I feel like a cheater using the DS4! I finally got a g29 wheel and I did some testing today, I am about 2.5 seconds off my pace. Any tips from wheel users out there? My friends have told me to try and turn up the sensitivity, left foot brake, what tips do you guys have besides practice practice? Any help is appreciated!

Very impressive getting DR:S with a DS4!

To start, enjoy the wheel. Your pace will come back quickly and ultimately will probably be faster than with the DS4. It just takes some time for your hands and feet to acclimate. Might be worthwhile to go back and do some of the campaign mode to practice.

I definitely recommend left foot braking. I use a T300RS, so can't help with settings.

I got a G29 recently too and the best settings that i came up is 7 4 2, unfortunately the only thing that you can do is practice.

Definitely left foot break.

I made the move over from DS4 to G29 a couple of weeks ago, and only now feel like I'm back up to speed. Offline is your friend at this time; just drive, and play around with the settings until you find out what works for you.

Controller sensitivity in game doesn't seem to affect wheels. But yeah def left foot brake and steady throttle rather htan full or none.

I have wheel, but not playing a lot on it... in fact I just tested GT Sport with it (it is old Logitech DFGT), I play almost all the time with DS4, was close to get Dr.S Sr.S, but wanted to get those 15 clean races achievement, so now I'm close to Dr.A and Sr.S is already long time here... it is doable if you have a feeling for it :)

Cheers...

Put wheel rotation on 540 degrees. Most wheels are 1080 on default which is way too much.

You cant change the degrees of rotation on the G29

Just practice, when I first got a wheel just before GT5 came out it took me a few months to really get to grips with it. Be patient and play around with the 2 settings till the wheel feels right for you, even then you might need to tweak it a bit more. My settings are Force Feedback Max Torque at 3, and Force Feedback Sensitivity at 8.

I currently have ffb and torque set to 1 each, my mind is telling me not to stress the motors out because I don’t want the wheel crapping out early. What are the disadvantages of have those settings low?

I'll say it's an advantage first because it's much more easier to handle without any kind of resistance.

But if you want to "feel" your car reactions you'll need higher settings. Try to compare low and high settings in straight then brake or drive on to kerbs.

Your slower times can also come from your time reaction compare to ds4 or your fatigue.

I dont now the range of G29, but you can put FFB higher to 60-80%, torque lower 30%. Thats what I prefer at least. 1 and 1 should be to less.

About the pace, be sure, you will gain it back and will be even faster. I never heard of a player who was in the long term faster with the Pad than wheel. But it will take several days, maybe few weeks.

And yes, definetly left foot brake!

what tips do you guys have besides practice practice? Any help is appreciated!

My advice is : Re-run every Driving School mission and try t get as fast time as possible.
Also , my FFB settings for G29 are 2/2.

I've been a controller user my entire life and got a T300 2 months ago. I've also got to DR:S with the DS4 and was slower with the wheel for about 2 seconds a lap.

Fast forward here I am now as fast as I was with DS4, maybe a bit faster. The thing is, I still feel less safe driving with the wheel. When I mess up it's much harder to save it with a wheel.

Also I lacked consistence for a good while with the wheel but eventually my lap became more consistent than they were with DS4.

My advice is don't give up. You may feel like it's not going to get better but it will. It's much harder for someone like me and you to be as fast with the wheel because we are very fast already with the DS4. It's a whole new controlling system so just keep on trying.

Yeah and 1 more thing, don't go back to driving with DS4, you'll mess up your brain.

Have fun with the wheel :)

Yes left foot braking for sure like others said. Other then that you'll just need to practice. You need to learn to read the FFB and what it is telling you about the car. Like how it goes light when the tail is about to step out and that sort if stuff.

Settings i cant really tell you cause i have a T300 but i will tell you this. The G29 doesnt have allot of torque, so you dont want to put the torque setting to high or you will get FFB clipping. Clipping is when your wheel reaches max torque to soon and you loose fidelity in the higher ffb ranges. Idealy you want to reach max torque of your wheel only at the most stressfull moment like going over a curb or a fast corner. I suggest experimenting with the torque between 1-5 and putting FFB setting a little higher then that to get more info from the car. I think i am running 4-7 or something on my T300.

Smooth braking.

The dendency coming from a pad is to smash the brake pedal at first, especially if you're not used to left foot braking. Modulating the braking is probably the skill that will give you the extra time you couldn't find on the pad*.

*ofc there are people who do it on a pad but most don't.

^^^ this

Watch your replays and pay attention to your braking meter - work toward being smooth and consistent. Left foot braking is essential, you will want that right foot available on your gas pedal to apply small amounts of throttle while squeezing off the brakes to keep the car settled (depending on track/car) and most importantly to get back on throttle as quickly as possible through the apex.

It’s all about time on the wheel, no other way around it. Muscle memory will kick in and it will feel more and more natural. Also, know that FFB settings are very subjective and you should fine tune to what feels the best for you personally. Start with settings that some of the fast guys here use with their G29’s and tweak from there, you’ll have it down in no time!

Hope this helps!

Game uses soft lock per car, so no need to adjust rotation degree.

Whetever that lock is, it's too big imho. I need to turn the wheel full circle to go trough hairpin and smash my arms to go trough first turn Monza. If I set it to 540 degrees, it's much easier. Same goes for bus stop on Dragon Trail, on default it's hard to pull of without slowing down, while on 540 you can do it full throttle easily. The only problem is that you have to set rotation every race when it starts or it resets.

I don't know, but at 540 degrees it probably feels more like controlling a kart. It may be better for you to learn with however I haven't heard of many people using it. I can only recall a few turns in the game where you need to turn the wheel about 180 degrees. The chicanes aren't that hard once you learn how to take them, just a quick left-right or vice versa. Also, on ovals like Northern Isle, I sometimes keep my hands slightly right of normal on the wheel because you're in the corners so much.

Any tips for getting to DRS with a DS4? I’ve been stuck on DRB for months!

...you need to find what combination of track and car suits you. When it comes up, you practice that day to get best lap, and that's it... finish on podium viola... I hit today from low B to mid A with TTS on Dragon Trail rev...

Also, I really don't like that option, but enable CSA when playing on DS4, it will save you a lot of nerves...

Cheers...

What wheel are you using? Ive never had to turn full circle with any car on any track. Im using a G29.
