Anyone else think it is stupid that if you are mid-way through a career event then a daily comes up using the same car, you can't enter the daily because the car is in use??!?!??

Yes. I know it has to do with paying for repairs and such. Not a fan of the My Career here.

To be honest I can see myself ditching the career mode altogether at this rate and focusing on custom and community events.

The career mode is just not fun; the Ai is broken and ranges from woefully awful to McCrae levels of brilliance, cost of repairs is astronomical on newer cars and does not seem wholly accurate (I've done many faultless stages in the 95 Subaru but every time its geometry, suspension, engine and radiator need attention) Most stages are at night or dim light, with rain of course and as I said previously the car you use is locked in until you complete the event (I don't have enough free time to do whole career events in one sitting)

Not even McRae in any of those flat out stages (without crashing) that made him legendary was as fast as this artificial DR1-DR2 AI.

They have made it so you have to try and score second positions persistently, and then the top AI with the laughable fast times in all rallies suddenly retires in the last one, giving you the championship victory eventually. You can also achieve a first position in some rally sometimes, but after that you will get third positions max only, until the miraculous top AI retirement happens in one of the last rallies.

This is how Dirt Rally 1 and 2 AI works. Completely surreal and unsatisfying, even if you achieve victory eventually through scoring second positions on a persistent mannner. ON dr1 the most notorious example was Greece, which was borderline impossible to win 99% of the times unless It came as the last rally in your championship.

I remember one of the devs back then on DR1 days saying that it was made like this so It made you feel soo so accomplished for what you had done achieveing a second or third position, and to also give you a taste of how hard achieving a first position in rally actually is. The laughter after such idiotic excuse can be heard all over Mars, as everybody knew and still know it is another issue with the ego engine AI times simulation.

That's what I do already. But even still, the car will be tied up if you do a weekly or monthly event, so you won't be able to use it in daily anyways. Sticking to dailies is something I considered and custom events all other times.

To be honest, career is a bit pointless, unless one wants achievements/ trophies. If you care about getting credits, you can make more in the community events, especially if you knock out a monthly.

I stick to the community events since I have the mindset of "If I'm going to get absolutely destroyed, it might as well be against real people".

I haven't had issues with cars being tied up yet, but I also haven't done any events I cant do in one sitting either.

Codemasters AI difficulty has always been frustrating that way. I remember playing TOCA 20 years ago and the medium difficulty setting was not challenging. I was winning by 10+seconds. So I bumped it up to the next difficulty level, which was the highest. Suddenly the AI was untouchable—their lap times were supersonic. I had no chance of even leading, much less contending for victory.

I did a test the other night on a short Argentina stage, set it to highest Ai difficulty, re-ran the stage several times and got as close to a flawless run as possible (I'd say I'm above average speed wise on Dirt) and was still 9 seconds short of the top Ai driver!

So it's not scientific but the Ai is awful.

Of course I did because it comes enabled by default, which is crazy taking into account devs are supposed to be smart guys. The outcome with it enabled is a max fps rate of 85, dropping down to even 35 in "those sectors"

Please give me an example of "those sectors" as I've yet to encounter a sector where Advanced Blending is causing massive FPS drops.

If it happens it could be e.g. Argentina tracks (LaMerced) with peoples on top of the rocks and you sliding through the hairpins.
I don't experience massive drops. Not sure what my settings are. Can check once in my simrig.

I'm sure there are drops, but is it AB that causes it?

Yeah I'd call myself a journeyman, I'm never going to be the fastest but I've always been reasonably competitive (placed top 50 in a few online events in DR2). In DR1 I didn't have trouble beating the AI, while it was probably tough/unbeatable for a newcomer it was pretty fine for a sim-racing veteran, maybe a little slow for the fastest of fast (though it did depend on car/stage/upgrades).

That said, the AI in DR2 is a lot tougher from Pro onwards and there are times where I'm getting completely demolished, such as in the Sierra Cosworth at Poland in the wet. I've decided to wait for the FFB fix, I literally cannot drive the Sierra consistently enough to drive it fast, at least not on wet gravel/dirt or if it throws a wet tarmac stage at me when I have dry tyres on.

Hopefully Codies can fix the FFB soon, and perhaps reduce how many wet stages we get, so far I get more wet than dry.

If we're going to be honest, career mode offers absolutely nothing to dedicate time to over the community events. I'm of the mindset of many here and going to focus on those and the feeling of pure joy in making Tier 1.

They should add a Tier 0 for the aliens to get their kicks.

Quite agree.

That's what I did with DR and have already done with DR2.0.

I’m going to try some community events today, but thought ‘My Team’ was intended for leveling up cars and staff for better results in the online events. Do we get fully upgraded cars and staff for online?

I guess not, because the community events let you pick the cars from the career, including upgrades and inflicted damage.

No, the community events are considered a part of the career mode so you earn credits and the miles/kilometers count towards upgrade requirements. The o ly difference is you face other people instead of AI and the RX events are just time trials instead of actual races

Edit: Treed

While they're at it, they can creative special rewards for those in the top 10 like... Gold Chrome liveries for all cars? 💡

CM needs to develop a new engine or use UE4 engine.

Improvement is always welcome, but I find the game very pretty in its current state (One X).

Track-side assets could do with some work first before lighting, I still think V-Rally 4 has the edge in terms of giving each stage a more distinct feeling.

Triple monitor is crap with this engine.

Now is the time to participate in the weekly events. I do not consider myself fast compared to others, but I’m currently sitting near the top of Tier 2 in the Spain H1 event. Scrolling through the standings shows a huge number of DNFs.

Speaking of Spain, it’s the only location I feel comfortable with. Wet gravel is the thorn in my side. Coming off a win at Spain with Clubman difficulty using the H2 Escort, next up was New Zealand and 5 out of 6 stages were wet. And 20km of that were in the dark. Brutal...hairpin after 1 after 2 after 1 after hairpin are utterly demoralizing.

Today I figured I would see if I was ready to drive an R5 in anger.

This was the result...

It was also overheating. Somehow managed to only be 4 minutes off the leader though, which is impressive since I spent almost a minute trying to find the road again as I was too stubborn to just reset.

Only problem with a monthly even is you have to wait a month to receive the credits.
I really wish you could earn credits from custom championships

The flickering lights are a nightmare too. Your eyes start to roughly see a line, with difficulty, when they're out, but my eyes struggle with the switching. A bit like the dark spots in some stages.

I just started a monthly and you get paid a completion bonus immediately after finishing each rally. The one I started has 4 rallies total, which at my rate should be ~400k before I ever see the final bonus next month.

argentina AI daily challenge ,hit a rock lights out after 20 seconds, won the rally got first place ,weird carnt win **** with the lights on .rallying in the dark with no lights is the way forard :dopey:

I started the monthly community event (h1). How much does It pay off at the end?
I got 17th after the first event (probably nobody playing it cause i am not that good) and got 93.500 cr.

On some stages I turn the lights off manually as it’s easier to make out upcoming turns that way in some cases. Usually ones around dawn/dusk.
