Direct-Capture GT Sport Footage: Nürburgring Nordschleife

Given that ps4 replays are 30fps and ps4 pro are at 60fps at 1980p, if I remember correctly, then all of these direct captures must be pro replays.
I cannot think of any reason why they would not show the new stuff on ps4 Pro.

Forgive my ignorance...I don't know anything about video games, in general.

What is the difference of them showing a "demo" file replay instead of my driving, for example, in replay mode? I truly don't know, but it seems like this is an issue based on the comments. Thanks guys...

Tend to agree.

I could see them recording the game on the standard console to show how good the game looks on it, but I expect they would also want to highlight that fact very clearly, which doesn't seem to be the case.

I've no clue whether Demo mode runs at 30 or 60fps.
I'm just assuming that direct capture whether clicking 'Start' or clicking 'Demo' at that point would be the same.
As opposed to backing out and accessing a 'replay' file.
So it could well be a moot point anyway.

This confusion over whether what you're seeing is an enhanced version for a console you don't own, or something you can expect to see on the inferior hardware is one of my main reservations about the existence of this two-tier system Sony have started.

For me, demo/replay at 60fps strongly indicates the PS4 Pro being used. But then why use 1080p? Would be nice to have this cleared up.

Absolutely horrible AI at rally, they dont know how to tackle dirt track at all. Driving slowly at corners, no sliding whatsoever. Track looking bad and track creator like.

You can't say that, you don't know.

And I already have a TV 4K HDR, a PS4 Pro isn't a problem for me.
Nor can you claim anything either. This is what I posted earlier.

Do you think there is a problem with me making that conclusion for example?

Probably because more people can view it in 1080p. Alot of people do not have a 4k capable screen...me included, so we can't watch above 1080p @ 60fps

A replay suggest someone was driving, and then we watched a replay.
To me these videos show only AI driven cars, hence the suggestion of Demo mode.
Essentially direct capture of 'gameplay'.
Not a 'replay' as such.
On one the Willow Springs video(don't remember which one) it becomes clear it is in fact the demo mode indeed, right before the finish line you see the "selected car" brake instead of overtaking the guy ahead. :) Just like Bob did in B-Spec when you didn't push him hard enough in GT4-6.

Yeh, I guess it's a tricky one.
It depends on peoples financial situations.

I mean, what screen are you, or I, using to view these replays?
At the end of the day, the 'two-tier system' as you call it is more about peoples ability to afford the TV than the upgraded console.
Without that, but still owning a PS4 Pro, you miss everything except perhaps an improvement on the downscaled image to 1080p.
There will be no upscaled checkerboard 4k, no HDR, and no wide colour.

So I think the biggest culprit here is the TV, not the console.

Edit.
Oops, my apologies.
I seem to have overlooked the elephant in the the room.

Yes, 60fps replays.
You are right, from all reports it does seem that without the Pro replays will only be 30fps.
Whether that's an issue, I guess, is up to each individual.

Actually I do. Just look up a few posts and you'll know too. Why would PS4 Pro be a problem?

Ah sorry bro, I didn't mean the financial side of things or whatever, I meant that with a two-tier system, it can be hard to be sure that what you're looking at is what you will experience.

Just clear labellling is all I was after.

Gottcha. 👍

Fully agree that it would be good if clips were accompanied with a simple statement of 'This was recorded on a standard/Pro PS4' to avoid unnecessary questioning.

Since the videos are uploaded to YouTube in 1080p, we don't really even know what the game looks like. It'll look even better than those YouTube videos.

Even if you watch them on a 4K HDR TV, you'll still being seeing a 1080p non-HDR picture; hell, even if they were uploaded in 4K resolution on YouTube you'd still lose out on the HDR.

When you've seen GTS running on a PS4 Pro in 4K mode on a 4K HDR TV, you'll have some idea of what it "really" looks like. Even then you won't get the full GTS experience - current 4K HDR TVs can't even display the 10,000 lumens that GTS outputs.

GTS native experience checklist:

  • GTS
  • PS4 Pro
  • 4K HDR TV (able to output 10,000 lumens)
  • Bank robbing skills

However, as most of the PS4 install base are using HD TVs, only a minority will be able to experience the "true" GTS anyway!

And then there is youtube compression too...

Regardless, simple labeling can't be hard.

You forgot Wide Colour.

C'mon.
I want my Ferrari Red and my McLaren Orange to be true to life.
Not this 'pretend it's good enough' bollocks. :)

But seriously, you raise some good points regarding Joe Public watching these clips.

Sadly I haven't been able to make it to a live venue.
And the only chance I had was GT Academy, well before the Pro surfaced anyway.

All I want to see now is rain.
Show me that PD and maybe, just maybe, I'll crown you the king of console graphics.

Amen brother, let it rain ⛈

Something will never change : I hate the VW VGT sound! It's not just bad like some others sounds can be, it's unpleasant IMO. If this sound don't change, I won't play with this car for sure.
I think it's one of the best we've heard. It's loud and aggressive unlike most of the others, and accurate on top of that. If you dislike that sound then you dislike VR6 engines:

Of course, the VGT's missing those pops and gurgles but it's still very accurate to its engine type.

Not sure why no-one's added these yet, as they've been posted on the News page for hours, but I'll do the honours.
Just to complete the set, here's the latest (and last) direct capture vids.

There's something so satisfying about watching an angry pack of GT3 cars go round a track.

If PD can manage DRIVECLUB levels of rain, both in-car and atmospheric at 60fps and 4K, I'll be astounded. If they can do it in VR, I will also be astounded. As far as I'm concerned, both are currently impossible on PS4 architecture.

DRIVECLUB runs at 30fps, 1080p, no HDR but is currently the market-leader graphics wise. The in-car rain effects are hands down the best ever seen in a driving game. This game came out in 2013...

The following YouTube videos hardly do the game justice (720p) but they have to be seen to be believed...

DRIVECLUB also has a VR mode running at 60fps but the graphics are extensively toned down. They said they had to just so the game would run smoothly on PS4. So if PD can manage that, again, astounded...

Yes, Driveclub is the market leader in just rain (imo), but graphics wise in other situations and car models, I think GT Sport already surpasses substantially, with 60fps too. With 30fps, PD could potentially destroy Driveclub visuals in the rain.

But seriously, Driveclub looks just ok in dry weather, especially in third person view and replay. In cockpit, it does feel and look much better though.

So technically, PD is already graphics king in my eyes, if the playing field is equal.
