DiRT 3 (Debut Trailer Page 2; First Details Inside)

Traded in Shift 2 and F1 2010 PS3 for $33 or so store credit at GameStop and preordered Dirt 3 for PS3 today, will pick it up tomorrow. They said they were "going fast". I hope the rally stages get a little longer.
 
Their really is so much to like in this game.

Even the simple things like being able to pause the game and go directly to your FFB wheel settings make a change and exit straight back into the game.

One fault I find is having no pre route intro, so your first attempt at a stage or track is a bit of an unknown as to what car setup you should go for. Still it usually takes a few goes to really get up to speed.

Do remember guys that their is a difficulty setting for the AI. I'm finding level 5 & 6 give me the best competitive races. The AI are also pretty darn good at these levels.

Yeah that first point is something so simple and yet so magnificent.

Even if there was a route map it would be better. Having said that, that is the only flaw I can find with this game so far. :P

I'm on level 5 AI and finding it a good challenge with the wheel. I struggle with Trail-blazer a bit though with the lack of co-driver. It is only then that you really realise how much you rely on him!

On the second season after golding all of the first. Unlocked all triangles in 2nd season but only done all the races on one of the triangles.
Also done all the challenges for the first gymkhana area you unlock. 👍

So, I just picked up a 360 controller for Windows. It was either this or a Logitech third-party design based on the Sony controllers. I've had some problems with third-party peripherals in the past, and DIRT 3 didn't support the Logitech design, so the 360 for Windows was the only option I had. Which I'm glad for, because it's made by Microsoft instead of some dodgy third-party group (I saw some that were on sale for $20 - yuck). It's actually quite nice in the hand; lighter than the Dual Shock 2 that I'm used to. My thumb strays towards the D-pad in the centre, but I should learn it pretty quickly. Especially if I put manual transmission on and have to concentrate on gear changes. Because that's how I'm going to be playing this game - all assists off, maximum difficult and manual gearbox.

Yeah similar, bit behind maybe. I too retry for Golds.
It really does look like a PC game though, gees no jagged shadows, brill lighting and very detailed.

Are these AI settings on the PS3 version? I haven't seen them yet, the only settings I can see in regards to AI pace and car control etc is just before the race where you pick intermediate or advanced.

Intermediate being too easy and advanced being a bit hard, wouldn't mind a nice in between!

When you go into the difficulty/assists bit, click advanced settings.
In there you can turn off all the aids and get a custom AI setting. 👍

There are more detailed instructions on the difficulty level and assists settings in the downloadable manual found here > http://www.codemasters.com/manuals/download.php?id=64

As Aldo says it's easy to change the experience level to your liking although I would recommend turning all assists off apart from ABS.

Thats good that you can alter it :D, I didn't like that in intermediate that assists were on, and I didn't like in advanced that there was no driving line as I need it until I get familiar with the tracks :lol:

Just bought my copy today. I find that Intermediate difficulty is too easy for me, so I'm trying out the various difficulty settings right now after winning the opening events. Overall, I'm liking this game so far.

I just want to be able to redeem my code so I can race online, but the PSN Store is still down which is annoying.

Yes, I'm finding the intermediate really easy. I can afford to make a mistake and still win... Going to put it up to max difficulty and see what happens. 👍
 
Well about to start my conpletely filled D3 day. So I'll have more to share later. I have to say I am very bummed the R4 is part of the VIP and PS3 users cant get it yet :( :(

What's everyone's first impressions of that Drift Showdown game mode? I don't really like it, just reduce your downforce, make your differential stronger, throw it into a corner at a high enough speed at get 3000+ points. :indiff: Really gutted to see that gatecrasher hasn't continued from Dirt 2 though. That used to be pretty hard on the most difficult setting and taught you pretty much the perfect racing line. 👍

I did some TT at one of the Monaco head to head stages in an Opel Manta last night. So much fun. Though I was perplexed to find my time didn't go on the leaderboards, despite my PB being about 6 seconds quicker than the best time.

Anyone else had some issues with it?

I pre-ordered mine from Game and didnt get any Bonus stuff except for the DVD which i'm guessing everyone else got :ouch:

Yep, (on PS3) go into replay, select the view etc. that you want and pause it, then press the PS button and go to the Photo subsection, scroll down to save screenshot, press x and then x again. It should be in a folder called Dirt 3 afterwards. :)
