May I remind everyone that even through enforced censorship the story of Jesus spread rapidly. The story is definitely more than a myth.
Why is that? It happens to be the biggest religion on the planet, but that doesn't prove anything.
That there is historical evidence that distinguishes it from any other religion on the planet.
Evidence? What kind of evidence? As pointed out numerous times, no proof for the existence of Jesus has yet been found.

I'm not talking about whether the religion is ultimately true or not, although I know that it is.

I'm talking about historical evidence that points to it being the most influential religion to have affected man, globally and historically. The point is then that not all religions are equal as has been suggested. If you tried to tell me that unicorns exist, and maybe 100 people on the planet were involved in a unicorn following, it would not be equal to the billions of people that have followed the teachings of Christ, and likewise shouldn't be considered equally. This is obvious.

The fact that it was able to spread across the world so rapidly is a pointer. People will never die for something they think is not real, and many people have risked execution spreading the word of God shortly after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Just because somebody believes something is real and is willing to die for it doesn't make it true. Case in point: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heaven's_Gate_(religious_group)

By your reasoning, because these people believed in it so strongly that they killed themselves for it, it must be true?

They didn't kill themselves, they willingly accepted martyrdom.

Whatever delusions they may have had about where they were going doesn't change the fact that they died by their own hands, by their own actions. They killed themselves.

Besides, you missed the point entirely. Let me re-word it, so you can stop focusing on the wrong part:

By your reasoning, because these people believed in it so strongly that they killed themselves died for it, it must be true?

If you are forced into religion, like it happened, yes, it will spread rapidly.

I really need to stop posting in this thread. [Yoda]Pointless it is.[/Yoda]

No, and the bible story is just wrong and isn't coherent with the science explanation to the existence.

The begining alone is wrong. It says the humans were created around the 6th or 7th day after the creation of the earth. Well, based on that, were do dinosaurs fit in? We never coexisted with them...
And according to a book I recently read there are many more history based errors in the bible.

And heck, I'll launch one more question. God made us exist, uh? Then who made God exist? He/She couldn't have just popped up out of nowhere. Right?

Nothing or no one made God. God lies out of the barriers of time. He is also non-material.

The god that exists in your mind might have these convenient characteristics, but you've hardly answered the question with this nonsense.

It's been explained dozens of times, and you continue to hide behind the convenience of "god is beyond all things, therefore can't be disproven." I'm not interested in trying to break through that anymore.

"So God created man in his own image"

.

The bible is contradicting itself in so many ways, it becomes funny.

After the family sex of the Adam and Eve family, the whole world drowns, except Noah and his family. Again redneck sex. Or did they hump somebody who survived the flood? Or some of the animals who where on Noah's ship?

Yes. God created man in his image. He gave us a stance that is not found anywhere else in the animal kingdom and he gave us the ability to be moral etc.

Brilliant. I can't wait to see how they try and shoot this down.

I see it like this :

We are GODS.

A lot of animals seem to have the same abilities to be moral to each other, show intelligence, and do not start wars.

Where is their god?

You act as if that was condoned. God created man in his image, then sin entered the world and all of man and creation became corrupted. Man was no longer in unity with God, the world became a sinful place, and thus follow the events that eventually led to Jesus's coming.

But again, our biblic ancestors seem to have a lifestyle with a redneckish tint to it, twice, actually.

We are not 'Gods', there is only one God according to Christianity. We start wars because we disobeyed God in the fall of man. We are born into a world of sin.

They were sinners, it's not surprising. And if we all came from the same two beings, we are all inbred anyway. God's plan for his people to multiply from the same two beings is not the same thing as lustful and impure thinking, which is what we associate today with your so-called 'redneck' imbreeding.

Do not use the attitude of a majority against the opinion of the minority. There are lots of bad people who are 'Christians', and there are lots of bad people who are atheists too. Sometimes atheists are nicer people that religious people, and sometimes the opposite. Your point doesn't hold water.

That's what the bible says. I say we are GODS. It's all the same silly talk.

Noah was cleansed of his sins, wasn't he?

My point is, Adam and Eve children had sex with each other, and so must have Noah's children.

So it holds a lot of water, like a flood.

Brilliant. I can't wait to see how they try and shoot this down.

But obviously, you're not here to actually listen to any explanation. You've already chosen not to believe, why would someone on the internet change your mind all of a sudden?

So, should I bother to explain my take on it? Will you listen to my opinion and allow me the "privilege" of sharing it? Or are you simply going to turn it into a joke and come back with the age-old "saying God is beyond comprehension is just a lame excuse" routine?

Yeah, but you can't use your own beliefs to attack Christianity in a debate. If you think we are all Gods then that's nice, but what does that have to do with my post?

Nothing or no one made God. God lies out of the barriers of time. He is also non-material.

That didn't answer about the existance of God. And what exactly are the barriers of time to you? If he's non-material he's a ghost, if he's a ghost is he/she dead? Therefore ghosts are Gods? Mini-gods perhaps? :dopey:

And you gave me no answer about the creation of the earth/humans and where dinosaurs and MANY other species fit in just 6 days. Unless dinosaurs are like many people call the Moon voyage or UFOs of, hoaxes...

I share my vision, as you show your (the bibles) vision.

Your post stated that god is nothing like us, yet we are shaped to his image, and with that logic, when you and I look into a mirror, we see god.

I am an early Christian so therefore I lack knowledge and often find it hard to answer the questions in this thread.
As I have said there is only one God. He does live. I tried to explain why this assumption was logical back a few pages when I was talking about infinite regress and 'cause and effect'.
