Does anybody actually rally willingly?

What I mean is, does anybody rally outside of Special Conditions? I know it's not "real" rallying, but I find it pretty fun to go to the Grand Canyon with my Delta S4 and live out my Group B fantasies. :D I hear alot of bickering about how terrible it is, but it's very fun once you get the hang of it. I personally think it's great for testing out your driving technique aswell. 👍

So, anybody like to do it?

I have enjoyed the odd rally race where theres no 5 second penalty, it's the special conditions rallies I don't do willingly.

I did all the Special Stages in a Lotus and it taught me alot on how to convert the car set up wise to be good fun on the loose stuff.

Once you actually know the car it is great, once you know the tracks then you begin to push the edge. The trouble with the rally stages is the other car.
But again once you have the confidence in your car and knowledge of the track ahead then you can perform some good over taking moves.

Best advice for the rally stages I can give is to take each on in order, rather than waiting a few months to have a crack at Chamonix hard.

But I have to say I've never really thought about time trialing alone on the tracks. I think the prize car and big cash rewards of the Special Conditions area is too much for me to give up.

I was looking foward to what gt4 was going to bring to rally...due to fact that I am a rally fan and love those group b cars...but...I was extremely dissapointed:guilty: . I dont do them willingly at all and i actually find them a burden. Gt2 did do a good job though, and i still rally on it to this day.

I finally figured out that aslong as you get ahead of your opponent, it's a cakewalk, aslong as you know your limits and the car's limits. The A.I seems to be decent in terms of speed in rally, but they're still crappy A.I. :D

The only tracks that give me trouble now are Charmonix and the other snow circuit.

I cant stand gt4 dirt and snow tracks, ivegot Vrally and love it but theres something wrong with gt4s. And it doesnt matter which car or what line i take around the tracks, even had trouble doing the SC easy parts heap faster car but once the AI gets ahead he leaves me behind.:(

I love the rally events i look forward to drifting around the corners. But if i accidentally touch the wall or my oppenent i get a 5 sec penelty that frustrates me.

You just really need to practice and it quite an enjoyable pastime. 👍

I HATED VRally 3, there was something about it that pushed my buttons.

But I love Colin McRae, Rallisport Challenge, and the WRC series of games, all excellent represenitives of the sport. WRC even covers the WHOLE season! :scared: from Monte Carlo to all of Scandinavia.

Back on topic: Remember, rallying isn't exactly easy. So you have to practice, ALOT! Then it becomes quite fun. :sly:

I liked to rally in gt3, but rallying in gt4 SUCKS, I hate that damn 5 sec. penalty for just giving the opponent a little tap trying to screw up his line for an easy pass, it just really pisses me off.

luftrofl
Isn't everything you do in GT4 done "willingly?"
Ultimately yes, but some things are done less willingly than others, ie do you do it for fun, or do you only do it for the prize and/or the percentage complete it gives you.

Aslong as you can control your addiction. :nervous: What I meant was that you do it in Practice mode just for the fun of it. There's something appealing about driving a 450HP Twincharged car that weighs less than a Miata on "roads" that you have next to no traction on at any given time, fans that are sometimes mere feet from your car. (even though you can't hit them, it's still quite a rush to see them that close to your car) swinging the car corner to corner with excellent pedal and steering (or in this case DS2 :D) control.

It might not be realistic, but it's damn fun IMO.

Yes, there's good cars to be won. Besides the aformentioned Group B monsters, there's some cool rally concepts and the Paris-Dakkar Mitsubishi Pajeros to be won.

I love rallying once in awhile. I usually re-do the Amalfi Rally Easy, with some cars I haven't driven before, and get to sold the Rally Raid RSC prize car afterwards. I think of it only as a bonus.

Rallying is ok and theres no need to complain about the 5 second penalty really, because all you have to do it slide the back of the car on the wall and that doesnt give you a penalty, only if you hit the wall with the front. The only time the 5 second penalty is anoying is when the other car hits YOU in the front so he should be losing 5 seconds not you.

I occasinaly free run rally, sometimes I rally my brother which is pointless because he dose'nt know what a racing line is and I always win :)

areyou talkin about the game or actually driving, because i do both.
The "GTP Forums » Gran Turismo » Gran Turismo 4" at the top of the forum means that they are talking about the game.

That damn 5 second penalty just ruins it for me... not that im hitting walls or trying to knock opponents off their line or anything, leave that for the n00bs... I like very close competition so i try to enter cars (in any race) that will have me working to stay with the competition, and when the opponent just starts to overtake you on the inside of a corner and runs just a little wide... he taps your front bumper and slows you down to 30 mph. I think that's bull so i usually put in the action replay before i put in GT4 and take that 5 second penalty off. Otherwise I like the rally more and more every time i run through the game and am currently (5th time through) trying to set up underpowered cars perfectly for the hard races.

I have the '01 Impreza Rally Car currently and that RS200 Rally Car usually gives me a damn good run around any course it enters.

I used to do a lot of rallying in GT3, but I don't do much in GT4 due to time restraints. I did almost all of the Special Conditions with the Dodge RAM just to get through to get on to other road racing, but I would like to go back and try all the myriad rally cars that were won and some I bought. I really got hung up on using the Dodge RAM that could kick the butt of all those costly rally vehicles. I think dirt drifting is a lot of fun and those Italian Street/Road courses are challenging, too. I think with the practice I got with the RAM and testing of settings, I should be able to do a good job with several of my top rally cars.

Yes, the 5 second penalty is absolutely worthless the way they implemented it. But with some tweaking, it can be a good way to discourage cheaters. :)

I would drive wilingly without the 5 sec penalty as said before.
I just 1pt all the races just for completion
With damage it would get interesting though. Like falling off Grand Canyon

Yes, and also flipping the car and watching a brief scene where the pilot and co-pilot, (with the help of a few fans) flip it back over. I always liked that about WRC, actual spectator involvement. :D

i love breakneck speeding on the streets of costa di amalfi and citta di aria - it's surreal. and i think the 5 sec penalty should be at least doubled ;p

*pulls up zipper of retardant suit*

ps: what i definitely don't like is aggressive AI side-ramming me and me getting the penalty.
