Reading all these horror stories made my mind. I've been playing FC for more than a week now, I think I'll keep it that way until sunday. Then, when hopefully the servers are a litle less busy, I'll try this download.

(btw, my decision comes also from the fact that the new events don't look promising. I had a full month of great races and fun in Suzuka 600PP and then the W.e. F430 vs. GTR. HSR or Fuji 750 just don't interest me)
 
On maybe the 40th try suddenly it just popped up and said install complete.

Just keep retrying over and over, resetting the PS3 over and over.

Stupid and a waste of our time? Yes
 
i had download problems, kept the ps3 on for 5 hours finally got the update runing, I honestly dont see why they cant just update from the xmb like most games do, or give us other options to update eg flash drive etc, i know the updates big but youv get less chance of it failing & the whole restart from last point is bull mine kept going from the begining and wasnt speeding up
 
I got at the first try within 15 minutes at around 500/800 KB/s :)

I have a 20 Mbit ADSL connection, looks like PD has regional servers for the update ;)
 
did you download it earlier today or just now, tbh i think it might have been server load. but theres always reports of the updates failing, I feel sorry for the people who cant update at all

I'm not sure that there are many games that update from the XMB (I think Motorstorm does it for additional content). Most off the games I have update from the game itself. I suppose this is because the game is the only one that knows about the filestructure inside the single big game file on the harddisk
 
sorry i didnt really explain much i ment games were it shows you like a tile icon and updates with a black screen,

I see what you mean: downloading first and then installing. Yes, that would better. BTW, try updating Everybody's Golf. First it downloads everthing which is quite fast but then it installs thousands of little files (it lists them one by one) which takes ages :nervous:
 
It took me 4 tries until the update worked - 2 hours in all before I finally got it running. Decided to download 2 videos from GT-TV, 7 hours after starting the video downloads, it's only at 10% :crazy:

when you first boot the game up and it says "new update available" ignore that and go to the online option in the "my page" screen and download the update from there. Seemed to work for me doing it that way.

Started downloading 6 am EST, had to leave for work, so I left it going. Came home to find it failed at about 50%. Since then nonstop I've had no luck, every 20 seconds =fail, and I'd love to try the recommended way, but I don't feel comfortable shutting off and restarting the ps3 every 60 seconds or so. I've never had any problems before.

It's really freaking boring!
 
This is really bad. First couple of tries were like 2-3% failures, then I got a 18% one (approx of course), and ever since I've been getting between 0 and 2% always failing. It's really ****ing horrific. They should have learnt by now what we do to their servers
 
Does yours also pop up with an ok-box first, then a box with two selections, and when you choose to update, it goes through a progress bar very quickly, and then starts on what seems to be the download-bar? (I have the Japanese version)
 
Four and a half hours and countless errors for me.
If it is true that part of this update improves future downloads why oh why couldn't PD have split this update and gave us that part first?
 
Wow 315... From what it looks like mine is going for something like it too.. I don't have the patience to just sit and press the button though, but it still fails every time I try. I must have tried 40 times at least though
 
I wouldn't either have the patience if the sixaxis wouldn't have such a good range. I am just lying in bed watching the tv and just constantly pressing the X button...

I think the japanese are going to bed now, I'm having much greater connection all of a sudden. Keeps failing at 33% now. Wont be long!

Edit: Considering it's 19.50 in japan I don't think they're going to bed. Reinforcement on the server front perhaps? Maybe just luck

My update went like this: I tried to download a least 100 times. Every time I started to download, my bar showed zero or maybe it came to 1%. Every download last max. half minute. After many attempts I finally saw "your update is downloaded". So don't give up!
 
So I thought I would give the update a go and see what the game offered me now. Although for the past 20minutes it's been sitting at a little more than 50%. The HDD light isn't flashing either. No error message yet though. Does this mean it's going to error? I would like it to either do it or not do it so I can either retry it or play it.

**Ok it just failed on me so I'm going to give it another go. Hopefully it works this time.

**** Managed to get in installed, only 3 failures so not that bad I suppose.
