Ok then what do we think are the chances of something big happening on the 21st but only because so many people believe it will that it becomes a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, so say someone over reacts to something (that could of happened on any other day without causing to much of a stir) on the 21st due to their beliefs which other people then see as a sign it really is the end and they too over react and before we know it the whole world is on fire but obviously all this hysteria is down to the prediction, if there hadn't been the prediction there wouldn't be the hysteria and nothing bad would have happened.

Zero. I think the world population couldn't care less about this non-issue.

Fair enough, perhaps me saying what are the chances wasn't the best choice of words, anyway although I agree its a non issue I feel a percentage of the population are aware that there is some sort of prediction for that day, now even if those people do not believe in the prediction it will alter their thinking about anything slightly unusual that happens on the 21st, I know that might sound strange but I've seen it been proved in studies on conspiracy theories I.e. Hearing conspiracy theories (or any other type of belief for that matter!) even if you reject it does affect your opinion.

My music teacher told me about this, this all started from the Mayan Calender. It supposedly predicting when the spanish would come, and other events have also have been predicted. For some reason the calender ends on December 21 2012, do you think it's the end of the world.

No, and I don't believe in the Tooth Fairy either...:)

What if, only one guy knew how to write the calendar. So when he died, that was when the calendar ended....

I voted I don't know. I don't believe the world will end on the 21st and don't see why anyone should, but there's always a slim possibility of the world ending on any given day, so we can't say with 100% certainty it won't end on the 21st. If it did, it wouldn't have anything to do with the Mayan calendar, though.

One of 3 things will happen to humans

1: Killed off
2: Made into slaves(Planet of the Apes Style)
3: Small pockets off surviving humans will form resistance groups(Terminator Style)

I prefer No. 3, I'd open up the radio one day hoping to hear "...I am John Conner, and YOU ARE THE RESISTANCE!"

Really, when the day comes, even if it isn't yet the end of the world, I'm worried some really bad people would create a man made disaster. :scared:

In the end, we will be responsible for own downfall.

Just gonna play video games till it happens.

And I will know if it didn't happen. Because I'd still be gunzerking a nuke launcher and a minigun that shoots explosives.

Not gonna **** my pants till I see actual/current visible evidence that something is really huge is going to hit the fan really fast.

I dont think it'll be the end of the world. Technically, the Mayans didnt count what we call "Leap Years" so we should've died a long while ago. From what I hear though, supposedly the 21st is when all the planets will be in line with each other so that should be cool.

Yes for the first time they will with three sun

If it does end im gonna be bit annoyed. waited a good few years for GTA V, and then i'm not going to be able to play it. now that would be the end of the world :sly:

If the world did end on the 21st I would spend my last day at college as it is the last day of college before christmas.

Now that sucks.

Which one is more likely...
1. The world ending
2. The illuminati new world order (basically the world now ending and becoming the new world order)

Or 3. Velociraptor zombies emerge and eliminate the human race down to a few hundred survivors.

Well if that happens like tech n9ne said "one by one and two by two I have ammo what about you?"

The 21st is our last day of term, my last day at work before the holidays, and the day of our annual Christmas 'lunch' that involves going for a beer a midday, followed by an Indian meal (with beer), and then going to the pub from ~ 2 pm to closing time. No matter what happens, I'm going to miss December 22nd anyway.

Okay, here's my rock solid proof that the world will infact not end.

Marty McFly went to 2015, and Nero says that Decemeber 1st, 2808 is Doomsday.

There, point proven.

Also got me thinking. A major breakout of this

Just remember the very important rules. Specially rule number 2

And if you can't live up to rule number 1 then one of these...

 We'll be in the same state then as my work's Chrimbo lunch is on the 21st. If our evil alien overlords turn up and start throwing their weight around... then they'd better be prepared for what might happen! ;)

"He's not worth it" "look, we've all been through hyperspace..." "You're going home in a intergalactic ambulance" :dopey:

I did some more research on this subject and found that not to be accurate.

The long count calendar that the 2012 prediction is based on wasn't a solar calendar so therefore didn't need to account for leap years. Basically we know how many days are in a long count calendar, 1,872,000, and we take that number and start at 11th August 3114 BCE, which is part of the Georgian calendar we currently use. So leap days were taken into account.

Someone actually went ahead and figured it all out in GMT as well. You can read about it in this Wiki article:

Correlations between Western calendars and the Long Count

As for the planet alignment, basically it ends up being an optical illusion for us on Earth because of the distances. The planet looks like they are in a line, but they aren't. In fact planets line up quite frequently.

Here's a pretty quick write up on that:

Planetary Alignment No Cause For Alarm

You know that leap years don't magically create a new day from the armpit of time, right?

Oh of course it won't end, there's enough archaeological evidence to say the Mayans didn't think that either. The whole thing was dreamt up in the 70's by Jose Arguelles looking to push some New Age mysticism.

And if you look at archaeological and historical evidence the current era (bak'tun cycle) the Mayans were talking about ending doesn't actually happen till year 4772. Still my favourite thing to point out is that the Mayan calendar doesn't actually end untill 41,341,049,999,999,999,999,999,994,879 years in to the future (I'm so glad I wrote all this stuff down).

thats alot of numbers. thanks for the lesson, time for me to spread the word that the world wont end and that hostess has a chance to make a comeback!!
