Oh of course it won't end, there's enough archaeological evidence to say the Mayans didn't think that either. The whole thing was dreamt up in the 70's by Jose Arguelles looking to push some New Age mysticism.

And if you look at archaeological and historical evidence the current era (bak'tun cycle) the Mayans were talking about ending doesn't actually happen till year 4772. Still my favourite thing to point out is that the Mayan calendar doesn't actually end untill 41,341,049,999,999,999,999,999,994,879 years in to the future (I'm so glad I wrote all this stuff down).

You learn something every day.

I still don't see why anyone would care what the mayans thought.

I've been told that the guy who "discovered" that the Mayans "predicted" the apocalypse has no formal education on the Mayan culture. In fact, I believe he is the founder of Planet ARK, and probably started the talk of an apocalypse in 2012 as a way of rallying support to his environmental campaigns.

AFAIK - there are still around 5 million Mayans alive - most in Gautamala, maybe a few in Mexico. The greater part of their civilization were supposed to have been wiped out by famine around 1200 years ago - though there is no conclusive evidence for any of the various hypotheses for their disappearance.

As for what the World will be after December 21st this year?
A little more arrogant about its fictional invulnerability, I guess.

Would be funny if the number match.

Just be 100's of 1000's of people like me laughing in the face of people who so adimantly believe in it.

Can't spell adimantly :(

Recently I've seen reports of fear and panic buying in Russia and China over the supposed impending December 21, 2012 apocalypse. I'm unsure how widespread this is, and hope it's only in pockets. If millions or billions of emotional people all around the world started to fear the same thing at the same time, it may be that some kind of sympathetic resonance may self-generate some unfortunate consequences!

On the other hand, something really bad could actually happen on that day, much as it could happen on any other. We don't know the future, and the future is not written in stone. But! If it does happen, then we will all look back at it and exclaim how marvelous is human intuition, and how mysterious and inscrutable are the ways of nature.

With climate changing, sea levels rising, storms and earthquakes wrecking nuclear reactors, religious fanatics from West Point to Damascus potentially threatening everyone with WMD's, who knows what and (more to the point) when and where something very bad will happen?

Perhaps it is a blessing NOT to know the future? Even so, there seems to be something deep within the human psyche that is drawn to apocalypse and Armageddon. Should the fateful day pass without incident, there likely will be no shortage of prophets of doom emerge from the shrubbery to regale us of new dangers and fears to come.

Respectfully submitted,
Steve

*Nostradamus horse thing*

Nostradamus said a lot of things. A lot of deliberately vague things. He hasn't 'predicted' anything, people simply interpret his words to suit their own whims. Much like the Bible.

I think it would have to be EST... the Mayans never crossed the date-line. :D

There will be nothing change in any things.. so many master minds proved that there will be lot of days to live here.. recently i visted a site which is full mathematical they have added a calcullator as mayan calendar which show some freaky images and that images have some count. based in the count they proved there will be a comma to worlds end..
http://easycalculation.com/date-day/mayan-calendar.php i beleive there will be no fulll stop this calendar proves and its worth full to believe guys..

Nah, the day the world ends is when I die, and I'll be happy somewhere else anyway. :dopey:

On the day the world ends, I am going to be destroying everyone and everything in Borderlands 2.

NAILED IT.

The world won't end, or industry would have collapsed by now. But hey, if it does end we have the privilege of seeing Earth tearing itself apart!

I believe the world will end for some, but not for everyone. Some people will die on the 21st from either disease or fatal accidents (such as getting hit by a drunk driver/distracted driver, or a shooting, or chocking on food, or falling down stairs, and so on) but will not end for everyone.

This has been discussed before on this thread.

People were talking about this 5 years ago? This fake prediction is older then I thought..
Ohh how stupid this theory is...they lie about one theory and make another.

Some people are talking about tommorrow (12-12-12) the earth will stand still...what a joke.

wait so just because a calender ends on a date, that means the world will end? what a joke. Thats like saying an average calender that has the last record able date as December 31st 2015 the last day?
My phone goes all the way to December 31st 2099, i guess i better tell my future grandkids about the new end of the world date.

Well it's 12:30 AM on 12-12-12 and I'm all good :sly:

I can't wait to laugh at those who believe(ed) the world is going to end, on the 22nd of course.

Oh the world just stood still OH SH-

oh wait, it's just me, procrastinating when I should be finishing my finals project. I wanna see how many nutjobs actually do something stupid the 21st. I'm sure we'll see something on the news about someone.

I looked at my clock earlier on today, and it was the 12th second, of the 12th minute, of the 12th hour, on the 12th day, of the 12th month, of 2012 :D

Today is the last repetitive day any human will ever see!

Not true, the last repetetive day was the 12.12.1212 (they didn't use our date format back then though of course). The way you counted, it would be possible again on the 01.01.2101. ;)

Oh god, today is so unique! Just like every other day in the entire history of time! :sly:

Incidentally, if the world ends, do those islands in the Pacific just on the wrong side of the international date line get to observe the end of the world, but not experience it for 24 hours?
