Do you have a MaxDrive, X-port or Sharkport ?

Flat-out
Main reason is because it's almost 11pm for me here, it's probably 4 or 5pm only for you, and Aussie will wake up soon.
And how can you chat while racing on-line ? Unless you have your PC on-line too, next to your seat and you're logged on MSN.
Plus the fact that the number of cars is limited.
I know some do it from time, but I've never tried myself.

+ the lag on gt4 is horrific if you're not on a lan.
me and my friends have a VPN tunnel between our gateway router machines, so our playstations already *think* they're on a lan together without special software.
but from NY to Colorado, the lag is impossible. (at only ~50ms)
i can't immagine the horor of NY to England, where the ping is > 120.

basically if you're getting a ping > 30 between two people... don't even try and play gt4... its LAN only becase it doesn't have proper net-code to facilitate internet play.

I race online almost every night, and race against other drivers in Holland, France and Germany (I'm UK) with a ping >60. Anything after that it starts to get dodgy. If I'm racing aganinst one other driver, a ping of 70 is ok, 80 only if you're really desperate for a race, and anything above that, forget it.

Max drive arrived today, Quite easy to use (even for a tinternet vigin like me :D). Within half an hour I'd posted a replay for the WRS and downloaded a few division 1 replays, (damn those guys really are aliens ).

Well now there's a problem with my Max Drive. On the PS2 program, it doesn't even recognize that there are any files on it at all, except when I add them during that session. But on my computer, there are like 8 different replays and I can't delete them!

Everything is said to be write protected. So deleting it within the computer max drive program gets me "An Error occured deleting this file." And if i do it from the folder itself, i get "Cannot delete - the disc is write protected."

I can't add files from my computer to the max drive, because I get simply get "an error occured when trying to copy this file."

The next thing I tried was to reformat it. Went to the command prompt, typed in "format g:" and got another write protection error. Same exact error when I try to format from within the computer program.

So does anyone know what's going on with my Max Drive and how to fix it?

If it's a genuine silver coloured maxdrive?

Check the slide switch on the side of the unit!

Guess what? It's a lock switch that stops the contents being changed!

Brilliant sir. Thanks a lot! I remember checking the little book about what the switch did before, but found nothing.

Well now that I have THAT under controll, I can finally focus on more important things . . . like racing.

I did the same thing today with my shiny new max drive. Took me ten minutes to twig what I was doing wrong. :dunce:

Believe it of not, it's THE most common problem in the retail electronics business.

I used to work at a shop called Dixons (the largest electrical retail company in the UK), and I would regularly( at least twice a week) get someone in saying "Mister, my cd player/walkman/mp3 won't work. It's broken" And all it was 99% of the time was the hold switch!

Same thing.

I had a rather worried phone call from a friend with a very expensive DVD player back when they were a fairly new technology. He couldn't get it to do anything. when I arrived at his place to find all his entertainment system all over the living room floor all hooked up trying to check connections and so forth. I picked up the remote only to discover one of the buttons stuck down under the casing, flicked the button out, problem solved.

He felt very, very, silly.

Yes well cmon the hold switch is a bit different. All the manual needed to say was "The switch on the side makes it impossible to do anything if you have it in the LOCK position."

But from when I looked at it, nothing was there. And cmon, a little lock with one being open and the other being closed, I doubt that anyones 1st guess as to what it's for is "Oh I bet this makes everything write protected so I cant delete it!!"

What?

Are you serious?

Those symbols are universal, and so simple people with IQ's of 6 can work it out.:D

Y'know, two pictures of a lock, one closed.........one open......?

Just winding you up! maybe?

I went out to EB Games and, long story short, the guy said something to the effect of the MAXDrive is now a banned retail product. Has anybody else heard anything about this?
I ordered one from PlayAsia about three weeks ago, but they have been on backorder this whole time. If I can't get one through retail, does anyone know any sites other than PlayAsia that I can order a MAXDrive from?

i voted 'will have' but now i 'have one' so if an admin could change that in the poll results all will be up to date.
it works fine for me (ubersaves, replays getting and bringing) but the filenaming business is something to look at next time for the manufacturer.

I have a Sharkport. Used it all the time when I made GT3 Hybrids. I bought a max drive a couple years ago but never ended up using it.
