Not pointing fingers at anyone, but wouldn't you all agree that taking a snapshot of the leaderboards with your name sounds even better? It even covers the driver assists!

Fantastic time, Wilk. Where do you feel during the lap made that 28 seconds possible? How crucial is landing that big jump? What about the last hairpin.. how fast were you going through it for the most part?

If you think wilk's time is impressive, you should see the current WR for the PC version - fifteen seconds.

Of course, it's held by a guy named "Freshwood", who is a known cheater. When he's not using a hack that makes him twice as fast as everyone else, his favourite trick is to "clone hack", which allows him to compete with someone else's gamertag. He likes to do this to ruin the reputations of the better players in the game.

Yes, I agree that from now on we should take a snapshot of our time shown on the Leaderboard. I'll do it as soon as I beat my previous best time, assuming that I can beat my previous best lap time.

Thanks man. I think the most time can be made up on how you land the jump and transition into the final hairpin without slowing down too much or sliding which seemed to be my biggest problem. It's been tricky trying to land that jump just right without landing in the water or having the back end get out of whack.

From memory I was hitting like 97mph before the first puddle then into the first hairpin was around 89mph downshifting to 3rd. Going through and coming out I tried staying around 60+mph and hitting 4th just before the jump. Then through the next right I was in 3rd I think around 68mph and the final hairpin in 2nd trying to hold high 50s and keep the from sliding wide.

Definitely think it was a freak lap where I guess hit the right lines finally without scrubbing much speed. A lot of laps I'd have a good run going then just make a slight mistake and it would cost me a lot of time. I'm pretty sure on that run I was using the stock setup as well.

I see. I guess I can't let this one get to me because of the ambiguity of landing that jump... Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't *shrugs*.

I'm probably going to ask similar questions to whoever sets a much faster time than mine. Mind you I am doing this so I can learn faster than simply just driving.

I've found the trick to the lap isn't so much the jump, but the straight before it (and this applies to all four circuits at the Smelter). You have to hit the jump square-on, because if you take it at an angle, you'll botch the lap if you don't just roll. You have to come out of the previous corner quickly and have the angle ready, because any last-minute changes between corner and jump will just slow you down. Usually because you'll need to back off or brake slightly.

I really wasn't expecting to set a time below 0:29.000, but I just did.

0:28.864

I just had a look at what wilk489 said he did to set his fastest lap and I pretty much did the same thing as him, although I dropped down to second gear for a moment on the first corner. I don't know how I managed to gain 7/100th of a second exactly, but my vehicle setup probably helped. I set the brake bias all the way to the front and reduced the downforce, but not fully. Everything else was set to default.

Also, I tried beating my fastest lap time afterwards, but I couldn't even get close to my ghost.

:D Just took the WR Lap. Beat it by 0.190.

0:28.336

Proof

That lap time took a bunch of runs. I went off Weigert's advice about adjusting the downforce, after a few good laps I ran a 0:28.670, and was breaking into the high 28 range a lot. Based off the timer I had the WR beat everywhere except coming out of the last turn to the finish where they'd always pull away.

Basically the lap went trying to keep a high line into the first corner while in 3rd hitting 4th before the jump and coming at an angle towards the left and landing in that perfect spot where the truck just planted and kept going. Holding 4th as I entered into the next turn then down shifting to 3rd(could get a lot of speed, but kept rolling it and for me 4th seemed to work best to enter the corner) and into the last turn downshifting about halfway into the turn to 2nd and holding a very tight line to the finishing.

My setup had the downforce lowered all the way and everything else default.

I was just thinking about this, I know many may not want to ''expose'' their tune secrets (even though there are only so many possibilities) but maybe after each event, the top 3 or everyone, could tell what tune they used. This will not ruin anything due to the event being over and each track is different.

PS- It would be hilarious if the #1 person had the tunes set at default, and here I am trying every possible scenario.....

I couldn't imagine me breaking into the 27s lol it was hard enough getting into the low/mid 28s

Hey I think it's definitely possible to beat people with defaulted settings....

Settings help you out but I don't feel they help you out enough to make a drastic difference... this is partially and arcade racer after all.

I wouldn't say that. I figured out a setup that makes the pro fiesta faster than the C4 that all the WR times are with.

During my trial runs for theSTIGs offline events, I would do 2-3 races all with the same tune, then proceed to adjust, do another 2-3 races (all on the same tracks) and some tunings made a huge difference, all while attempting the same path and speeds as before.

There is a good balance between arcade and sim, but I think both tuning and approach are as important in dirt 3 as Forza or GT (only sims I have played, can't speak for PC based sims)

I've been playing with default settings and all assists off, because I'll occasionally run into rooms where either or both are disabled entirely, so I train myself to not rely on either one.

That is true. I have been trying out more of the online portion and because I have relied so much on certain tunings, when I get into a room with default tune settings, it takes a bit to adjust.

New event up!

1:28.899 RMR PM580.

I don't have photo proof right now, because the leaderboard hasn't updated yet. If someone really demands proof, then give me 24 hours.

btw don't get all happy if you used an SX4. :P

edit: don't forget to state which car you used!

I'll be the first challenger I guess.

1:28.444 with the RMR PM580 - I could have gone at least 3/10ths faster if I hadn't brushed the snow bank on the final corner, but I'm happy with my time nontheless.

Nice stuff. The RMR is pretty unforgivable in corners, unlike the SX4 which can make up for those mistakes with its sheer power. If you let the car eat at angles, you get sluggish results you can't recover.

I did give the SX4 a go on my first attempt, but I couldn't manage to get a time below 1:30 whilst using that car. Sure, it'll make mincemeat out of the RMR in a straight line, but it just doesn't quite cut it for me in terms of it's handling capabilities.

Oh really now?

Truthfully, I stopped driving the SX4 after one or two trailblazers offline... Though I did feel how fast the car accelerated, I also felt how easily it could lose control over a bump so I avoided using it ever since. Perhaps I should try it again for this week.

HAH, I managed to beat you by a hairstrand just now!

1:28.278

Event 2 isn't over for another 2 hours from this post, but I'm putting up the Event 3 anyway since it seems like no one is going to put up a time for Event 2.
