Do you think PD is biased towards Japanese cars?

What nationality is Turn 10? The guys who made Forza? Aren't they American?

I don't own the game but I've never heard of any major bias toward any particular country in terms of vehicles.

I'm not starting (yet another) GT5 Forza argument. I'm just saying that other companies have operated without an obvious bias like that... There are plenty of American cars and tons of European cars that GT5 would be much better off for having.

I know the reason is that it's probably tons easier for them to get their hands on Japanese cars. But come on, Sony and PD ain't broke, if they want their game too be the best, they need to hook us up with some more rides. :)

Forza games seem very US biased, the S7 is always stupidly quick in Forza, even though its actually made in Britain! haha.

Yeah. Just look at the enduros. Most of them have japanese cars as opponents.

The Minolta and GT One are maybe the best non F1 cars in the game, eventhough those two could never ever get close to the 908 in real life.
The Mazda 787B is far to fast.

Japanese sports cars are way to easy to control. Drive a LP640, a 599 and then a R34 GT-R.

In the used car lot 80% of the cars are japanese.

Yes but it's to be expected. It doesn't bother me much though. I buy mostly American and European cars in the Premium dealership and supe'm up and have fun with them. Just wish they would make DLC packages geared for U.S. and European players, maybe one day.

I think some people wrongly believe that american cars handle well. that is all

They handle as well as any other. "American" cars are built all over the world by designers of every nationality. At the tuner level the parts come from the aftermarket anyway. Generalizations don't do anyone any good. Even US built production cars can be world-class or better. CR-V, Z06, Viper.

"PD" is biased toward Japanese cars? Um, no.

PD did not make GT4 I don't think, so, the tradition is that LOTS of european and japanese cars are glutted into every release of GT. Been true at least since GT3.

I am really annoyed by it too. There are MORE skylines and bluebirds in it then US cars alltogether. How many of all the cars are Nissan? There's tons.

I like to keep the following in mind when I think about the number of Japanese cars in the game:

Apart from the Toyota 7 in 1970,

ANY of the American Cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s run laps around EVERY Japanese car of the 50s, 60s and 70s.

And many of them would even win against the Toyata 7.

ehhhh. I don't think they are. And for the people saying they didn't put enough American cars in the game or "they drive crappy". well....that's because most American cars are gutless pieces of sh** haha. And if they probably drive better in the game than in real life. sorry, just expressing my disappointment in American cars...... 30 - 40 years and some cars still use the same technology as their previous generations

(just my opinion so don't reply negatively)

I don`t think that american high performance vehicle drive that crappy. The ZR1 is a great car. Maybe americcan every day cars have worse handling then lets say a c-class Mercedes or a 3 series BWM.

The ZR1 is a great car.
Yes, a Enzo is head and shoulders above it, but its a 700000€ car which was designed to be a world beater and exotic at once.

Hm, don`t know, yesterday I saw in youtube how the Stig took out a 575M out for a powerlap and it beat the aston martin vanquish (which was new back then) and also managed to produce the same lap time as a corvette Z06. The 575M is based on 2002 technologies.
Maybe old american cars behaved much worse then their european counterparts?

I think some people wrongly believe that american cars handle well. that is all

That's an extremely biased, misinformed generalization. Contrary to what you seem to think, American cars are not all overpowered, understeering hulks. The Corvetter ZR1 can run with the best.

It takes skill but get it right and this car is quick! I intend to collect the 5 other factory ZR1 colors for fun (i have the jetstream blue, a passionate pink and a silver chrome car already).. like the name says is all i gotta say... i love vettes!

Yeah, there's 3 (possibly 4) that sure is a LOT of cars.

Ok, sure be a smarta$$. These are all the NISSANs

Tell me how thats not a lot, ok? Be sure to be snarky. 👎 :ill:

The answer to the question is yes, they're a Japanese company. Does there really have to be a huge discussion on this anymore? :indiff:

50+ variations of Mazda Roadsters, Subaru STis and Skylines show no bias at all.

Not to mention, extensive NSXs and useless Suzukis and Daihatsus.

Well, they've made a poor attempt to conceal their bias by putting a SLS AMG as their game cover.

EVERYONE uses "old" technology. With the exception of computers: overhead cams, carburetors, disc brakes, fuel injection, radial tires, LSD, aluminum blocks, etc were all invented and used before the Japanese built their first car! And don't forget the tech you can't see such as R&D and manufacturing.

Not knocking anyone just stating facts. Mercedes built the first car over a hundred years ago. Everyone can be said to be copying them!

The US automakers produce VVT high RPM turbo direct injection DOHC engines just like the Japanese do. Many "American" cars are imports anyway.

Although:
The Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are built in the US from American parts and labor!

Be interesting to see a breakdown of sales figures by world region. Unless Japan and the Far East is the dominant buyers of the game, it is pretty much a "🤬 you" to the rest of us.

Ah it's not that bad. It does expose the world to different region's cars which is good, albeit in an unbalanced way.

I agree with a lot of people that say that PD is biased. It doesn't bother me, however, that there are a lot of cars from Japan, but this is a game that was released worldwide. They should have included more Euro, US and UK cars for sure. And why so many Skylines etc, is beyond me. Think of it like this: you pick up a copy of FIFA, and since EA is an American based company, the only teams they include are MLS and Mexican. Maybe they give you one or two other teams, like Man U...or Barca...but they don't have the real players...only made up ones. People would be irate. Well, It bothers me that we are treated the same way. We get a few muscle cars from the US, a sprinkling of UK and Euro cars, but an overwhelming amount of Japanese cars. If they are making a global release, they should have global content.

I don't understand the "they're japanese, so of course" mentality. They're a global business, period.

Yeah. Couldn't be because it's a cool car, or because of the marketing arrangement around the special edition contest.

Europe bought the majority of GT5. I think it was 3 - 4 million copies.

North America bought around 1.5 million copies.

Japan bought I think like 600 - 800k copies.

I'm a little off on the figures. They came from another thread around here somewhere. Not sure how I'd go about finding it again.

Edit:
I was kinda close.

They're going to do what they know. It's natural. If you want american cars play FM3.

FM3 actually has a very good balance of cars. Have you seen their car list? Beautiful balance of cars from all regions. Sure its half the size of what GT has, but thats just because they have cars that are unique and mostly relevant, meaning no 50 Skylines, or 20 MX-5 etc etc. PD needs to step their game up when it comes to picking cars. Ya they have no Porsche license, but why not go out and get newer RUF models? Why no new Mustang? Why does Maserati only have the Gran Turismo, where is the MC12?

I am not complaining but I do wish for more variety. I voted in the voting section for the inclusion of a few cars I like. Maybe PD will take notice. In fact maybe DLC will be how they add cars. Hopefully for free but I'd pay a buck for a car I want.
