DiRT Rally Thread

I'm only up to the third 'tier' in career so far, at any point do you get random rain? Can get it in custom races but not so far in career, not had a night one yet either.

Based on where I am so far(same as yourself; Professional) I think the higher level the more suspectable to more adverse conditions such as rain, Night etc.

I've gotten used to the Peugeot 208 now, handles rather well.
Well, I only just got my hands on the Polo. I like to develop cars before I compete with them in major championships, so I had a go at Holjes. It's very technical, so it's probably the worst circuit to début on (though I quite like it and Hell). You just get all the power at once, and all you can do is drive around it and hope that you have a handle on it before you hit v-max. The weight transfer is completely different to the Super 1600 class, so I can't use the body roll to force oversteer, jam on the power to induce understeer and give it a dab of opposite lock to correct the line.

No, my rallycross driving style isn't pretty. But then again, it doesn't need to be pretty - it just needs to be quick.

The RX cars completely insane. That's my conclusion after doing a few races with the Polo anyway. Haven't been a very enjoyable experiences so far but then I have yet to get grips of their handling model. The S1600 class is however an absolute blast.

I really wish they had kept the Hill Climb and the Rallycross as DLC...particularly since you can't use the cars you want (which is rather stupid - I'd enjoy the hillclimb in a variety of weaker cars).

I detest rallycross (personally) and would have vastly preferred it to be a $10 DLC, and maybe Pikes Peak as a $5 DLC with the game price reduced to $35-ish MSRP. Like many games of this type, it's frustrating to buy the game and then not use 25-30% of the content.

Luckily I bought in at $35 pre-order, but with its relatively limited content I don't know that I'd spend $60 on it knowing I won't be using some of the stuff.

It's frustrating to begin with, but once you figure it out, it's surprisingly strategic. It helps if you fully-develop a car in advance, but given that upgrades become available based on distance driven, it can take a while to unlock them, even with mechanic perks. But the cars are incredibly durable and can withstand a lot of punishment; they're built for close-quarters combat.

Generally speaking, the best strategy is to take the joker on the first lap after everyone else has taken theirs. If you leave it too late, the AI can catch up with you, particularly during the semi-finals.

I have found that it's best to take the joker late at Lydden Hill, especially on the shorter layouts where the joker is a huge penalty. It's also very tight, requires braking and turning together, and the AI is very aggressive, so having company is a bad idea.

You should take the joker early at Höljes, especially on the clubman and full circuit configurations where the first corner complex is very tricky. Even though it has a slow chicane, it's not much of a penalty as it puts you on the better racing line, and you could reasonably take the joker every lap and win the race. You can take the joker any time you like on the junior circuit; personally, I prefer taking it sooner because it really slows you down even after you rejoin the circuit.

Hell is a wildcard. There is no one preferred strategy for the joker; it works on any lap. Just remember that the ideal line for the joker means cutting across the racing line of the circuit proper, so you really have to time it right to avoid a collision, especially if you intend to take it at the start.

Yes-I have to change my manual gear button configuration on the controller too after using the wheel the day before (slightly annoying as if you forget you have to do all that before the start)..I use the triangle(-down) and square(up+)manual gears (always have) and find this the fastest on the controller rather than the L1/R1 most games give you as default.👍

Same here ! Every time I start I have to map the gears 1-7 and R on my Th8a shifter, even tho it remembers that I'm using manual H +clutch.

I actually came across a squirrel (I think) although it looked larger on the screen so could be a small Fox? It was fast- shot across too quick for a photo I had to go to replay then mess around and this was the nearest I could get to it--But I got it on the screen! :D

I had something bigger--like a dog maybe, run across the road in Germany. I got it on video, will see if I can upload.

EDIT: Hopefully this works. Look as far down the road as possible or you'll miss it.

With Career mode, I have won the Rally championships on OPen and then Clubman, so am about to embark on Professional. However, i would like to use a different class of car now but will obviously be uncompetitive and would therefore rather start on open in a different class? is this possible? if not then I guess everyone will complete the Rally part of the career mode using only the 1960s class? seems annoying and rather short, i would rather have seperate modes for each class, not just the 3 different disciplines. All i seem to be able to play in this game is therefore custom championship.

Since i have saw @Brend review, i was thinking about getting this game in the future. Sadly i haven't found it anywhere apart from a place selling this edtion...

For around $58.37, buy, wait or never bother with this game?

You can run an 'open' rally in the 'custom championship', which is on the same page as the normal career one.

Not really, I've used a different class of car for each of the three championships I done so far, you just develop the car as you go.

I all depends on if you expect to win every single time, I don't because that's not how it works in reality, so I can live with having to redo a season or progressing via a third place finish to the season.

It all depends on what your expectations are.

Now i don't know what to spend my money on games...This, Uncharted Collections, NFS, Dark Soul 3 or what...

I was in the exact same place, got that edition (comes with a Colin Mcrae Blue Ray) I had just bought the Nathan drake collection as well, I'm gonna sell the collection then either buy Ratchet or wait for UC4 and buy Ratchet later.

I wouldn't recommend NFS at all. Get it for 20$ tops.

I've been playing around with the RX cars today and it finally clicked with me. Previously, I couldn't control them for my life, but I assume having mainly driven the RWD cars and the Group B beasts, it probably helped a lot. They're still tricky in the rain though but I'm now at least enjoy racing with them. I can comfortably win Custom Events on Very Hard difficulty, especially with the Fiesta. That car is godly.

No, it's not possible. But you can buy a new car, and use it in custom championship. You will have control over the difficulty settings, which will give you the time to develop it and acclimatise to it so that when you do enter a main championship, you will be better prepared.

I believe that one is a fox.

In having an issue. My car won't move. I'm hitting the gas, but it's like the hand brake is stuck on. I'm on the PS4 with a clubsport wheel. What do I do?
