Well the thing already exists and if someone can do it, so can you.. I could start making up rules not enforced by the game, but then why should one follow it, or how would I know someone was or wasn't using a shorter method (like wall riding or half donuts)? If I don't make such rules, I won't run into this sort of problem. If using said methods are required to beat someone else's time for this EOTW, then why should it be banned? No one is physically restricted from doing, therefore anyone can do it, and thus by not doing it, that person simply chose not to.

Just my 2 cents on the whole thing.

Again, I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, you're spot on there's no point trying to rule over these things. I'm just saying it's a shame there are these little tricks which ultimately bring out huge gaps and I don't think they're great events for time trialling ultimately because of it.

Yup yup, I completely agree.. so do you still want your time on the scoreboard? :P

My guts tell me that if you want bigger participation you have to set challenges that are achievable to the group rather then such a high difficulty level that takes pushing the meaning of the event and turns people off to the challenge.

So you guys aren't capable of doing Gymkhana events?

New event up early again.

Alot of people seem to think it's super hard (as we've seen in the what do you think of gymkhana thread). I honestly don't see this difficulty, I mean sure getting near the top times is pretty fiddly but that's not exactly untrue of other events .

Difficult or not, you're not forced to participate. If you don't want to do Gymkhana events, then just wait for next week's event. 👍

I've been busy during the past few days, so I wasn't able to post a time for the previous event. I may be crap when it comes to Gymkhana, but I would have given it a go just to see how well I could do.

Anyway, I should attempt the new event when I have some spare time.

I'm all good w/ this event, like Al Bundy said "Lets Rock"

I hope that it doesn't take a DLC car to win this so I'll be using what ever comes w/ the game pounding my team Jerry's Kids auto-trans

I've tried the RS200 and that Renault, have to try the Audi still.

I should have done this from the start, and that was to try every single car and learn more about each one... discover special unique traits about each car and find out which event is better suited for each.

Check out the World Board and how many people are just 3 seconds out

--------------------- UPDATE ---------------------------

Finally had a chance to blast some laps w/ the Lancer Quatro

0:27.766

Just slid into the top 100 :)

------------------- UPERDATE -----------------------------

Looks like it's the Lancer Quatro 4 me :)

0:27.676 (proof on the World Board)

Top 55 now

I just hit the top 50 in the other event for this track (RallyCross) :)

So, my fastest time so far whilst using the default setup was 0:27.742 (MG Metro 6R4).

I use the Quattro roughly 90% of the time for Group B rallycross races, so naturally I decided to use that car first. My lap times weren't too bad, but I thought that I could try out the other 2 cars I have available to use and see if I could do any better (I haven't downloaded the DLC packs, so I don't have the 205 or Delta S4). I noticed that the Ford RS200's default gear ratios were shorter than the Quattro's, which made negotiating the final hairpin much easier, plus I knocked about 3/10ths off my original best lap time. The brakes seemed sharper on the RS200 as well which meant I could brake later into the first and final corners, thus reducing my lap times ever so slightly.

The Metro 6R4 is fairly similar to the RS200 in terms of the lap times produced on this track. I only managed to beat the time I set in the RS200 by 1/10th of a second, but I noticed that the Metro was a tiny bit quicker on the straight sections which isn't what I expected, seeing as it's the least powerful car available, but at least I set a decent lap time with it.

Also, I presume that you can actually use a custom vehicle setup for this event, or am I wrong?

I haven't banned vehicle setups, so tune your heart out.

Funny, the on thing I don't like about the RS200 is that when you turn a bit too much, you get all that oversteer and suddenly you lost a ton of speed on the last hairpin.... If I do it right, I can e-brake for the slightest bit in the Metro and get out of that a LOT quicker.

And LeftyWright, I desperately hope when you said "Lancer", you meant "Lancia"...

I guess it was too many Barley Pops  I was driving the Quatro :dunce:

@AOS: Why isn't my time on your leader board?

Oh well I just cracked into the top 30 :)

27.504 Using the MG (Worlds fastest MG time)

Let me guess, the Quattro has weak power in the lower revs which totally kills your time at the last hairpin?

Put the gear ratios shorter and that problem should be cured to an extent if it is an issue (not ran this combo).

Yup, I've done that and put the brake bias on the rear to get a bit of oversteer after hard braking through the two turns to help me get through them a little quicker...

I just love taking the slowest car and pushing it to the max, but in this case the MG's short wheel base worked to my style. It's more of a handling deal for me and not a shifting issue. I can cary more Mo and then button hook the thing and I'm heading in the other direction :)

Best time that I set a couple of days ago, 0:27.567 (Metro 6R4).

The annoying thing is, I wasn't that quick during the first half of my fastest lap, but I absolutely nailed the final hairpin. Whenever I try to beat my best time now, I can easily get a lead of about 8/100ths of a second halfway through the lap, but after hours of trying I just can't repeat what I did at the final corner. I always seem to lose about 2/10ths of a second by the end of the lap.

And I was so close to matching LeftyWright69's time as well.

I was having the exact same scenario... it's so tough trying to replicate a single turn sometimes...

I just love small WFO tracks and I run them lap after lap until I enter the zone and then all the little things that I didn't notice before become visable and I can squize it just a little bit harder. This game is just so drivable and fun.

@AOS: I just hope your next choice for the combo is a track of some kind :) This one makes up for my frustration from the Hoonin......

Yo "A", if this was real I would just check out, but since I didn't buy the game for that (the stunt stuff) it's your call. If a video game doesn' have the kind of feel I need to go fast then I do what comes natch and thats closed corse or endurance off road events.

I'm not shy when It comes to the stunt stuff, it's just that I'm not motivated to try to hone my skills in that area, besides I think that my DFGT wheel isn't responsive enough for me to enjoy it.

My first Dirt 3 video showing my run that generated the time of 1:20.120.

NEW UPCOMING CHANGE (EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 2011): Due to School Scheduling, I will NOT be available Tuesdays to establish a new event. I will have to change the due date to either Sunday or Thursday.

- AOS.

Which day do you guys prefer?

P.S. If anyone would like to volunteer taking over for the time being, please PM me.

Hmm...I would rather the date was changed to Sunday rather that Thursday.

As for my time, I managed to do a 1:19.400 using the Fiesta Rally (which is a car I hardly ever use). Even though I tested out all of the cars available for this event, I found that I wasn't able to get a decent time with the Mini, a car which I've always liked in reality but never been fond of in DiRT3.

I like how everyone is almost always a step ahead of me.... :indiff:

Where has my motivation gone? Actually I just might be motivated again if I banned Vehicle Setups... One less factor to think about when it comes to beating other people's times 💡

I am wondering why you would ban the adjusting? The cars in the game are as elementry to adjust as it gets. If there was an arcade area like GT5 I'd say cool but I haven't found it. How would it be policed? How could you ever tell? All you can do is make the cars more user friendly and our times would never have a chance at pounding the world board.

I would think that motivating top tens would be a way to promote this competition and GTP on the world stage. I use my GTP_ login to try to intimidate others that members from this forum are to be respected and feared.

What about DLC cars? Would they be baned? I tried to buy one of the packs and the game wouldn't coroperate. It would always give an error in downloading the pack. The stupid game won't ever load any of the Fn WR ghost anymore, so making the cars more to my liking is my only chance at getting a decent finish on the World Board.
