DiRT Rally Thread

The only truly iconic Toyota would be the Celica ST165. And given its history - Toyota got caught cheating with it - I don't blame them if they are hesitating to include it.

I can think of a few others: Celica ST205, Corolla '98, also the Pikes Peak Tacoma and Celica. It's odd that Toyota would give them grief because the Tacoma was in Dirt 3 IIRC and of course Gran Turismo has always had a healthy selection of Toyota rally cars.

Weird that Kunos got the GT86 license, though, but I guess Toyota would be more willing to add a current model that they're actually selling to what's widely regarded to be a great, accessible simulator that's also going to be released on consoles than models they haven't made in years to a simulator where damage is pretty much mandatory. I was hoping we'd get Celicas, Corollas and the Pikes Peak cars (I wonder if the latter is still possible if they brand it as a Millenworks car with an "internal designaton" instead?) but licensing is a bitch.

There is actually a GT86 built to WRC specifications - Tommi Mäkkinen Racing built it independently of the Yaris WRC. But there's only one in existence (unless TMR built extras for clients).

First look at Lydden Hill

oh damn, I wish I'd seen this post earlier :S

Anyway thanks for sharing

Good news! Today is the last day of the GMG sale and all of the previous deals are back as an encore sale, so you now have another chance to get the game for cheap.

The more I play this game, the more annoyed I get at the bleeding clutch... Everything else I can deal with but a good 75% of my issues are caused by that clutch! (20% is my own foolhardy driving and 5% is my codriver being a lying git)

I still can't even use my clutch, or h-shifter, as neither are supported. The ffb makes it nigh on unplayable for me anyway though.

Use the Nerve FFB file, it is absolutely fantastic I think! And trust me, it isn't very good right now... the amount of times I kept getting a missed gear etc whilst recording... truly horrible. It is one of the only reasons I would say NO to this game being a must buy.

Not sure if it's exactly the same, but I tried one from TemplarGFX and all it really did was shift Codemasters' effects around a bit. There's only one truly physics based ffb effect on DiRT Rally, and I think that one is fundamentally flawed anyway.

I'll continue to wait, try each update, and give feedback.

I think it is that one, I quite like it. But yeah, I am going to keep testing things every update (and complain every week in my youtube videos about clutch until it is fixed! This has massive potential if Codies don't go and do a Codies...

Here's a few shots of some custom skins I downloaded, much better than the generic Dirt 3 style skins most of the cars have.
That's probably because they're actual liveries. They were used by Subaru in 1996 and by Ford in 1997.

Yeah I know, but they are custom in the sense that Codemasters hasn't given us the authentic liveries for a lot of the cars. Hopefully they get added later.

Achievements for upcoming FIA World Rallycross update.

I was hoping they would just get rid of the upgrade system, they have removed it from almost every game mode except career mode it just seems pointless now. It's not exactly an "upgrade" when all we are doing is restoring the cars to the specs they should already be.

We are still waiting on Rallycross/Multiplayer, Finland, Sweden + whatever cars they add.
I imagine that they would want a couple of rallycross circuits. Maybe they have confirmed more, but Lydden Hill, Hell and Holjes are the only ones that I know of.

Also surprised that they haven't looked to include the likes of Michigan, since it had the best stages in Dirt 3.

DiRT Rally so far is 100% reproducing real life tracks, including those famous rally stages. I always assumed that would be the plan for Rallycross as well, especially with the official FIA license.

That's right, the DiRT Rally World RX update is coming next week… Try not to scuff our new cars up too much.

Some info on any issues which may arise upon upgrade to Windows 10:

...we have two important messages for DiRT Rally players upgrading to Windows 10 this week.

First one is to back up your save before upgrading, DiRT Rally does support Steam Cloud Saving but we'd hate for you to get caught out if there was a problem with Steam, your internet connection or your PC.

To back up your save go to this folder on your pc C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<USER NUMBER> then look for the folder called 310560. Right click on it, zip it, then put it on a USB stick or somewhere safe just in case. If you need to restore your save just unzip the folder and put it back in the same place.

Next up is something which we've only noticed a few people suffer from but if you could help spread the word to those affected that would be awesome. It appears that after upgrading to windows 10 some people can't launch the game, if this happens to you please follow the following steps:

  • Right click on "DiRT Rally" in the Steam Library
  • Select "Properties"
  • Select the "Local Files" tab
  • Click on the "Browse Local Files" button
  • Delete the file "drt.exe" from the install directory
  • Click on the "Verify Integrity Of Game Cache" button
  • Steam will do its thing and you’ll be good to go.

I think they should be aiming for variety in surface types and environments. I doubt anyone but a rally purist could tell the difference between Alsace and Germany, but there's still plenty of scope. Sweden and Finland are the obvious choices for snow and gravel, with Wales for mud and Germany for tarmac. And naturally, Monte Carlo gives the mix of snow and tarmac. But the only other mixed-surface rally (on the WRC calendar, at least) is Catalyuna, which is tarmac and gravel. Michigan served the same purpose in Dirt 3. Otherwise, they need a baking-hot rally, like Mexico, Cyprus, the Acropolis, the old Rally Australia or Kenya. The only one that is really missing is a humid rally; we used to have Indonesia in the late 1990s, and it was even in the original Colin McRae Rally, but has never really been replaced, despite a bid from an event in India.

I always assumed that would be the plan for Rallycross as well, especially with the official FIA license.
I would imagine so, too, but they have only confirmed three venues (that I know of). Although variety of surface and environment is probably less important than it is in rallying.
