while I doubt that is the case for all of the Premium cars, it still alludes to not needing to throw out everything like Turn 10 claimed to need to do. That means that the ones they use will not be simple ports of the ones that they did use on the PS3.

People here are way too focused on useless details. What really matter is the overall result, GT5 cars level of detail is good enough for PS4 already, they don't need graphical updates. The remaining hardware resurces should be used for:
-better anti-aliasing
-frame rate
-improving AI
-increasing number of cars on track
-dynamic grip change during race

What's the point of more detailed cars, insane poly count and being forced to play with ugly aliasing, otherwise the frame would stutter too much?

I remember the days when GT4 were perfectly balanced on the hardware and GT5 Prologue as well. Now they are just trying to impress a bounch of spoiled kids and failing because they overshot.

Frame drops and aliasing = kill the fun.

I would be glad to at least have the same features from GT5 with performance improvements. I feel cheated to have paid for a game with less features and A LOT more bugs, event though it loads more quickly. Graphics are almost even, since we gained a bit on quality, lost a little on framerate.

If only they had found a way to fix the online connection bugs...

No personal grudge, although it's pretty enlightening you think that. It's also pretty comical you assume I haven't read the entire thread. You know the saying about assuming, I assume

Griffiths response to your last post in that thread, which you even liked, about how that OP is accurate.
All things considered, the title is accurate. The thread has already elicited (and the OP has agreed) that there is not necessarily a concrete relationship between model and "performance"; but what is certain is that some people are clearly having a better time of it than others. It varies from console to console. The performance depends on which console you got, which seems to be true even amongst equivalent models.

...snip...

The post you quoted basically acknowledges that there will be differences even among the same console versions/models, which, in turn, basically refutes the possibility of the info presented in that thread's OP being concrete evidence that console versions have any ascertainable effect on performance.

No matter what, someone will complain.
If they dump standards, people will complain. If they don't, people will complain.
If sounds improve people will still complain that they aren't good enough.
I agree. If the game was perfect in every possible regard, I guarantee people would complain it's perfect. :(

Only 3 quick points:

1) they verified that PD has indeed switched to an inferior form of post-processing AA. This type of AA is considered absolutely unacceptable to many gamers, and should be considered as OPTION only. This alone ruins the graphics of GT6 for many, regardless of other improvements, as it makes the game look soft and more "game like".

2) in keeping with that, I wish PD had simply given us a true 1080p resolution and skipped the AA completely, it would look much better. At the very least that should be the default setting, and those that prefer a soft picture over detail could then turn on AA if they wished...

3) I'm surprised the frame rates are as high as they are. I'm not terriibly bothered by frame rates until they start to fall below 30 in most games (I play very few fast-twitch games), but there are times in GT6 where the frame rate problems are very noticeable to me. I really thought we were getting sub-30fps in some areas.
